2  Totoro Embroidery in Needlework: Completed Projects by strawberrycherry on: September 13, 2009 04:28:10 PM
I made this Totoro for a friend of mine who had a birthday last month. She loves all things Studio Ghibli, especially Totoro.

He looks a little wierd, but cute overall so I like it.  Cheesy The hoop is only about 4 inches in diameter so its pretty tiny.

Here's a closeup:

I hope you all like it. Please let me know what you think!  Cheesy

3  embroidered backpack for a friend's 4th birthday party! in Needlework: Completed Projects by strawberrycherry on: June 09, 2009 02:32:25 PM
my friend, oliver, turned 4 last week and he love's police cars and racecars. i've had the denim drawstring backpack since i was in highschool. i used it as a purse forever. i was willing to give it up for this project. oliver loved it and i threw some cans of playdough in as well!

i originally planned to put a lot more detail into the cars (doors, windows, and a star on the police car), but i procrastinated starting the project and i didn't want to go overboard on time with it since it will likely not last as long as it would if it were for an adult.  Cheesy that's okay though. he's an awesome kid, and i'm sure he'll get plenty of use out of it!

Thanks for looking!!

4  Amigurumi Bunny Army (image super-heavy) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by strawberrycherry on: May 10, 2009 07:02:43 PM
I don't post much in the crochet thread because I'm always on Ravelry. I do post a lot in the needlework and fiber arts categories though. I just wanted to share all these bunnies I've been making here, though, just because they're so darn cute.  Cheesy

I've made all of these in the last few months as gifts, to sell, and for my shelves.

Thanks for looking!

(this one is my favorite so far because i spent so much time on her dress)

10  self-striping handspun yarn dyed with kool aid! (lots of pictures) in Dyeing: Completed Projects by strawberrycherry on: March 16, 2009 05:34:38 PM

This is, by far, my most involved spinning and dyeing venture so far. I photographed the entire process, so if anyone was wondering what it was like, here ya go.

I started by winding the undyed spun yarn around the back of my couch. That was the only think I could think of to use to make a large enough skein. I tied it off in four sections to mark where I would use different colors of dye. I was going for four really long sections.

After soaking the undyed yarn and rinsing it well, I dyed the orange section.

This photo shows it after it had sucked up most of the dye out of the water.

At this point, I switched to my digital camera, instead of my phone because I wasn't getting very good photos.
Next, I dyed the red part. (Strawberry)

Then the blue part. (Berry Blue) I really liked the spot where the orange and blue blended. It made an army green color!

Last, I dyed the "black cherry" part.

In the colander after rinsing:

Stretching and drying:

Me being really excited about this yarn:

Yay!!!! A few more photos of the finished product:

What I really like about self-striping yarns like these is that you never know how it will turn out when its knitted up. I'm excited to see what happens with this yarn.
