11  Re: Prayer Flag Swap Rd. 2 GALLERY! in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: January 19, 2013 03:37:15 PM
I received my awesome flag from silentblair today (okay, it's been at the post office most of the week, but I was just able to go retrieve it). I LOVE it! It is so me!

my photography skills do not do it justice. The brown background is a rich chocolate color, the flags on the banner on top are made out of what looks like a book page. There are leaves drawn/painted on them. I love the saying, it is stamped on what feels like linen, framed in what I think might be fabric for cross-stitching. It really adds alot to flag! Adn the big maple leaf in the center is so great - machine stitched.

Thank you so much silentblair, you made my whole three-day weekend!

Here is my "wonder"ful flag from Smmarrt. It follows the hand theme we have going. I love the way the fingers are wrapped around the stem of the flower. The flower looks like a dandelion that has gone to seed, which I love. My new pup loves to run and bite the heads off of dandelions and ends up with little seeds all over her mouth and face!

what a clever and creative flag, Smmarrt, and its very well done. Thanks so much, I love it!

13  Re: Mini Art Quilt 5 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: June 07, 2012 04:32:14 PM
I received my mini art quilt from fiddlegirl8 today! I love it - it's right off my wist. I will apologize in advance, I do not claim to be a photographer. The photos do not do the colors justice, please keep that in mind!

Here's a photo of the whole package, wrapped up all pretty: the MAQ for me, an extra for me and one for my grandgirl! Thank you for your generosity fiddlegirl8! Oh, and a map in case I'm ever traveling cross country through Kansas!

Here is the bling for my grandgirl, she will love it! some sparkly fish for her hair (we are both Pisces you know!) and some stick-on rhinestones that she will wear as tattoos!

Here's my extra: a flat water bottle that I can take with me on my bicycle - and it matches my bike perfectly! Fiddlegirl said that she bought one for herself too, have you tried it out yet?

And here is my mini art quilt. I wish the background color was more true to life, it is a lovely green with tiny brown polka dots. Isn't it awesome?!

And here's a closeup of the flowers:

and the back. I love the fabric on the back, too bad you can't see the detail!

Thanks for being an awesome partner Diane - I LOVE my package. If you have better photos, please post them! And thanks to MareMare and pjherbert for being our organizers!

PS - just realized that the original artwork this was based on shows it with the flowers on the bottom with the sprouts on top (upside down). The artwork says they are rainbow seeds with sprouting leaves. I think I now like it better as flowers with stems!

14  Poppies - mini art quilt and mug rug in Quilting: Completed Projects by playswithneedles on: May 30, 2012 01:39:09 PM
I recently made these for fiddlegirl8, for the Mini Art Quilt 5 Swap. She added poppies, at the last minute, to her list of themes and I just knew I had to do something with poppies. We both had a pillow on our wists with a white panel with embroidered poppies, surrounded by gray. So I dug around in my stash and found some poppy fabric and combined it with the pillow design to come up with this:

And because it ended up looking a bit like a placemat, I decided to make a mug rug as my extra (dimensions are about 5"x8" - accidently cut off the top binding in the photo):

I'm so glad that she liked them!!

15  Re: The Art House Coop Projects - 10 x 10 Along in Craftalongs by playswithneedles on: April 28, 2012 02:59:30 PM
I like the diversity of what we've all received - similar to the 4 x 6 craftster swap!

Here's what I received from the Art House 4 x 6. I love it. She had a dried flower on the upper left and lower right corners, but they were mostly missing by the time I received it. I still love it. You can check our her blog here: iamrushmore.blogspot.com. She has a flickr account listed on her blog. She does postcard swaps, so I thought one day soon, I'd make her a postcard and surprise her. Anyway, here's the art (forgive my photography skills):

And I was planning on joining round 2 of the 4 x 6 on craftster, but I wasn't sure if I could squeeze out something good as I have several things going on at the moment, so I didn't sign up. And then I made the following (based on an Amanda Cass painting). I like it, so it will go on my wall  Cheesy

I'm going to have to start framing my 4 x6 pieces. First, I have to figure out the best way display the one I got from Smmarrt!

16  Re: Dishalicious Dishcloths Swap Round 12 Gallery in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: April 21, 2012 02:02:21 PM
I went to the Post Office today to mail my package to Sharalee, and her package was there waiting for me. She had them all fancily wrapped, unfortunately I didn't get a photo of them in all their beauty - I was too impatient and had to open them right then and there. And as usual, I have to apologize for my photography skills:

The one on the left, if you look closely, is knitted and the two stripes in the middle - blue and brown - are made in plastic, so I have a built in scrubby. This will come in handy as I don't have a dishwasher at my current place.

The cream colored in the middle is a crocheted potholder. I needed one SO bad. My potholders disappeared so I've been using towels. This one is nice and thick, so will work much better than what I've been using!!

The one on the right is a nice knitted cloth, in a really pretty teal color. It looks like the same pattern as the cloth on the left, but without the plastic.

I love all the variety - something to use in cooking, something for cleaning up the kitchen and one for use in the bathroom! Thanks so much Sharalee, for being an awesome partner! She also gave me a sachet, which didn't make it into the photo.

I have to warn you, my package to you isn't nearly so fancy and nicely decorated! And I forgot to take photos before I sent - DOH

17  Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 5 (Sign-ups April 10- April 18 8pm PAC, Sendouts May 29) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by playswithneedles on: April 15, 2012 12:27:08 PM
Not really artsy, but if my future partner wants a paper-pieced MAQ, I love paper-piecing! Here's my latest block (for someone I'm in a bee with), I think its the most complex I've tried yet - 56 pieces! The size is 12.5 inches, its a modified Paper Stars block from quilterscache.com. The corners are curling because the paper is still on it.

I'd be very happy to get that in my mailbox!

ha ha, I did get something very much like that in my mailbox! So funny, Smmarrt and I were partners in the Craftster 4 x 6 swap and didn't know it! Here's the one she sent me, I love it!

And I sent her a paper-pieced/quilted fish.

And here's the 4 x 6 I sent for the Art House Coop swap. It's a paper collage from paper I found in the recycle bin at work - a greeting card, some junk mail and a poster. I made another for myself, but didn't like it nearly as well. It seems like that is always true for me, I can never recreate something as well after the first one!

19  Re: 4x6 Art swap Gallery of Greatness! in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: April 07, 2012 02:45:13 PM
Love the little painting and the paper cut!

Today was a good mail day -  a tax refund from the state AND a 4x 6 piece of art from Smmarrt! It is perfect for me - a fabric and button collage containing John Lennon lyrics. I love the Beatles. I love buttons. And love fabric!

Thanks so much Smmarrt, I love it. It's currently sitting on my altar. I'm waiting for inspiration to hit on the best way to display it.

What a fun swap, can't wait to see more and for round 2  Smiley

20  Re: 50+ Wash Cloths-along- Active (updated Jan. 2012) in Crochetalongs by playswithneedles on: March 28, 2012 05:35:39 PM
Here are three cloths that I did QUITE a while ago. So long ago, I don't remember which patterns I used. I could probably figure it out if I needed to. I finished another a few days ago, but if it fits with my partner's interests in the current swap, I may use it for that. YAY, I'm up to 12!

Two patterns, one yarn, but not square. They actually fit my hand nicely, but I gave them away as a gift. I remember that these two were fun to make.

and a round one:

And yep, I'm still not a great photographer!

As an aside, I went to Joann's today for some velcro and noticed they have new colors of Sugar 'n Cream yarn! I was very tempted, but thought I'd wait until I see what my partner's preferences are. I did buy some Chocolate Ombre (cream to chocolate brown variegated type) for myself. I might make a stuffed animal out of it.
