1  101 Dalmatians dress in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by gimmemoresalad on: February 09, 2009 01:35:02 PM
My very first ever piece of clothing that I made without a pattern!  I'm so proud of it!  Excuse the horrible picture of my face, and the "grilled cheese" shirt I've got on under, lol.

I made it out of a really cool twin-size sheet I found at Goodwill.

I'm planning on using the newspaper pattern I made to make another, as soon as I can find another sheet of comparable awesomeness  Grin  I've found a couple things I'd like to tweak for the next go-round that would just be too much work to fix on this one (I should have gathered the bust pieces more where they meet the waist piece, but I would basically have to take the whole thing apart to change it now).  Because of this, I think it might fit a friend of mine better than it fits me, so after I've got a cool new one for myself, I may give her this one so she can stop wishing it was hers  Tongue

Aww, I'm kinda sad my Chi pass-down doesn't really show up in the picture... it's pretty cool lookin'.  It's been passed from each 3rd Floor Cox Hall RA to the next since 2003... (Chi: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Longwood_University#CHI )  It looks basically black in the pic, but it's actually royal blue.  I loves it  Cheesy   It hasn't escaped my excitement over my sewing machine either -- I hemmed it last week because it was getting really frayed and ratty around the edges... guess that's what happens when you just chop a piece of fabric into a square and turn it into an institutional heirloom, lol.

aww I love you guys!

craftster has helped me soooo much with inspiration and crafting-im glad i can give a little back.

When i'm on here my little 5-yr old sis comes in and says "you're on that site again?!"
(she cant appreciate a website w/out games lol) Roll Eyes

also for the loop-string thing I suggest something stretchy and to sew them in well after all. Tying didnt work well for me after all. Maybe i should go in and change that  Lips sealed

What about it didn't go well, specifically?  The pair I made is for my best friend for xmas, and she lives 500 miles away (Cry) so I can't run and fix 'em real quick for her if they need mending... I used satin rattail for the loops, pulled the knot REAL tight, and then kinda handsewed the knot together so it couldn't budge, because rattail HATES to stay knotted.  If I should replace it, I need to do it now or I won't get another chance until... summer?  Maybe?

She goes to Cornell (upstate NY), so it's like the frozen tundra up there 8 mos out of the year (well, compared to Farmville, VA, where two flurries and a 3-hr school delay is all we can hope to expect out of a "winter").
Her present is a squid hat (using goosezilla's tut) with matching glittens (using this tut, with modifications) Grin

Ok, here's how I did the thumbs... it was pretty easy  Wink

And they look like this right side out (palm up so you can see the thumb past the finger-flap):

I was going to take a pic of them on to demonstrate how cute they ended up, but my cell is the only way I can take digital pics right now, and it rang  Tongue  <3 this tute.

5  Re: Let's see your sewing machine!! in Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions by gimmemoresalad on: December 13, 2008 03:39:38 PM
I finally have a picture of my machine so I can share  Grin

It's an old Singer clone, dunno what year.  I'm trying to figure it out, but it seems like mostly Singers are traceable and clones aren't.  Not really a surprise but disappointing nonetheless.  That's okay, though, cuz I <3 this thing!  It used to belong to my Mema (Dad's mom), but she gave it to my mom at some point... before I was born.

Yeah, you guys are right.  I could have sworn it had the word Singer actually on it, but I never really actually looked hard enough to realize it didn't.  I've got pics now  Grin

Here's the dead giveaway:

Found number:
JA17 92346

Please excuse the bad cell phone pics, my digital camera recently decided that it will only take one picture per battery change.

7  Comfort food...[Irish Soda Bread] in Recipes and Cooking Tips by gimmemoresalad on: December 06, 2008 08:38:28 PM
Yummmmmmm Irish Soda Bread!

My Mommy always makes tons of this stuff on St. Patrick's Day (along with my other favorite foods: corned beef and cabbage), and when I'm away at college, I make it every time I happen to have all the ingredients in one place... which really means, I make it whenever I buy milk for something else and have at least a cup left over.

Exams are this coming week, so I really needed this right about now  Wink  It came out of the oven about half an hour ago, and between my fiancee and myself, it's already half gone.

Here's the recipe!
