Very neat!  I'm still in the beginning learning stages of quilting but that video made it look almost easy!  And your quilt looks fantastic...I hope your surgeries go well!  Btw, Cosmo is a great model Smiley

That is awesome!  I've heard of jungle, underwater, princesses, Noah's Ark, space, etc. for a baby's room theme, but never pirate!  That will fit right in and I'm sure they will love it!  I especially like the last name, hehe.

Oh my gosh, I LOVE the colors!  Yes, they are random, but they all definitely work!  This is great!

Padester, I honestly was just playing around and cannot for the life of me figure out what I did!  I remember that I was attempting a "flying geese" of some sort with a regular square ruler, but I have no idea how it came out that way...sorry!  I probably did it the "tedious process that was probably not the best way" lol.

Very cool!  It is sophisticated yet fun, so I think you hit your goal Smiley  Good job, and enjoy snuggling under it for yourself!

I got the DNA fabric from fabric.com...just search for "double helix" - it isn't listed under "DNA".  And there are 2 varieties! Cheesy  Glad there are some fellow nerds on here, hehe.

I'm going to grad school for genetic counseling and as part of one of my classes we have to do a "self-help" presentation...something that relaxes us when we have a stressful day at school or in clinic.  I decided to make potholders with DNA fabric (since my classmates will all think it is the coolest thing ever, lol) to show my new-found love of quilting.  This was also my secret way of practicing my binding skills, which still need work after 8 potholders!  They are all slightly different so I'm going to let my classmates pick which one they like the best and then let them take a stab at machine quilting their potholder (I'm bringing a separate fabric/batting sandwich for practice, and if they don't want to do it, they don't have to!) Anyway, here they are.  C&C welcome Smiley

I think your quilt is great and I'm sorry that you didn't receive a thank you for it.  A few of the moms that I've made stuff for in the past didn't bother with a thank you note but for me looking at their pictures on facebook or ones they sent out on e-mail that focus on the baby but show my gift in the background being used are an ok stand in!  Hopefully you'll see a picture soon!  And keep posting things here, we all appreciate them Smiley

20  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Psychedelic Seasons - 1st completed quilt! (pic heavy) on: April 11, 2010 07:34:57 PM
Just finished my first quilt last week - it was the project from 2 quilting classes at my local shop.  I'm hooked!  This is actually my 2nd quilt but the first one still isn't done yet (it is much larger!)  The title "Psychedelic Seasons" comes from the shapes of a snowflake, flower, leaf, and swimming pool - ha!  There are plenty of mistakes but I learned a lot and I am hoping they can only get better from here.  It is already washed and on its way to my friend as a late Christmas/Birthday present.  Enjoy!
