yes crisco can be used, it is what I used, its all I had.  if a triple batch would have made more then 33 ( I got tired and sore after rolling that many.... ) then a single batch would make about 10-12, which should be enough for 4, depends on how big  of meals you generally eat

I think it would be about  1/4 cup oil.  i say this because When I made them I used a measuring cup (I trippled the recipe so these measurements are off from the recipe) I put 3 cups milk in a 4 cup measure and put the 3/4lbs of lard into it, and it went up to the 4 cup mark....  So if my math is right, it would be somewhere between 1/4 and 1/3 ?

 Shocked  Actually Ecuadoriana, that red onion, farmers cheese sugar combo actually sounds quite good to me.... no one else in my house would like that... but I sure would!   Muchos gracias!!!!

 Grin your welcome!  I tried to organize an empanada party when I made these but everyone was busy so I was alone Sad  But they are just as delish none the less!
