I did bias binding for the first time a week ago, and I found the corsetmakers community on livejournal invaluable ( http://community.livejournal.com/corsetmakers - very knowledgeable and helpful ladies)

There should be no stitching visible from the front really, if you do it right. The trick is to have the back side just slightly wider/longer than the front and to stitch in the ditch. (or hand stitch from the back if you are patient, which I am not. I made a little diagram with photos from a test chunk from my corset project. I hope this helps for your future bias binding.
