51  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Hats hats and hats on: July 24, 2011 04:15:27 PM
These are my first knitting projects.  My daughter got a knifty knitter for her birthday and I decided to try it out.  It is totally addicting.  I made my first two hats for swaps and my third hat is for my soon-to-be nephew.  My daughter even started one!  It is so fun, I can see how everyone loves knitting!

First one for Big and Beautiful swap- no cuff (TIG Quinn yarn):

Second one with cuff for Three Tiny Movie things swap:

52  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / Daughter's Christmas present on: July 24, 2011 04:04:46 PM
So at Christmas time, my sister and I transformed my daughter's room from a junky heap into a fun, relaxing pre-teen room.  It was so much fun to create and see everything come together as the transformation happened.  The furniture and accesories in the room all cost less than $150 as we got some of it free, from thrift stores and yard sales.

Her reaction:

It was amazing to do this, so exciting.  She loves it and has kept it clean since!  That is all we were aiming for, a place for her to be proud of and be herself in!

53  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / My first successful garden on: July 24, 2011 03:29:34 PM
I have been planting a garden in this tiny backyard with horrid soil for the past three years and this year is the first year that anything has fruited!  Well, there was last year's artichokes that I didn't know when to harvest as with the black eyed peas three years ago that I let die because I didn't know when to pick them either.  Turns out letting them die was the best thing ever, that is how you make soup beans!  WOOHOO!  Anyways, I digress to this year.

My artichoke plant which was planted three years ago, died, then came back last year (two years after it died), fruited and gave me 16 artichokes this year.  Now those stalks are dying and new ones have already sprouted, it is an odd and amazing plant!

As you can tell, I had no idea about gardening or artichokes when I planted it super close to the vines on the fence.  Oh well, live and learn.  At least it fruited to give me these:

I also planted radishes, carrots (never sprouted), onions, eggplant, watermelon, green beans, luffa, grapes, early girl tomatoes, lemon boy tomatoes, chocolate cherry tomatoes, butter lettuce, and spinach (which sprouted and then wilted and withered away).

From closest to camera to furthest: lemon boy tomato, 2 early girl tomatoes, onions, eggplant, radishes, carrots, artichokes and beyond artichokes is the watermelon.

First planted

When planting, the three year old knocked over all the seed packets causing several to spill onto floor.  We scooped them up and put into this container for a mystery crop.

56  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Brain Slug Headband and Fancy Gloves on: December 12, 2010 03:17:48 AM
I made this modified Brain Slug headband for the Geek Chic Swap Round 2.  Hand sewn felt and I glued it onto the headband.

For the Pamper Your Lady Bits Swap, I made these decorated gloves.  I figured if it is cold enough to wear gloves it doesn't mean you can't have pretty, fancy hands Smiley

57  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Autumn Embellished Wooden Spoon on: December 12, 2010 02:59:46 AM
I don't have the skills that many of the talented polymer clay crafters have and this is my first attempt at trying it.  I mixed a bunch of autumn colors together and twisted it onto this spoon for the I love Autumn Swap.

All three of the embellished spoons I made
58  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Cherry Skulls Dog Dish on: December 12, 2010 02:52:45 AM
I was an angel for the Dog Swap Round 4 and created these Cherry Skull dog dishes based off something from my partner's wist.  These dishes were once pink rimmed and said Princess in the center.  The holder was also white.

59  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Halloweekend Swap on: October 18, 2010 01:50:30 AM
It is getting very close to Halloween and I have been looking out for the Halloweekend swap but haven't seen one.  Was wondering if anyone was interested in doing it again?  Would open sign-ups no later than Tuesday, craft over the weekend and then sendouts by Tuesday of next week?  These dates can be flexible but want to have stuff sent in time for Halloween.  Anyone up for it?  I love these swaps, gets my creativity flowing.  I can organize if anyone is interested.
60  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Dexter Inspired Cutting Board on: September 24, 2010 04:42:54 PM
For the Dexter swap, I got the idea to do a fun play on words project.  His boat is named, "Slice of Life".  Food is known as a life source and what do we slice in on? A cutting board.  Putting these thoughts together, I created a woodburned image of Dexter's boat on the backside of a cutting board.
