1  Re: The Gallery of the Secret Santa Wishlist and Charity Swap in The Swap Gallery by psyche on: December 21, 2017 04:11:44 PM
I got two packages! And I ripped into them 2 nights ago, set them out nicely for photos... and promptly forgot which pieces came from which package. Oh no!

In one package came this lovely ruby red hat (which, yes, is big enough to fit over my big hair bun! I can usually only wear headbands in store-bought hats, so it will be good to have a proper hat too).

In the other package came this nice big market bag - from my Craft Swap Wishlist board on my Pinterest. Looking forward to going to my farmer's market with this. It really is an ideal size for fruit & veg

And in some combination of the two packages (sorry Secret Santas...  Embarrassed), came this smaller items. We've got some ornaments, festive Kleenex, and vintage newspaper (and sure, we'll call 1972 vintage - the paper is yellowed so it works!  Wink). The paper is the only one I know who it came from, as I left the sticky note attached - thanks AIMR.

So thank you to both of my Santas! The packages were both great, and useful too.

I finally checked my mailbox on the weekend and two marvelous packages were waiting for me!

First, from the ever-so-industrious Bubbles (who really does seem to be just one very busy person, as I see some similarly crafted items in other packages).. Some nicely pieced festive fabric notecards

And some Super Mario mushrooms for the tree. The husband and I are both fans, and these are lovely (and festive with the red & green too).

Interestingly, "Bubbles" turns out to be a very close neighbour to me!   Grin

Next from another mysterious Santa, what's in the big leafy bag?

It's... a learn-to-crochet kit!

And my Santa noticed I had taken it off my list, but don't worry. It's still something I wanted (and something I've wanted to learn forever), I just had doubts about what it actually could be as a craft swap item. I thought to myself "What are they going to send me, just yarn?" But my Santa didn't have that problem and I got a nice big project bag, The Happy Hooker by Debbie Stoller (excellent - I've got Stitch N Bitch), hooks, stitch markers (had to look that up in the book), and - yes, yarn too.

Thank you to both of my Santas!

Yay! deadbathducky's package made it to me from Australia, and it was such a Halloween delight!

First we've got a little Halloween spider in its web - this will definitely make it into my new batch of annual Halloween decor (the spider is crochet [or knit?], which you can't entirely tell from my dark photo:

Next, a couple pieces of jewellery! A very nice scary Halloween wire-wrapped tree, like one I had on my wishlist, and a creatures of the sea bracelet. All in a seemingly handmade (?) box, with a stamped penny from the Melbourne Zoo! Now, that's a cool little extra because I'm pretty sure I've never mentioned I collect these, but I do!

And finally... the tricks AND treats. Some candy (including sugar free too, yay), a picture that changes from lady in red to... Grim Reaper!, some spooky felt stickers, and a gummy heart, all in a little trick or treat bag.

Thanks deadbathducky, it's been great swapping with you!

6  Re: Unburthday Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by psyche on: September 15, 2016 07:25:32 PM
Here's my fab unbirthday present from our lovely organizer, SevsOnlyGirl!

A mysterious box? What could it be?

Oh my goodness, it's my own personal library! I'm a huge book lover, and have a TON of books, and already lend regularly to folks under the cheesy name Jessica Library (that's my first name, FYI. Ha). And now I have the pockets for inside the books, date stamp, stamp pad, and card catalogues. How neat! She probably saw all the many library themed things all over my Pinterest. Grin

It also came with a pack of pens to write it up, a template to make more pockets, then a huge stack of more book pockets and library check-out cards.

We'd also decided to do " a book and a bookmark" as an extra with our item, and she doubled it!

Carnival of Souls by Melissa Marr (good because I've enjoyed stuff by the author but never heard of this one), and Witches of East End which I'm particularly excited about - I watched the first episode or so of the show but I feel they often fail at shows about the more magical sides of life - I liked the story but not so much execution, so I'm pumped to see it's a book! (I didn't realize). Plus, two cute bookmarks!

8  Chalkboard Frames - Help? in Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions by psyche on: August 14, 2016 02:21:18 PM
Hello all! I ended up with some glorious, ornate vintage frames that I plan to turn into chalkboard-style signs. These suckers are also huge! Almost 5 feet long and 3 feet wide, or so.

They're going to be wedding decor first and foremost though I'm still not 100% sure what I will use them all for - seating chart, bar/beer list, menu, welcome, schedule... but I have plans on how they'll look.

I plan to paint them gold (or at least the two that had been painted before - I'll probably leave the original in the middle), and then use this great tutorial to make the signs:  http://imgur.com/a/s6sCJ, however, I hit a snag. These are empty frames, so I have nothing to paint with chalkboard paint.

Any ideas of what I could use to fill the space, that won't break the bank (keeping in mind these frames are huge)? Plywood? Cardboard somehow?

9  Re: The Crafty Wedding Craftalong! in Weddings and Bridal Showers by psyche on: August 14, 2016 02:12:46 PM
I know this thread is pretty quiet, but I'll post anyway. My wedding-to-be is on October 21, 2017.  It's going to be an Oktoberfest and craft beer themed wedding! We both are keen craft beer drinkers (and craft beer bloggers), we love themed parties, and I'm of German background, so it works for us. Plus, the original Oktoberfest was a party put on for a royal wedding. We hope our guests will have a blast.

We've already got a venue, a local German club, with food to be made by the Ladies Auxiliary, and a band, which is a wedding cover band who also does Oktoberfest hits, and will play in lederhosen.

The venue at a Christmas bazaar:

The DIY List:
- colourful fabric or paper bunting for hanging (if the Germania Club doesn't already have some nice ones - we're going to their Oktoberfest this year to scope it out!)
- "Wilkommen" sign - cut-out paper letters
- chalkboard signs in frames - a Bar one, a seating chart one, and... another one? (I have 3 frames)
- table numbers (written out numbers in German, on... something)
- brown beer bottle, growler, and flower centrepieces
- bouquets & boutonnieres (weekend of)

- pick colours! Something like sage green, maroon, gold,... but where will my hoped-for purple jewellery fit in?
- figure out how to incorporate steins
- figure out whether to make a guestbook of some sort
- plan invitation and save-the-date (if using?) layout for my graphic designer sister to create awesome paper goods

Here's my delightful package of cards from ChameleonHound!

For my "fish joke" theme...

(I know it!! Do you? Wink)

And for my "Y" - it's yarn!! Such a thick and yarny card.

And all the letters of my alphabet are now complete! (Now just for a single alphabet card to finish the pages..)

Thanks ChameleonHound, this was a fun package to open!
