1  Re: Introducing...THE PAJAMA SKIRT!! in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by arabella on: May 04, 2007 10:39:05 AM
update - I made one last year.  (and I had totally forgotten about this thread so thanks for bumping it!)  I made the elastic waistband really loose so it's super comfortable!

I'm not exactly following the format, but wanted to say I got one present done!  yay!  the good ole cabled scarf for my partner.  it was supposed to be last year's gift, but yeah, you know.

and I'm hard at work on a hat for my mom's partner now.

3  Re: blocking.... in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by arabella on: April 13, 2007 05:48:04 PM
I was actually just coming here to ask if I should block the good ole cabled scarf made from Lion Brand Wool Ease?  (mostly acrylic, partly wool).  will blocking do anything?  It's a present for my partner so I have to plan carefully if I want to block it, that's why I'm asking instead of just trying it.  (ok maybe also because I'm a bit lazy!)

just for fun here is a pic of the scarf.

4  Re: crocheting for men in Crochet: Discussion and Questions by arabella on: March 31, 2007 02:21:28 AM
the men I showed like this one (made for a man):

it's just alternating sc and ch1, e.g:
row 1 sc, ch1, repeat till end
row 2 sc in each ch1 space, and ch1 over each sc

5  Re: anyone with patterns to knit flat? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by arabella on: February 03, 2007 12:16:42 AM
I was just where you are about a week ago, then I took a deep breath and picked up the circs... I love it!  I've already finished two hats!   here is a picture of my first one.  this was also my first time decreasing...  I made a whole hat on Monday!  (I was traveling, so I was knitting like crazy on the plane, then finished at night).  I seriously love love love working with circs.   maybe you could do something like this cowl scarf thing?  or this one?  (that way you could avoid dpns which are slightly fiddly.  but circs are fabulous!!!)

and here is a pic of my hat... only my 3rd (?) FO and my first circular knitting... believe me if I can do it, anyone can!  you can see it's not perfect...

7  Re: Decorate my house room by room craft-a-long in Craftalongs by arabella on: January 24, 2007 10:54:56 AM
thanks you guys!  lots of great ideas.  loving the "one big piece of artwork" idea.  this idea is really intriguing:

Arabella- is it possible for you to put the couch up against that wall?  I would turn it that way if it was my place.  You could then put the coffee table in front of it, the new chairs you have coming on the other side of the coffee table and add some side tables over by the window.  I would keep the plants where they are, and possibly add more on some the side tables...and I would paint the window wall a deeper color of what is already there.  I'd also do some sort of sisal blind or a different curtain and add some art work on the bigger walls.
ok I did it, and here's a pic. also with the new coffee table and chair.  btw we ordered a new sofa to match the chair because we are so in love with the chair.  it's green.  you can't really tell in this crappy picture though.  so, what do we think of the new arrangement?  it's pretty cramped, right?  it's cozy when you're sitting in it, but I'm worried it looks too cramped.  all ideas welcome...

yes!  I already started.  here's one ornament - a crocheted snowflake.  I want to do a bunch to use as present toppers, so I haven't stiffened it yet.

ok I need some advice please.  sorry this is a terrible picture for what I need advice for, but it was one I had and I haven't been motivated to take a new one.  we have a tiny, tiny apartment.  (We live in San Francisco!  you know what rents are like there!)  With an ugly carpet.  So, if you can see in the back of the picture, the "living room" area, what can I do with that wall area in to the right (as you're looking at the pic) of the couch?  I was thinking maybe very shallow shelves with leaning artwork or small artsy things?  our walls are drywall so we can't do anything too heavy.  or a small small table with a plant on it?  because we love plants.  or just some pictures/artwork hung directly on the walls?  I know that lamp is ugly, but it was a handmedown, plus it's handy for reading or knitting in that corner... should we get rid of it and get a cuter one?  we should, right?  why am I even asking? and I know that is a dining room chair in the living room, and as part of this craft-a-long, we ordered a new chair and coffee table, so that will be gone!  you'll see in the "after" photos.

ok enough babble!  any ideas about what to do with that blank wall space back there?  or any other ideas?  thanks!

10  Re: Fill-a-Box Supply Swap: New Years Resolution Clean those Craft Closets in The Swap Gallery by arabella on: January 20, 2007 08:30:44 AM
I got a big supergenerous package from elphalba!!
look at all this stuff!!  lots of different things makes it perfect for my crafting ADD.  fabric, yarn, a pattern, stickers and papers, a book on using eyelets (how did you know I'd had those eyelets in the drawer for a couple of years?!) make purse kits, sculpey molds (I've been wanting to try sculpey!), and a super nice note!  there is a lot of stuff I haven't tried before so I will be in for some fun experimenting!  thank you elphalba!
