1  UNITED STATES / Michigan / Swap-O-Rama-Rama in Plymouth looking for volunteers on: April 22, 2009 11:11:11 AM
Handmade Detroit is hosting a Swap-O-Rama-Rama next weekend (May 1-3) in downtown Plymouth as a part of the Green Street Fair, and we're looking for some help!

First, we're looking for volunteers! Experienced sewers (nothing special, you know how to use a sewing machine and stitch a straight line is experience enough) are especially needed, but non-sewers are super appreciated too! An hour or a day, any of your time is helpful in teaching people of all ages how to repurpose their used clothing into a new useful something! If you are interested in volunteering, please email bethany@rewarevintage.com

We are also in need of clothing donations for the Swap-o-Rama-Rama! If you live in the Plymouth-ish area, and have some clothing or linens in your home you'd like to donate, please bring it to the Swap-O-Rama-Rama on any day at any time that weekend, and we'll find new uses for your donations!

The hours of the SRR are:
Friday, May 1st noon-7
Saturday, May 2nd 10-7
Sunday, May 3rd 10-5

Thanks so much!

Yep, these nights are still going on! We actually we added two more!

Sundays at the Trolley Stop in Taylor from 2-8, and Thursdays at the Corktown Tavern in Detroit. I'm working on trying to bring it to a couple more places too!

The turnout is best at the Magic Stick, as the other nites are newer. But every night is alot of fun!

If anyone wants to see pics or the vendors, go to http://www.myspace.com/rockandrummage

Rock and Rummage - my two favorite words!

Just wanted to give an update that the Baar Bazaar is still happening at the Magic Stick in Detroit on Wednesday nights from 6pm till 2am. Tables are free and provided by the bar, and no reservations are needed. Sell anything you want! We've had vendors selling cds, dvds, vintage clothing, books, stained glass items, adult novelties,  knitted and crocheted items, jewelry, art, even personal massage! Traffic is great, and makes the night well worthwhile.

We also set up a similar event at the Belmont in Hamtramck  on Tuesday nights called the Rock N Rummage. Same as the Baar Bazaar, tables are free and provided by the bar, no reservations needed. We set up at 9:30, after Punk Fitness is over, and it runs until 2am. Any and all merch is cool to sell, and there's great drink specials too!

Both events are alot of fun, and did I mention tables are FREE!!! Even if you don't want to sell, come on down and take a look at all the neat shopping! If anyone has any questions, please email me or post!

A new knitting group just started at the Magic Stick in Detroit on Woodward, if you don't mind the drive. They meet on Tuesday evenings, but I'm not sure of the time.

Ooooooh! I'm so excited! I had a uber big Depeche Mode (my favorite band of all time)  shirt and the print was so big I couldn't take it in on the sides or I'd lose Martin's face! Its been sitting on top of my dresser for months now while I brainstormed on what to do with it --- now I have a super cool skirt to wear out tonight!~Thanks~!

Howdy- Baar Bazaar caught my eye in MT last week, was curious if it was as nifty as it sounds.  Would I need to reserve a table?  Thanks for the review, reware, I'll say howdy when I see ya there.

They aren't reserving tables right now for it, just come on down! See you there spiderallis!

I have some jewelry I made and was thinking about brining it out to the baar just because I like going to it myself! Do you think certain items sell better than others? How early do you have to get there to set up?

I've brought some jewelry in the past, and sold it well! We've had all different vendors over the weeks, from clothes to cds and records. Some local artists have come and sold drawings, we've had a few people selling incense and candles, we even had a couple professionals giving massages! As long as it is more targeted towards the 18-30 crowd, I think anything could sell!

You can come as early as 6:00 to set up, but it doesn't really get busy until after 8 or 9, so some vendors don't come until then. If you come down to sell, come say hello to me! I'm the girl with the t-shirts right near the door!

How is the turn out for the baar bazaar? Thats sounds like a lot of fun..

Its really good! Most of the time there is a show going on upstairs or next door or both, and we get swamped when they end. Even without a show there is at least a hundred people in there cause of leagues and the bazaar!

Its really a great time and you can make some $$ and new friends too! And you can't beat a free table!

Is it Haberman Fabrics in Royal Oak? I haven't been there in a long time, but they are really great.

Hey There!
I wanted to let all know in the Metro Detoit area about the wonderfullness of the Baar Bazaar. It happens every Wednesday night from 6 - 1 or so in the Garden Bowl at the Magic Stick. It is sort of a flea market inside the bar, and you can sell anything you want and buy other peoples cool stuff. They provide a 6 foot table for you, and they don't even charge you anything to sell! There's different vendors selling records, videos, crafty stuff, and I sell vintage clothes and some of my own creations. Check it out - its alot of fun whether you are buying or selling!
