1  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Squid-Girl! Costume on: August 24, 2011 06:24:18 AM

It's zoo day in the nursery today, (and sealife is a zoo, too, right?), so I cobbled this squid costume together. There's no pattern, I've made it up on the go: I made a tutu by knotting strips of varying lengths of dress netting on an elastic. Then I cut a top out of purple felt, using one of my daughter's t-shirts, adding 10 tentacles, 2 of them longer with paddles on the end. The hat is a simple cone shape with a frill, and a hole for the face cut in.

It's all hand stitched because I was too lazy to dig out the sewing machine and took me less than a couple hours.

The daughter lurvvves it.
2  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Dyeing wool? on: October 10, 2009 11:15:40 AM
I've got a gorgeous cardi which my bloke's granny knit for me. It's off-white and I stupidly stained it with oil from a bicycle chain. Really can't get the stain out, and would prefer it in a darker colour anyway, but have no idea how to go about it as all the clothes-dye available at my chemist says it's only for synthetics.

Can you help?
3  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Baby Outfit. First Time- be gentle please on: September 05, 2009 11:22:34 AM

After many hours and many curses, I finally managed to finish this little dress with matching bloomers. It looks better on the photos than in real life, as the photos don't quite convey how much more practice I need to get my seams straight. Also, the skull already started coming off in the first wash, I guess I need to sew it on and not just rely on the iron.

I used a simplicity pattern, but completely forgot which one.

C&C welcome.
