3  Re: Hair Accessories Swap Round 2 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: June 05, 2012 04:04:40 AM
Received a marvellous package of hair accessories today from Kookaloo_Starr.  She crafted them for my daughter Emiy who loves them.
First up a group shot.

How cool are these crocheted hair bands?  This one is my favourite.  Emily's favourite is the Rainbow one.
She also got some gorgeous kanzashahanskdjdnamkai (ok so I don't know their exact names Wink) flowers on clips and hair ties.

Two gorgeous cheery head bands.

And these 2 cute crochet and fabric clips?  These are probably my favourite.

Thank you so much Kookaloo_Starr!  You have made one pre-teen delighted.  I hope you don't feel like I've under crafted when you get your package.

It is a beautiful painting and I love the quote as well.

Thank you so much!

I've received too!  Thanks to Eeyore_witch.
My pages are for a journal for my 10 year old daughter to give her inspiration and encouragement as she travels the bumpy road of life.
I told Eeyore_witch that Emily loves fashion, she has aspirations to become a fashion designer.
I love the quote she chose:  " Oh, never mind the fashion? When one has a style of one's own, it is always twenty times better."--Margaret Oliphant.  I am embarassed to say I don't know who this wise lady is, but she is quite right.  I am off to Google her.
Here is the page. Sweet isn't it?

Thank you eeyore_witch!

6  House elf in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by spectrumsparksie on: March 26, 2011 01:27:06 AM
Hi all
I made this house elf for superhooker in the IYP swap and thought he deserved a post of his own.

He is made from a wire armature which I covered in aluminium foil and then polymer clay.  His eyes are plastic dolls eyes, which I inserted before I baked him.  I am no polymer clay expert, and baking those eyes was not a great idea because they "boiled", well they bubbled inside and got a slightly milky appearance.
the poly clay was a pinky flesh colour, so he has been painted and inked as well.
Hopefully since he arrived at superhooker's he has been given a sock or some other item of clothing, or I might have to report her to Hermoine and S.P.E.W
Unfortunately due to computers being evil agents of satan this is the only pic I have of him.
Hope you like him.  I do.

I received from superhooker this morning and Oh my goodness.  I am so spoilt! Don't know where to start.

This beautifully soft and divinely coloured cowl from superhookers own handspun....I am in LoVe  <3

Then there is this super duper scoodie which I love coz the scarfy part is nice and long.

And just to make sure I am always bundled up there is also this scarf which is light and lovely.  And long. I love loooong.

And so I can crochet something for myself: this handspun, I love the colours.

And a fun thing for me to take to school, this eyeball ball.  Is the second ball redundant? hmmm grammaticians you can tell me off if you like.

pic doesn't show but it is a great size for catching in two hands.
Stop now, have a coffee.....there is still more.....
Superhooker super stalked me and found that I love things to keep other things in
Look at this fabric basket....aint it da bomb?

and these two project bags, that have already been put to use

And here is the stuff that sent my little 7yo son into raptures....he loves playing knights, and other adventures.
His own chain to keep dragons and other baddies at bay:

"Mum, now I can be like Indianna Jones.  Whoop. whoop. whoop" Imitating lassooing with his new rope:

He also got these cute litte pocket critters. Aren't they fun?

She also included these cute notecards

and this DIY cupcake to decorate:

Superhooker you truly are amazing. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are truly generous.
PS. Keep an eye on the letterbox, something else is headed your way to try and even up the tally.  Wink

My partner superhooker has been unreachable since the send out date.  I know her Mum had been sick so I hope everything is OK. Here is what I sent her, I hope she has received it by now. I didn't take heaps of photos, just enough to identify each item..

This lap quilt, which started out in a completely different format but I had some troubles, so went back to an old favourite zig-zag pattern.  You can just see the spotted back in the foreground, I used bamboo for the batting. That stuff is supreme.

Then there is my favourite item, I hope he has been given a sock and set free...a house elf.  I hope superhooker is a member of S.P.E.W

I also tried my hand at some felted items from superhooker's wists.  Less successful, but still worth sending I think.
The first one is my favourite of the two.  Then second started out as placemats....oh well, we craftsters are a flexible mob.

And lastly every craftsters muse, an owl.

I also sent her some candles but I added naughty words to them, so we don't need a pic of those.

9  Re: Make a Purse & Fill It Swap (Round 6) Gallery in The Swap Gallery by spectrumsparksie on: February 21, 2011 02:08:08 AM
Ok.  Can I just start by saying. If you ever get Nilmerg for a partner you should do a very, very big happy dance.  This girl has some serious talent and has great creative ideas.

Ever wisted over those coiled bowls? I have.  Lots. Check out the absolutely awesomest of all awesomes...a coiled bag!!!!!

How cool is that?  It took 50 metres of cord!  200 metres of thread and 1 metre of fabric.  And God only knows just how much patience.
I love, love, love it!!!
I haven't got a good shot of the inside, but it has a zippered pocket, lots and lots of elastic loops and little fobby/hooky things to clip things like my keys and phone onto.
Did I mention how great it is yet? Nilmerg, you seriously knocked my sox off!
She also included another thing I have had on my wist for ages, this cute little critter.  He is made with felt and an upcycled pencil case.  I wish I had a photo of his backside (lol) because he has 4 or 5 different coloured zippers. I love him and am going to have to steal him back from my son who thinks because it is monster related it is for him.  No way!

She also made this cute little sewing kit.  How cute are the little geishas sticking out?  They are scissors and tweezers.

She nailed my colour choice too!  Is their nothing she cannot do?
She also included this shopping bag which she made. (looks like a shop one doesn't it? clever thing)

And this cute little coin purse that took me seriously 5 minutes to get open.  Duh!

a little froggy tape measure.

Nilmerg.  Thank you for being such a great partner.  I love my bag and am going off to fill it up with all my crap ready for use. I truly love it.

10  Emily's Summer Collection 2010 in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by spectrumsparksie on: October 17, 2010 04:36:35 AM
It is spring here in Australia and my 10 year old daughter Emily and I have been spending too much time watching Project Runway repeats.
She got the project runway kits for a birthday and has been having lots of fun with it.
We went off to spotlight and chose 2 fabrics and bought a couple of metres of each.
Then it was challenge time.  Emily decided to make a summer collection based around the fabrics and here are her results. (I'm not even going to publish mine as she puts me to shame!)

After much debate and discussions and asking Dad for his imput she decided we should make this one:

But then it fell to me to make the pattern!  Yikes!  I tried my best drafting a pattern from some other dresses she already has.
Then we got to sewing it together, she did the nice straight stuff and I did the annoying curvy facings and what not.
Here it is modelled on the designer herself, looking justifyably proud of herself too!!!

Please feel free to comment, but be gentle as I will be showing Emily your responses.
The first thing she asked was "Mum, can you put it on Craftster?" So here it is!
