1  Re: Slow cloth/boro embroidery patches - Gallery in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: November 08, 2016 07:36:19 PM
Joyful, I love what yofi sent you!

And feast your eyes on what I received from yofi today. They both have perle thread, which I don't have in my stash but now must get! I love the compositions of both of them, and so much texture, not to mention the lovely stitches! I'm not that great of a photographer so hope you can see the texture, in the black one especially.

I love how the colorful chain stitches are coming out of the receptacle - kind of like flowers/plants out of a vase or nice aromas out of a carafe.

I love the plant on the right, the vine, the weaving. I love it all  Grin

Thanks yofi for being a great partner!

Boro embroidery

Slow Cloth

What can I do with these patches, you ask? You could use these to patch your jeans, your jacket, collect more and make a purse, or use them as part of a bigger art project!

We will be signing up for one to two partners (new swappers limited to one partner), and you and your partner will agree on the exact number of patches to swap, between 1 and 3 patches of equitable sizes. For example, if partner 1 would like a 4" x 6" patch and their partner wants 3" x 4" patches, partner 1 should be making two 3" x 4" patches for every 4" x 6" patch received. Communication with your partner is key and please make sure your exchanges are fair!

3  Re: Journal Cover Swap (Send Out, March 16) in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: March 19, 2015 08:11:31 PM
And here it is! LimeRiot picked up on my love of circles, isn't this the greatest?! Don't you love the circles? And the stitching is so perfect.

And the back (the flash washed out the colors):

The inside flaps also had cute little circles stitched on. Thanks so much, LimeRiot, I love it and am sure it will get lots of use!!

Thanks for being a great partner and organizer! I hope you lead us in another of these swaps sometime soon. I feel like I didn't have quite enough time to perfect my technique and know that the next one I make will be much better than the first two Grin

yay, I received my awesome doll from mamarose22. I love her dress and mary jane shoes. mamarose made the skin parts of her body out of twill, what a great idea. And she honored my request for blonde hair. And she's a tall girl, standing at 23 inches. What isn't to love?!

Thanks so much mamarose22!

5  Re: Prayer Flag Swap Rd 4 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: May 10, 2014 03:43:39 PM
woohoo, I received two AWESOME flags from flyraeven. What a lovely Mother's Day gift! The tag on the left says "I am one." This has so many meanings for me, and I love the feeling of "ahhhh" I feel when I look at the flag. It reminds me of floating on the water - LOVE IT!! I love trees, and love that she paired them with one of my words "unity." I love this way of making trees (and flowers) out of fabric! And the lace trunks add a nice touch of texture. I am one lucky individual to be the recipient of such lovely flags and to have such a great daughter!! Thank you  Grin

My partner, pioneer9, has received and has asked me to post a photo of what I made for her. Here is the front of her neighborhood page

and here is the back - I like the way the back looks!

I had more crafty fun making this than I have had in a long while! I may have to make myself one  Smiley

I hope its what you had in mind (or better), pioneer9!

Here are my two lovely pages from the generous pioneer9! I wish my photography skills were better, the owl has some nice texture and so does the tree. I love trees (and the color brown too)! Thank you pioneer9, I should be sending yours out on Monday, weather pending!

8  Re: Fabric Art Journal Pages Swap - Send out December 16 in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: January 08, 2014 08:33:10 PM
I'm so relieved that the pages that alwaysinmyroom made for me arrived and were not lost! I'm so happy with these and am guessing a lot of you will be pinning them (perhaps I should have photographed them separately?)!

I LOVE them, they are perfect for me! The simplicity, the meaning and symbolism and the texture - gorgeous! I feel so fortunate to have had you for a partner  Smiley

The note that alwaysinmyroom enclosed with the pages said that the gingko leaves were dyed with onion skin, hibiscus, tea and then embellished with fabric paint. So lovely and fun to touch!

Thank you so much, what a great swap and I'm looking forward to round 2!

9  Re: Mini Art Quilt Swap 7 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: October 30, 2013 07:04:30 PM
get ready to be envious, I received the BEST mini art quilt from sloth003 today. I can't even begin to tell you how much I love it. It is a miniature version of a quilt I had favorite on flickr. I love the colors  - a mix of neutral and nature-inspired. Fabric with circles. Abstract ovoids that with a little imagination could be nature related as well. THOSE ARE APPLIQUED, PEOPLE! And to top it off, the quilting is a Buddhist eternal knot (which, unfortunately, is hard to capture on my camera). Between the nature, the eternal knot and the ovoids resembling locks and keys, I believe this little quilt holds the answers of the universe  Grin

Thanks, slothy, you outdid yourself!!

10  Re: OTT Swap Secret Pal Edition - Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by playswithneedles on: March 02, 2013 03:48:32 PM
I received my OTT from my secret pal _____________________! It is a hand dyed, hand painted, hand beaded (sparkly ones!), hand stitched OCTOPUS! To the right of it is the photo it is based on. And it was wrapped in the green/turquoise fabric and tied with the ribbon. Four gifts in one! Thanks secret pal, I love it - I love all things from the sea. And who doesn't love fabric and ribbons?!
