11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Tank Top Pattern? on: April 21, 2006 01:10:40 PM
Does anybody know of a pattern similar to the top that Celine wore in Before Sunset?  I've looked around for one that's similar, but I'm not finding one.

Let me see if I can find a picture...

There are some, but it doesn't show that it's partially open in the back...
12  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Ribbing in the Round Question on: April 09, 2006 08:43:56 AM
Hey, all, I have a question.

I've noticed that when I knit ribbing in the round, the first knit stitch after the cluster of purl stitches is split, or very very stretched out.  It doesn't seem to happen when I'm working a section back and forth, just when I knit in the round.  Is there something off with my tension?  Right now, I've seemed to remedy the problem by twisting the first knit stitch in the ribbing, but I was wondering if there was something very obvious I was doing wrong.
13  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Cotton Ragg Yarn Cone on: February 22, 2006 07:20:51 AM
I found this on Herrschners and I was wondering if anyone had worked with it.  It's so hard to figure out yarn online... I would much rather go to the store and feel it.  Heh.

Here it is, for reference:
14  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Schoeller & Stahl Tradition Yarn on: February 22, 2006 07:19:09 AM
Has anyone used this yarn?  The price is more than reasonable, but I was wondering if it was worth investing in several skeins for a sweater.

15  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Woven Knit Stitches? on: November 22, 2005 09:51:02 AM
So I have a sweater, and I'm trying to figure out what stitch it is.  It generally looks like stockinette, but occasionally, there is a stitch that appears to be set inside the stitch in the row above it.  (If that makes sense.)  From the back, it almost looks like there are diagonal pieces woven in throughout.  Since it was purchased (and not hand-made) it is possible that it was machine knit.

When I have access to a digital camera, I'll post pictures.  But I just wanted to see if anyone had any guesses or ideas...
16  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Altering Bob on: November 17, 2005 11:19:19 AM
So, I want to knit Knitty's Bob, but alter it slightly.  I want to have the entire sweater ribbed (rather than just the top section) and I want to make it long sleeved.

Two questions, then:

1.) This should be fairly uncomplicated, no?  Anything I should be exceptionally cautious about?

2.) Does anybody have any suggestions for yarn substitutions?  The pattern calls for Rowan's All Seasons Cotton, but it's somewhat pricey (especially since I would need about eight skeins).
17  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Help me find a stitch! on: November 14, 2005 07:25:46 AM
I'm looking for a reversible woven stitch.  Bonus points to one that also makes interesting use of variegated yarn.

Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas?

...and it is red!!

(Sorry about the terrible image quality.  The only photographing device I have -- that is not a polaroid -- is a webcam.)
19  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Yarn suggestions for a double-ribbed sweater? on: October 05, 2005 07:24:28 AM
Hi all,

I'm drafting the plans for my second sweater, and I'm wondering if anybody can help me select the best sort of yarn.  (I'm not yet good at figuring out which materials have the best drape and are most suited for my project.)

Essentially, the plan is to create an oversized(ish) sweater that uses a 2x2 or a 2x1 rib.  Since ribbed patterns have a tendency to stretch, I'm guessing that my material be of the sort that doesn't loosen up too much after it's knitted (otherwise, I'll end up with an exceptionally large sweater!).

Any ideas? Suggestions?  Does anyone know of a good resource for general yarn selection?

20  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Raglan Sweater with a Twist on: July 24, 2005 01:25:28 PM
So I'm trying to knit a raglan sweater -- only I want mine to be the sort with the row of buttons along the raglan edge.  (Is there a specific name for this sort of design?)  I've attempted the front panel at least twice, but I can't figure out an easy or practical way to make this idea functional.

Has anyone come across any patterns for a sweater like this?  I think I'm approaching it the wrong way, and I think I just need a little nudging in the right direction.
