1  Play garden -- crafting mojo is back! in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by rockon on: April 28, 2015 04:11:02 PM

Here is a photo of my first project (other than knitted dishcloths) since my wife was diagnosed with cancer in 2013.  She is in remission now and life is slowly returning to normal and my crafting juices are kicking back into gear . . . anyway, I found this awesome tutorial (http://www.abeautifulmess.com/.services/blog/6a00d8358081ff69e200d8354b1b2d53ef/search?filter.q=felt+garden) and decided I'd make the big-project leap.  I finished the other day and am very happy with the result.  I did not take good in-progress shots, but here is the finished product.  I added a sign to the box because it is for my nephews and they love to follow their grandpa (my dad) around his garden, which is a market garden called "Kimball's U-Pick."  His very classy advertising statement is "What are u picking?" You can't see it in the photo but that is on the sign Smiley

Excited to send it Friday and hopefully get some action shots when my sis gives it to the boys.  Yay, back in the game, and back on the boards!  Now to choose the next project . . . any suggestions?

2  Re: Journal Prompt Swap - Round 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by rockon on: May 13, 2013 05:13:26 PM
Hello Everyone,

I am sorry to have been MIA.  A family emergency has become epic, and I have not had time to really be online or craft.  However I have received 3 awesome sets of journal prompts:
From Flip Flop:

I love the colors on the black/white/red one, and the abstract yet elegant design

From FairyHazeDesigns:

I like the whimsical drawings on the one that says to describe yourself through words and small drawings -- and the painting on the other is neat, sort of marbled

From Cygni:

The silhouette is so elegant and drawn with such exactness!

Thanks to all of you.  I will be trying to get myself together some pockets of time and emotional evenness (or at least a semblance of it) to create your prompts.  I really love the prompts I received and will reciprocate.  Things are not better but seem to have plateaued over the past two days, so I will hopefully do this soon.  I will stay in contact with our fearless leader.

Rock on!

3  Ratty old college sweatshirt . . . into alma mater memorabilia pillow! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by rockon on: April 10, 2013 06:32:52 PM

It has been forever since I have posted anything (it has been forever since I have MADE anything) but tonight I turned my partner's 16 year old, ratty, college sweatshirt (all frayed around the neck and sleeves and several sizes too big) into Alma Mater memorabilia pillow fun!  I am sure this has been done 1,000s of times but the creation of this squishy trip down memory lane got my endorphins going and reminded me how much fun I have crafting Smiley

Thanks for looking and rock on!

Get ready for some cuteness!

I received from craftaddiction for my new niece or nephew:

First, a cupcake hat!

Next, a great rattle and warm bootie/socks

I apologize for the poor photo quality; I can't take a decent picture of anything!

Rock on,

Here are pictures of the goodies Kaz and TroubleT sent me!

First these professional looking jar mixes from Kaz:

They are Spiral Soup Jar Mix and Rice and Lentil Soup Mix -- Thanks Kaz!  (and thanks for organizing!)

And the amazing apron TroubleT sent for my friend along with the matchbox car case (I got one too!  Squee!) for my nephew:

Thanks so much to both of you!

Rock on!

I have been checking this thread a few times a week and marvel at the amazing things people have been making.  I'd love to hear how people make crafting a priority -- what techniques do you use to make the time and space for crafting?  Time is a funny thing for me, the way it slips away without proper crafting periods inserted!  Finally, though, I have something to post!  These have been on my mental list for weeks.  (Later I plan to revise my list to better reflect my mental list).

My roommate (a man with a developmental disability I am a live-in caretaker for) and I made some seed starters.  I got the idea from a tute on Dana Made It via Crafting a Green World.  Here are the pics:

C. mixing the newspaper and tissue paper for the starters:

The bowls of pulpy paper soaking:

Our drying seed starters!

We went overboard with the seeds, but it was fun!  We plan to give them away as happy spring gifts.

You all are inspirations!

Rock on!

Received yesterday and WOW!

5 awesome pouches (which were stuffed with coffee packets, chocolates (!), and coffee syrups)
a cute little ami cupcake (?) it has little eyes!  It is super adorable
a mug rug with a black appliqud cat on it -- we have a black kitty
four awesome coasters
a pound of yummy smelling Michigan coffee
the great mug that came with a cute spoon that looks like a cat perching on the rim of the mug
THe chocolates are wonderful and have a map of MI embossed on the top!!
My dad grew up in Ann Arbor so the MI stuff has a nostalgic ring for me.  I was SPOILED.  Thanks Thimbles71, it rocks!

PS: I am a TERRIBLE photographer.  I apologize for my photos!

The stuff that has been posted lately is brilliant!  You know what made me laugh about the Boy Scout quilt awesomeness?  It is how un-rotten your rotten little boy has to be to earn the Eagle Scout honor, rottenlittleboys!

I am working on an embroidery kit for a swap partner -- it was the perfect theme and I thought I would take the opportunity to practice/learn stitches (my embroidery skills are fairly poor).

I haven't really finished much except these capes I made for our Penguin Plunge (a jump into the lake here in VT in February to raise money for Special Olympics).  One is pictured but I made 2 -- one for me and one for a friend who also jumped. The picture stinks, I am sorry.  And please excuse my messy room!

We had a food swap at the UU society I belong to tonight.  It was so much fun!!

Rock on, all!

Wow.  I have been working to keep up with this thread each evening, and it is inspirational!  You all are crafting machines!

I have been knitting a bit each night but have not completed anything quite yet, knitting-wise.  Last night and today I finished a couple sewing projects (warning -- I am a bad photographer!):

4. Flannel baby blanket for a friend's wee one:

and my new #6 - set of burp cloths for one of the many babies-to-be in my life (pictured here all packaged up with the blanket, the pics of the cloths alone were so blurry!):

I will be making more burp cloths -- they are quick and easy and look nice AND will be useful!

Quick question -- do you think the animal fabric is unisex?  I say yes, but my friend thinks it is "girlie"

Thanks for the inspiration!

I finished a pair of bitty baby socks for my sister's embryo.  And here is the tutu for my friend's kids' dress up chest.  Happy holidays to all . . . this year has flown by; it's difficult to believe it is Christmas Eve!

Bitty Baby Socks:

Happy crafting!  Rock on!
