1  Kratos Sackboy Doll with Medusa Head in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AmiAmour on: October 17, 2010 04:47:40 PM
Hey guys,

It's been awhile since I've posted a new project, but I wanted to share a Kratos Sackboy Doll I created.  It took quite some time, but I really like how it turned out!  I had to learn two new things to do with it which was work with some chains and also work with polymer clay for the swords.  He stands at 12 inches tall.

Here he is:

He has a Medusa Head sewn to his right hand.  He has two swords which he can strap to his back.  One sword he can actually hold with his left hand too.  The Medusa Head has snakes with eyes I created from jeweled beads I glued on.  She has a little bit of blood dripping from her head because after all it has been ripped off!

This is my favorite photo!

2  Re: Craft My Pet Gallery (Send Out 9/24/10) in The Swap Gallery by AmiAmour on: October 03, 2010 11:05:40 AM
I received this past week from my most awesome partner, RikaHeart!  I love everything... she really outdid herself!

Here's my loot.
My absolute fav... pillows with photos of Thor on them!  It matches perfectly with my sofa.

Here's actual Thor sniffing the pillows:

She also sent 2 cat toys for my cats.  Unfortunately one of them just died this weekend, hit by a car.  RIP Booty =(

But here you can see Mikey playing with his new toy!  He really has a lot of fun with them and gets tons of exercise!

Thor also got a toy!

He also got some delicious things to eat.  The Gravy train and homemade doggy treats!  I didn't see the note she sent (nor that it said doggy treat on the bag!) and I tried it out and I was like "Ugh... these are not cookies!" lol

An iron print of Thor which I can put onto a T-shirt, yay!

A nice photo of Thor created to look like an oil painting.  I've placed it on my whiteboard in my crochet room for now.

And finally (one of my favs too!) a light switch of Thor which is already installed in our master bedroom.

Thanks so much Rikaheart, you made my day!

3  Piranha Plant Showdown! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AmiAmour on: August 20, 2010 09:01:53 AM
It's the Battle of the Piranha Plants!  I was experimenting with shapes and sizes and made 2 different versions of the Piranha Plant.  Which one is more superior, Piranha Plant #1 or Piranha Plant #2?  Read the stats and cast your votes!

Height: 8 inches
Width of Bulb: 3.5 inches
Snaps per Minute: 5 SpM
Introducing PIRANHA PLANT #1. It grows to be a height of 8 inches tall and has a sizeable breadth to its red bulb at 3.5 inches wide. Its favorite snack is Mario and its large jaw is capable of swallowing Mario or Luigi in one big gulp. Its big head makes it a slow mover, but when it does take a bite, you better watch out or youll be dinner!

Height: 7 inches
Width of Bulb: 2.5 inches
Snaps Per Minute: 100
Next up, we have PIRANHA PLANT #2. A fine specimen indeed. This ones a baby and is still growing, but dont underestimate it. What it lacks in size, it more than makes up in viciousness and appetite. Its jaws snap at a feverish pace and can set a record of 100 SpM (Snaps per Minute). A couple of those snaps will surely shrink you down in size!

Who will win this match?

And o no, Kitty makes a serious mistake while searching for some catnip.

Incidentally, the cataloging turned out to be very important - the package was damaged in the mail and had to be re-wrapped. T

Oh no!  I'm so glad that everything made it safe!  I put some mini moo cards for you that had pictures of Miyazaki creatures.  I wanted to turn them into magnets for you, but didn't get a chance too!  But if you have any magnetic strips lying around just glue them to the back and ouila, magnets for your fridge or whiteboard! ^^

PS Open the white totoro  Smiley

Hehehe.  It's funny just before I read this, I was showing my fiancee your incredible Totoro nesting dolls.  And he was opening them all, and got to the "last one" the white Totoro, and he was opening it.  And I was saying "no, that's the last one" when he popped it open to my amazement!  And I saw the little sootball in it!  I'll have to take another photo to show people tomorrow when it's good daylight.   Hahaha so my fiancee figured it out and you surprised me one more time ethertree!  Now time to look into the sootball =P

But I also took a photo session with the Spirited Away gang crew!  So here they are.

No Face was one of my fav too!  I just might have to make one for myself!

And Ootori-sama or Duck God.

I was trying to reenact the scene where the Mouse was imitating Chihiro stepping on that worm and the sootballs were gathered around him.

The Giant Baby reversible to Mouse.

And of course Bou-nezumi (Mouse) also needs his partner Haedori to help him fly around (Blackbird)

I received from Ethertree and omygosh I could not have had a better swap partner!  I absolutely love everything she sent.  And now for the photos.

Here's everything as a set.

An origami Totoro with a special note in it for me!  Where did you get the origami pattern for it, ethertree?  I want to make it myself!

And I squealed when I saw these.  Black Sootball with Candy Star Earrings!  I wore them right away!

My favorite of all the crafts she sent (and it's hard to choose!), but the Totoro doll.  I'm not sure what material it's made from but wood and handpainted?  The expression is so perfect!  I bow to her painting skills!

And the Totoro has a surprise!  It's actually a nesting doll.  Take the top half off and there's another Totoro underneath, this time, blue!

But wait... there's more!  Here's the white Totoro hiding within the Blue Totoro!

And here they are as a threesome set - so absolutely adorable.  I will treasure them and they are going in my crochet studio!

And finally a Bath Token... but wait, it was a wrapper!

So what's underneath the wrapper?  It's Oatmeal Soap that smells so fragant and nice!

Finally, the whole set once again.  You can also see the Kodama head made from paper pulp (I'm thinking this is similar to papier mache?).  When you shake it, it makes a rattling sound too!

I had so much fun making and receiving the items.  Thank you so much, ethertree.  It was such an honor to be your swapping partner!  My first craft swapping experience more than blew me away and now I think I may be addicted to craft swaps!

8  Sackboy with Zipper Pouch in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AmiAmour on: June 06, 2010 11:00:25 PM
Hey guys, I decided to make Sackboy but with a sort of utilitarian purpose to him.  I wanted to make his zipper workable, but I thought it wouldn't be a good idea if all his stuffing and guts were hanging out, so I made a little pouch in which you can put little trinkets in such as a small note, coin, or perhaps candy.

The parts that gave me difficulty when doing it was first trying to make the open mouth.  It was my first time attempting the open mouth look.  I just took a circle and then sewed it in half down the middle to make a semi circle which I then crocheted into the head.

The pouch I was able to make by sewing on a rectangle crochet piece behind the zipper inside the body.  So here he is!

You can read more about the construction at my blog post here:

9  Glow in the Dark Kodama! (with new Photography update) in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AmiAmour on: May 18, 2010 10:39:17 PM
06/01/10 Photo update!

Hey guys, I wanted to give the Kodamas a proper photo session, so I took them over to a Japanese Garden for their photo shoot!  Enjoy.

You can check out more of the photo shoot and in larger resolutions here:

Hey guys, I had so much fun playing around with this Glow in the Dark yarn.  I knew I wanted to make something special for it and I thought the Kodamas from Princess Mononoke would be perfect for it!  The yarn I used is called Nightlights, and it really does glow in the dark!  It's made from nylon.  The yarn strand itself was a little too skinny for me, so I double stranded it and then it was perfect for amigurumi-making!  Here's some pics of the Kodamas. I created 2 different versions - 1 sitting and 1 standing.  Standing one kinda reminds me of an alien.  The last pic you see is of it glowing in the dark.  Wish I could get a better in the dark picture.

I also uploaded a video on you tube so you can see the ami and yarn in action.

Oh yes, and I'm also including a link of the free pattern.  I think these Kodamas all would like to have some more trees to dwell in ^^

10  Gromit Amigurumi! in Amigurumi: Completed Projects by AmiAmour on: May 04, 2010 05:32:09 PM

So I made 3 different versions of Gromit, before being satisfied with this one.  It was the head that gave me trouble because I wanted him to have his forehead jut out a little, and then for his snout be more pronounced.  So this is what I ended up with!   It's my cat, Booty in the background ^^  Mikey is there too, the white cat, but I cut him out, hehe.

You can see more pics here of my previous Gromits as well as WIP pic!
