1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / What kind of fabric is this? on: September 23, 2008 12:45:25 PM
I've come into a large quantity of fabric from what used to be several very large curtains.  Unfortunately, I don't know what kind of fabric it is.  It's slick feeling, and I'm pretty sure it's synthetic, but I don't know what exactly.  The edges fray easily into long strands lengthwise and fuzz widthwise, if that makes any sense.  The front is striped, but the back is white and has a weird, almost wood grain look to it.  Here's a link to a (bad cameraphone) pic of the back.  ADDED: Pic showing the front, back, and fraying edge.  Can anyone identify this fabric?  Thanks!
2  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Introduce Yourself / Sewing Newb on: September 10, 2008 02:02:27 PM
Hi!  Long time lurker, first time poster.  My name's Kate.  I've been interested in sewing for as long as I can remember, and am finally getting around to learning.  My goal is to be able to make my own costumes for Renaissance festivals and the like, and I love costuming in general.  I have a great admiration for anyone who can make things with their own hands.  Crafters are my heroes.   Cheesy

I'll probably just lurk around some more for a while, occasionally poking my head up to make a comment.
