Our Gallery: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=133783.0

Swap name: Felt Mascot or Little Stuffie Swap
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: NovaStarlet
Backup Organizer: Stifflersmom
Sign-up date range: Nov 1st - Nov 7th
Date to send items by: On or before Nov 22nd

Keep in mind that Nov 23 is Thanksgiving, which for those of you outside of the US, means that all the mail traffic is going to sloooooooow doooooooown here. So it would probably be better to mail sooner than later.

Limited to a certain number of people? No

Restricted to people who all live in the same country? No

All ages allowed? Or 18+? All ages

Details of swap:

Participants will be sending:

-   One 6 inch or smaller felt mascot or little stuffie (medium)
-   Introduction card with the creatures name and some stats
-   Little bonus item

If you want to make a larger item you can discuss it with your partner, as always. Introduction cards are just for fun and will give the creatures name and some stats. For instance: birthplace, likes/dislikes, personality, super power, etc

The Bonus item is more of a wild card. It could be a random magnet or a couple of stickers. Or it could be something that you craft for your stuffie/mascot as a prop. Its up to you - just something fun and dirt cheap.

Details of swap:
It's postcard swapping time! The Easy Postcard Swap is a STOREBOUGHT postcard swap...and as the name implies, this means it is easy.  If you love postcards and finding out about other places, cultures and people then this is the swap for you.

Participants will be divided into groups of six. This means that you will be sending FIVE postcards in total, to five different people, and receiving five postcards back from those same five people.

Postcards need to be written on and sent through the mail without an envelope. I know some people collect cards in mint condition (ie. no writing and sent in an envelope) but part of this swap is to learn a little about another country, culture, state and Craftster member!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:

QUESTIONNAIRE TO ANSWER:
Name of swap: Easy Postcard Swap!
Craftster username:
Email address:
Your real name:
Mailing address: (As it should appear on a shipping label)

Would you be willing to ship to an address outside of your own country? (The answer to this question must be YES)

What kind of postcards are you able to send? (ie. Your country, landscape, animals, vintage cards, art cards etc):

What kind of postcards would you like to receive? (ie. Senders country, city views, native animals, design cards):

Have you read all this info and agree to be a lovely swapper so NovaStarlet doesn't have a nervous breakdown in her first time organizing?

IF YOU WANT TO PARTICIPATE, REMEMBER TO SEND YOUR INFO TO ORGANIZER (NovaStarlet) VIA PRIVATE MESSAGE AND NOT TO REPLY WITH IT HERE.

23  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Easy Postcard Swap -- Round 2 on: October 24, 2006 09:52:00 AM
Interested?  Cheesy

It would work just like round 1, because I think that MissMeshell did such a great job. Thank you, lady.

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=123949.0

You would be sending 5 store bought cards and receiving 5 store bought cards.

We just need to determine sign-up and send out times.

What does everyone's schedule look like??
24  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Kimono print purse - My first purse on: October 02, 2006 05:31:24 PM
Okay, technically, this is my second purse attempt. The first one was made for a swap partner though. Then I tried the same pattern for myself and came up with this. I think that the fabric really makes it. The lining is dark red...

25  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Felt Mascot or Little Stuffie Swap on: September 27, 2006 11:22:01 AM
For those that stumbled onto this thread after the fact, this swap did happen. You can find it here:

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=130547

Everyone seems to love little stuffies and Japanese mascots. They are fairly simple to make, so how about a swap? Heres what you would send:

-   One 6 inch or smaller felt mascot or little stuffie
-   Introduction card with the creatures name and some stats
-   Little bonus item

If you want to make a larger item, you can discuss it with your partner as always. Introduction cards are just for fun. Mojizu.com has some examples of what you could say about your little guy. For instance: give him/her a name, birthplace, likes/dislikes, personality, super power??? Etc

The Bonus item is more of a wild card. It could be a random magnet or a couple of stickers. Or it could be something that you craft for your stuffie/mascot as a prop. Its up to you. Just something fun and dirt cheap.

I will organize if people are interested. I want to keep the turn around time pretty short though. How about two weeks? This package will be pretty small so that shouldnt be a problem.

How does this sound?

26  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Kimono wearing Kitty and Rabbit - Japanese Felt Mascots on: September 26, 2006 05:44:14 PM
I am still figuring out how best to put these little guys together. I think that the kimonos could look really cool if you add in some embroidery -- so I'm working on that in the future.

This little guy is headed for a swap partner's home. Awww...

The rabbit's eyes are much more even than they appear here.  Tongue
27  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Hello Kitty Netsuke (phone charms) from different regions in Japan on: September 10, 2006 08:39:00 AM
When I was doing study abroad and traveling across Japan, I got a little obsessive about collecting Hello Kitty netsuke (phone charms, essentially). I have over 40 of them. They all are about 3/4" to 1" high plastic charms with a silver rings inserted into them, which connect them to the braided cell phone strap.

I was switching them out on my phone, but I want to do something else with them. I'm tired of seeing them just sit around in a box. I was thinking about making a charm bracelet but that seems so obvious! Plus, I don't think that I would actually wear it. I guess it would depend on how good it looked though...  Lips sealed

These are not something that I would want to make a craft out of and then give away either because each one of these is only sold in one prefecture or town in Japan - so they really mark something special about that place and remind me of my travels/stay there.

My webpage has most of my collection listed with explanations about each (there are around 15 that aren't on there): http://www.christine-foster.com/omiyage.htm

Let me know any creative ideas you have!! Thanks!! Smiley

Oh, and each one has a really colorful card attached that says where it is from and what it means (sometimes). They all look different so... maybe there is something I could do with those too? (shown in the first picture).
28  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Kawaii Japanese Felt Mascot - Penguin [New Pics!!] on: July 20, 2006 06:36:20 PM
My homestay sister from Japan sent me a really cool book with patterns to make felt mascots. This is my first attempt at putting one together. It's about 4 inches tall or so. I just finshed another one in pink!

かわいいと思います。 Cheesy

By my feet for some height perspective.

The original cutie.

29  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / 1970s Autistic/Learning Disabled Book Illustration turned Painting on: July 14, 2006 09:32:34 AM
Unfortunately, I am not able to quote my source material here. This illustration was taken from a book that was printed in the early 1970's written for developmentally disabled children. My boyfriend came across it while working in the preservation department at the library. He photo copied a couple pages which were later turned into the below piece of art and another larger piece depicting the exact scene.

This is supposed to be a image of the right thing - and then the wrong thing...

Sorry the image of the painting is on a weird angle. We have it hanging in a small hallway so it was hard to shoot.
30  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross-stitch Avatar/Portrait born from Abi-Station Creations on: July 11, 2006 03:53:26 PM
I fashioned an avatar that looked just like my boyfriend from http://illustmaker.abi-station.com/index_en.shtml. Then I tossed it into Photoshop and blew it up to see the individual pixels. Next, I placed a grid and then got to work on my stitching.

Now we have a portrait of my boyfriend and one of me adorning our hallway. Its a lot more fun than a cheesey posed shot from JC Penny.  Wink

Here's my starting image:

Thanks to Abi-Station, I was able to make an avatar that looks just like him - minus the 2-day shadow. Then I added the grid and printed it out:

Here's the finished product. I just wish I hadn't ended up with so much white space at the top. Maybe someday I'll think of something to stitch up there:
