1  CRAFTING FOR GOOD AND NOT EVIL / Crafty Charitable/Social Causes / Adopt a Soldier on: February 12, 2009 05:40:58 AM
I don't know if this is the right place to put this, so if it isn't, please feel free to move it.

I just finished watching the TODAY show and they had a segment about a young boy who adopted a soldier and as a result is doing better in school for it. (Writing skills, etc.)

My son said to me, "Wow that's kinda cool!"  So...I started thinking and wondering if maybe our crafty people here wouldn't want to do this as sort of an ongoing craft along.  I know our men and women overseas would really appreciate this!

There are certain things you can and can not send them, all of the information about the adopt a soldier can be found here...

Let me know what y'all think!
2  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Cool shape... on: February 02, 2009 06:04:59 AM
Ok this may have been posted before, but I couldn't find any that were these containers specifically...So here goes.

Hubby and I drink a little too much coffee lol and we have alot of these left, but I can't just let them get tossed out.  I love the cool shape of the creamer containers, but I can't figure out what to do with them.  So any help from you crafty divas out there would be great!  Thanks in advance Smiley

3  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Hi :) on: November 17, 2008 05:32:13 AM
I'm new here.  I've been having a great time reading all the posts and posting a few myself Smiley

A little about myself...

I'm the mother of one, eleven year old boy.  Wife of 12 years, been together with my husband for 14 though.
I'm the mom of three cats, all of whom are psycho but I love them anyway hehe.  We live in Michigan and I absolutely wish we didn't, even though I've lived here all my life. (I really REALLY don't like snow.)  I will be starting school in the winter semester to get a General Business Associates from the local community college.

I love to read, my husband is always complaining about my books hehe.  Crafting is one of my passions, that I am just newly indulging in again after many years.  I didn't have time to when I worked, and now I have to restock my stash!  Drawing, painting and sewing are my crafts of choice, though I'm pretty darned good at kitchen crafts too.

I love chatting with new people, especially to bounce around new ideas for projects!

Brightest blessings!

4  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / First completed project: Decorated Journal and pen! on: November 16, 2008 02:48:54 PM
I wanted to make something that wasn't too expensive,  (since the paper isn't replaceable)yet elegant looking.  I used embossed felt and spray adhesive for the covers, cording for the sides of the "binding", and embroidery floss for the stitching, then added a small clasp to keep it all shut together.  I may add a little butterfly on the corner (this is for my sister and butterflies are her favorite.)  If I do I'll upload that picture too Smiley

The pen was made using the tutorial here on craftster.  I didn't have any double adhesive tape so I used spray adhesive for that as well, though I wouldn't recommend it, it was rather messy.  (I was trying to cut cost though and that is what I had on hand lol)

Sorry for the picture quality, I was hoping they would come out a little better, but I don't have very good lighting hehe.  Anyway, let me know what you think!
5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / I need some help from all of you teachers out there! on: November 16, 2008 10:56:46 AM
Ok, so I'm not sure if this is where I'm supposed to post this or not, but I am in the process of making presents for my sister AND my sister-in-law.  What I need to know is, what are some things that you find that you're always needing the most as a teacher?  What are some of the things that you just wish you had, or had more of.

I plan on making them both a personalized journal and decorated pen to go with, a tote to carry all of their teaching supplies in and perhaps some personalized stationary and post-it notes for notes home to parents.  But I'm at a loss as to what else to make for them.  Any help would be very much appreciated!
6  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Pizza Mac on: November 14, 2008 09:40:04 AM
This may sound a little gross, but it's actually very good and my son, who's the pickiest eater on earth LOVES it!

All it is, is Mac and cheese prepared like the box directions, pizza sauce (I only use about a half a cup to 3/4 a cup), pepperoni, (Italian sausage or ham work really well too!), canned tomatoes(drained), green peppers and mozerella cheese on top.

Really easy, fast dinner meal, I usually serve it with some garlic bread.
