11  Re: One for Me, One for You the 3rd Discussion & Gallery in The Swap Gallery by justaddcats on: September 18, 2010 01:05:23 PM
Got my package from sarahj2001 on Wednesday or Thursday, but it's been a pretty ridiculous week and it's taken me this long to get a photo. And wow!

Exactly the thread catcher I wanted!

And the fabric is PERFECT! I mean literally, I sent a picture of this to my partner as an idea of something I like and she found the very same stuff! I will use the leftovers for something good too, thanks!

An "action" shot next to my sewing maching, that shows off the yummy handmade soap she sent as well- wow!

Thanks, sarahj2001! This was so thoughtful! I promise your package will be on its way soon!

I've been loving this gallery! I can tell everyone else had as much fun crafting for this swap as I did! So so sooooo many things I would've loved to receive... until I did receive and I realized I was pretty lucky! My partner musiclady hooked my up with all these goodies (let's hope I've got the categories right!)

Lumpy- The beautiful green and pink needleroll which will indeed be lumpy once I fill it with needles!
Long- The pretty turquoise covered tape measure... long indeed!
Local- Some ridiculously yummy smelling coffee.  Like, I want to eat it out of the bag with a spoon... that's how good it smells.
<2"- The funky owl and scrabble pendants- what fun!!
All that and some fun greenish tealish yarn!

Better detail shot of the pendants:

L- A Lovely Lace headband. The color is fantastic!!

Sender's Choice- A fab project bag AND extra of the yarn she knit it with! Woo hoo!

Since I've been drooling over the gorgeous handspun everyone else has gotten, you wouldn't believe how happy I was to see: Golden

I think that's it.  Wow, right?!?! Lucky me! I can't wait for musiclady to receive too!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!

Here it is! My fantastic package from blushingbluegrass!

A gorgeous, vintage jewewlry box with the skillfully stencilled "her beads hang straight" from Thoroughly Modern Millie!

Spacious inside of the box... this is so awesome, seriously where did you find this?

From His Girl Friday we've got the hilarious "Peter B. Hartwell B for Brains" pendant

Inspired by Millie's fantastic hats, a fun black and white headband. It fits perfectly (which is saying something with my big head) but I will spare you all the scary just-woken-up action shot Smiley

And just in case anyone underestimates my need for the jewelry box, this is currently the top of my dresser

No, I won't be putting the Advil or the Q-Tips in the jewelry box.

blushingbluegrass, this package rocks! You've got so many skills! Thanks for everything--I love it! And thanks for organizing too Smiley

I just received from Hollistercobabe!

There are two rad paintings of Dracula & Frankenstein. I LOVE the way they are done in profile with the black/white/color.

There are also a couple of neat resin movie poster pendants(?) that you can kindof see at the bottom- I guess she wasn't happy with the way they turned out because she said she'd replace them.

Thanks, Hollistercobabe!

15  birthday bracelet- feedback please! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by justaddcats on: August 07, 2009 11:02:31 AM
I don't make much jewelry and what I do make is usually goofy (Alice the Dinosaur necklace) but I wanted to make a quick gift for a friend's birthday and this is what I came up with....

I know she likes pearls, and that her taste is jewelry is generally more "traditional" than mine, but does this work?

Any comments, constructive criticism especially, will be appreciated!!
(And I'm sorry, I know even less about photographing jewelry than I do making it...)

16  Alice necklace in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by justaddcats on: June 03, 2009 05:18:28 PM
I don't make much jewelry, but when I saw this stone dinosaur, while bead-shopping for a friend, I KNEW exactly what she needed to be.  I ran right over to these orange and yellow-orange cat's eye glass beads, and ta-daa!

Not nearly as impressive as the classy stuff I see on these boards, but she really makes me smile Smiley Her name is from the ridiculous amount of time I got sucked into the "Land of the Lost" marathon a couple weeks ago, and eventhough she might technically look more like "Dopey," she's an Alice  Grin

WOW! am I really lucky enough to be the first to post?

Well, the goods I received from HandsyMalone are definitely an awesome way to start off the gallery!

First an adorable snap-top purse made of vintage fabric!

I've been thinking I should make myself a purse of this type (there's another name for the closure I think?) but Handsy's got me covered!  It's lined in my favorite green with a cute little inner-snappy-thing too!!

Then, some fun fun fun pinup coaster gals, from Vargas and Elvgren:

I tried for close-ups of all the ladies, but my flash wasn't cooperating.  HandsyMalone, feel free to post detail shots if you've got 'em.

Great work, I love it all! Thanks!

more beautiful stuff being posted by everyone-- most recently, that purple bag is great!! I'd love to know more about how those stitches link & intertwine?? Cool effect!

However, I can't be jealous anymore, because I have received my own goodies from sixblueirises and now it's my turn to show off!  Grin

First, the bright & cheerful apron:

The contrast of the pink & green really makes me smile, and the details (like the scalloped edge with contrast stitching!) are so well-executed! (And, no sixblueirises, I most certainly don't mind another apron--especially because I still haven't finished the one I was making for myself yet!)

With the incredibly clever strawberry pocket--all of those seeds are really beads!!

All of that joy came folded up inside this gorgeous owl box!

The fabric choice is an amazing background for the owl, an antiqued-looking gold with a hint of a shimmer.  Unfortunately that shimmer made made me curse at my camera's flash for a bit and prevented me from getting superclose detail shots, but this one is a little better:

Let me tell you all, you WANT to see the details! sixblueirises has done the most perfect and precise stitching I think I've ever seen!  Feel free to post more pics if you have them, sixblueirises.  Thanks again for everything!

19  It's all about... teamwork in Needlework: Completed Projects by justaddcats on: February 16, 2009 04:02:52 PM
This legitimately started as a comment about spelling and, well... took on a life of its own as a running joke.  I made this pillow for my friend and her husband.  When they showed it off to their friends, they got laughs.  When they told their friends I made it, I got looks.  Go figure.

20  silly fruit in Needlework: Completed Projects by justaddcats on: February 16, 2009 03:55:04 PM
I made my mom resuable grocery bags for Christmas, and while I loved the vintage fruit print, I thought it needed to be a little bit more fun. So I outlined a couple of the fruits and let their true personalities shine through.

Silly, but they made me smile.
