you know, I read this again...

2) I've had a spinning bug in my ear for a while now and wondered how you got started

I bought a spindle the first chance I could, then serendipity intervened and I got a wheel.  It was all history from there!  I used videos on youtube to start with, eventually made it to a free to come fibre gathering, and got some pro tips, and then it snowballed into a Master Spinner Certificate.

So pretty! The colors remind me of sherbet.

yes!! I was thinking the same thing! So pretty!!

Bella, I'm sorry if this sounds strange or if you've answered it before/posted pictures, but do you also spin your own yarn? I'm only asking because 1) these are gorgeous and I'd hate to not own them for something lol and 2) I've had a spinning bug in my ear for a while now and wondered how you got started  Cheesy

Thanks Ladies!

Audania1 - I do spin!  I spin a lot actually, and Craftster is the reason I started.... No word of a lie, I saw a picture of yarn here, then found out it was yarn they MADE! I was floored..  And down the rabbit hole I went!

Thanks everyone!  I got all caught up in Spinzilla that I forgot to post the video of the process... I'll pop it into the op.

I did it again!  I participated in Spinzilla, and while I didn't make my goal, I still made a lot of yarn... 5310 yards worth of singles to be exact... Cheesy  (there's only one little bit of plying cred in there)

On my best day I spun 1036 yards, and it's what's on the niddy noddy. I'm going to spin 6 more ounces of it, and ply it all together..

Anywho Cheesy  It was fun!

Up here in the Great White North, on the last weekend in September, communities across the country are encouraged to hold a Culture Days celebration.  Thanks in part to a grant and in part to the wonderful people at the local museum who worked hard at pulling together a whole big shindig, I was able to facilitate this project.

On Friday I went into the school, and every child (and a few teachers) were introduced to wet felting.  Each of them made their very own small square of felt (taken to the prefelt stage) to be put into one big tapestry.

130 odd pieces of felt

Then, on Saturday, the rest of the community was invited to the hall where I was set up with the felting and the start of the tapestry (along with a bunch of other folks that had other things displayed. There were even folk singers!)  Anyone who wanted to was invited to make their own square to add to it.

A few ladies doing their part!

I managed to get a piece made too, despite the busy day! (an acton shot, because why not!)

When there was about 2 hours left to the day, we wet the whole piece out, and rolled it.  I did get some community participation here too!

I did have to finish it off all the way myself at home, but that part's not so hard when you have a washing machine Wink

This is the finished piece.

It will take a tour around town, and end up in the museum to be displayed for years to come!  Now just to come up with a way to mount it.....

p.s. there will be more details posted to my blog tomorrow with a video I put together today after finishing it.  I'll share that once it's up!
Here's the link to the video of the process! https://youtu.be/okXY2lwl_qs
(gosh, I must be spent... I had to edit twice for poor grammar! lol)

To save you all some bandwidth, I made photo collages Smiley  You're welcome!
So, what we have here is a collection of dyed tops, and a few batts.  I did dye all the fibre with a mix of Ashford, Dharma, Jacquard and Also dyes... I'm definitely not picky!
All the balls of top are corriedale wool, and the batts are either polwarth or corriedale as a base with a bit of silk thrown in for fun.

Spinzilla is this week, so I'm planning to spin as much of this as humanly possible in the next 7 days!
