1  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Discussion and Questions / Please help-need to find a way to put letters on a tote bag... on: July 30, 2009 06:43:14 AM
I might need to make a few of these so keep that in mind. I am making red tote bags and need to put a logo with 2 four letter words on them. The words would be white and black. I thought about iron-on letters but I don't think they would hold up. Then I thought about those sew on letters from the craft store but I am not sure it's cost effective.
These bags will be for a fundraiser so I am trying to not spend too much to make them so that all the profit can go to the charity.

Any other ideas?
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A gift for my sister... on: July 21, 2009 01:57:17 PM
This originally started out as a purse for me but I am now giving it to my sister. She lives in Pittsburgh so this is the perfect color combo for any Steel City Sports fan!!

This was listed as the "1 hour bag" but it took me longer, like 3 hours. I made a few errors and I added the flap closure, it has a magnet there. I also had to draw out my own pattern as the tute only showed hers, not a printable one. In the end I like this design and will make another one for me. Oh yeah, it has batting or wadding inside to give it shape. I still have to tack down the straps a bit more on the inside. There are fabric covered buttons on the sides where the straps are.

Oh yeah, C & C welcomed!!!
3  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / I made a doll quilt! on: July 18, 2009 07:30:07 AM
I finally attempted to make a quilt and I am pleased with the results. Next time I want to try a Chinese coin pattern, I think that is what it's called.

This was the doll quilt from Sew Mama Sew and a quilt-a-long that was posted awhile back. If anyone needs a link, I'll post that.

C & C welcome.

4  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Question for admins about posts that are really advertising on: July 10, 2009 08:09:54 AM
I have noticed, particularly in the purses forum that many people are posting their completed bags but also have links to their etsy shop and/or directly to a blog selling the purse or item they posted about. I have reported some to the moderator of that board but nothing is being done.

I don't understand. I read the rules about what is advertising and what isn't and I am trying to follow that. I am an etsy seller but haven't posted my link in my sig line because I don't want to look like I am advertising when I post a completed bag, especially if it's my own design. So what gives here?

Not one moderator has responded to my posts or reported messages.
5  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / What to make with this fabric--post yours here! on: June 24, 2009 08:35:23 AM
I found a wonderful satin-y type of fabric, it's about 1/2 a yard or more, at a sidewalk sale. It's red with gold flowers. I am trying to find a fitting bag for such a gorgeous material. Suggestions with tutes are helpful! Thanks.
6  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Purses from skirts... on: April 30, 2009 04:56:19 PM
I saw this idea on Whipup.net and thought I could try it out. I used little girls' mini-skirts and an old vintage sheet. The hardest part was sewing over the button areas on both of these. But they were fun.

7  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / A few of my bags....messengers and totes (IMG heavy) on: April 30, 2009 04:46:22 PM
Trying to post some pictures of my bags. I have been sewing since Oct. 2008 and these are some of what I have made and sold.
This one was for a guy, my first "man" bag! lol...

This one was for a classmate of my son's. She picked her fabrics and I must say I loved the bright colors. I made the pattern for these two bags.

I love the fabric on this one. It's a gift.

This is a variation of two patterns that I put together to make something I liked.

Two more bags. The one on the right is a small Jordy and is now my granddaughter's purse. She is only 2!
The one of the left is a fun tote I made for a friend.
8  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Buxton bag look a like tutorial? Looking for this... on: April 19, 2009 05:21:20 PM
Does anyone have a pattern or tute for a look a like of the Buxton bag that is advertised on tv and print? It's basically a hipster or messenger style bag that crosses the body and has a pocket on the strap. I am an intermediate sewer so I think I can handle this kind of project.

9  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Help needed!!! How do I measure for an adjustable strap? on: March 23, 2009 07:58:04 AM
I am making a messenger style laptop size bag for someone who is larger than average. I measured from one shoulder across the mid-section to about where the end of the bag would come out over the hip area and got 66 inches total, back to front. I want to give some slack in the strap so the bag can be removed easily. Tell me how long to make this strap!!!

Thanks so much. I love this place. I am learning so much about sewing from here.
10  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Looking for purse hardware? on: March 20, 2009 12:26:04 PM
I was having difficulty finding the correct hardware, etc. for making purses and messenger bags. Part of the trouble was not knowing the real terms to search for. So I found a place online that sells all sorts of parts like tri-glides and cord-stops, and more. I am not sure if I am allowed to post the link so remove if this is against the rules.

I hope this helps someone else.
