1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Japanese Maid Cafe Costume on: July 04, 2010 05:45:08 AM
I'm performing with a maid cafe group at an anime convention this month, and decided to sew my own outfit instead of buying one.  This is only the second time I've made anything with a bodice, so I was really nervous about it XD

I made the ruffled underskirt, the black overdress, the apron, the ribbon choker, and the maid headdress.

And a bonus pic, from my photoshoot for making our maid "photocards":

I'm pretty happy with how it turned out, although the bodice fit came out a little wonky.  Having the apron tied help though, so it's definitely usable for my performance Smiley
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Trippy Bag (my first!) on: May 17, 2006 11:53:35 PM
So I got a sewing machine 2 months ago and finally got around to actually making something with it!

It's a messenger bag made from really trippy flower fabric Smiley The strap is made from black seatbelt material.

And here's the inside with pockets.  The contrast stitching I did by hand.

3  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Dresser with cherry blossom on: April 05, 2006 06:55:18 PM
Awhile ago I decided to paint my dresser drawers with a mural of a cherry tree branch.  The character in the bottom right is Love.

It makes me very happy, and it's the first large mural I've painted in awhile.

6  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / beret-ish thing from improvised pattern on: August 01, 2005 07:04:46 PM
well, i had actually intended to knit a hat... but somehow i screwed up and got a big nearly-flat circular thing... so i decided to fold the edges in and run elastic through and got something that's actually like a hat!

here it is, on my bed

and on teddymouse, my wonderful model

my sister got home from camp, saw it, and immediately started wearing it everywhere  Grin

7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / embellished head kerchiefs (lots of pics) on: August 01, 2005 06:52:16 PM
these are nowhere nearly as complicated as all the other projects on this board, but i like them a lot.

i found a bunch of handkerchiefs in the bottom of my sock drawer and on sale at target and decided they would make very pretty head kerchiefs with some embellishment:

my personal favorite

this one is purple in real life, but my camera doesn't seem to think so...

thanks for looking! what  do you think?
8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / cardboard jewelry box (tutorial added!) on: August 01, 2005 06:37:35 PM
i'm not exactly sure what category this should go under, but since it's made from paper products i figured it could go here.

i really needed a jewelry box, and i was really bored, and i had way too many empty cardboard boxes sitting around, so i decided to make my own jewelry box!

i took some tissue boxes and random other boxes, glued/taped them together, and then covered them in flower fairy pictures (and a few random other fantasy pictures) so it'd be pretty.

end product:

Edit:  Okay, I made a tutorial! It's rather long, so I turned it into a pdf file.  You can get it at http://web.mit.edu/chukl/www/Crafts/JewelBoxTut.pdf

I guess if you don't have an adobe reader, let me know and I'll turn it into a different file format for you. And of course, if you don't understand something, just ask!  Smiley Enjoy!
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / earring and necklace sets on: July 01, 2005 06:21:48 PM
made these awhile ago and finally got around to posting them:

I didn't have any chain but I wanted to make necklaces, so I decided I'd make my own chain... interesting for the first minute or so... especially the pastel one...

But anyways, what do you think? Comments? Suggestions? How does the chain look to you?
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Earrings... lots of pictures! (my first post :D) on: June 19, 2005 08:37:25 AM
Been lurking awhile and finally decided I had the guts to post something  Tongue

Here are some earrings I made:

The last pair I actually made from part of a broken necklace  Cheesy
