2  Armistice Day Poppies in Needlework: Completed Projects by Winecask32 on: January 30, 2011 07:26:20 PM
This project was a long time in the works!  I picked the kit up on clearance, only to discover that someone had stolen the pattern and half the thread out of it.  I tried to re-create the pattern based on the photo, but wasn't happy with the coloring - I suspect there's some shading in the flowers that didn't come through.  At one point I tried contacting the company about the pattern, but they weren't any help.  Several years passed...

When I finally started it last July, I decided to stitch part of a Wilfred Owen poem in the center, instead of the original alphabet.  And then I got side-tracked working on gift-projects and life in general, and just got it finished.

I couldn't decide what to do with it, so for the time being it's in an IKEA frame.

3  Nothing is impossible... in Needlework: Completed Projects by Winecask32 on: January 01, 2011 09:49:37 AM
A quick project for a coworker.  She was assigned to help our office move ten years of accumulated paper, equipment, and personalities... and remained in good humor and possibly sane through the entire experience.

I've started slacking off on charting my projects.  For this one, I drew all the lettering in the right positions, but charted the tent-top somewhere else entirely, with two or three variants on the flags (none of which I used).  And I picked out the colors in advance, but not where to use them.  It still turned out pretty well!

4  Here's to the ladies who lunch... in Needlework: Completed Projects by Winecask32 on: August 29, 2010 12:09:36 PM
I made these for an actress friend.  We're both musical theatre geeks, and her favorite characters tend to be ambitious, difficult women.  (And insane.)

I made her a napkin set featuring four of them.  Using flowers for Violet and Rose made sense, so I thought I'd make it a theme.

Rose (Mama Rose, Gypsy)
Violet (Violet Chandler, The Fix)
Narcissus (Norma Desmond, Sunset Blvd)
Zinnia (Zelda Fitzgerald)

The first and second are cross-stitch; the other two were more embroidery.  I used waste canvas for all four.  My only regrets are that I should have done Rose's lettering in white, and I wasn't able to work in Sweeney Todd's Mrs. Lovett.

5  Cybrid Baby Bib in Needlework: Completed Projects by Winecask32 on: July 31, 2010 05:36:46 PM
I made this last year for my friends' firstborn, who is destined for geekdom.

The picture is not the best - I forgot to take one before the baby shower, and got this by chance now that it's out and in  use.  (FWIW: it's a premade bib from Michael's, and the kid is a year old.)  The words are actually dark blue with the red highlights in the middle.

6  Moulin Rouge Sampler in Needlework: Completed Projects by Winecask32 on: February 13, 2010 12:54:25 PM
I charted this shortly after the film came out, bought supplies... and finally got around to stitching it this winter.

It's cross-stitched on 18-count Aida.  I used fancy thread for the reds - the slight variegation is nice, but I'm not sure it's nice enough to make up for not being color-fast.
