31  COOKING / Dessert / Grandma likes fondant?!?! Who knew? (pic heavy) on: September 21, 2008 04:16:16 PM
So, this is my first  (marshmallow) fondant cake- a joint effort between me and my friend Whitney. It turned out SO much better than I ever thought it would! Believe it or not, a lot of work goes into these things!!

The spots you see of BRIGHT pink around the bottom of the cake are where I piped pink and brown buttercream and the colors were so off that I just wiped it right back off and got some chocolate fudge icing and piped that instead (my whole family said they looked like hershey kisses) - that looked a TON better, but you can still see where the pink was before.

We used cookie cutters for the pink flowers, the end of a pen cap for the brown dots, and star and round tips for the rest.

Made for my grandmother's 65th birthday gathering and she was BLOWN AWAY! Nobody could believe it was handmade- we don't see fondant much around here unless it's on a wedding cake!

I used a modified boxed cake recipe, using a can of sprite and a box of vanilla pudding to make it super moist. Tasted better than it looked!

Let me know what you think!

32  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Sweet little dinosaur purse w/ bag sticks! on: September 12, 2008 04:06:49 AM
This purse means a lot to me, as my grandmother and I crafted it out of a pattern from an apron. Happy happy! It's the same dark denim used in my zebra print purse, and I've got plenty left so you'll probably be seeing a lot of it...lol

The lining is coincidentally the same lining as my other purse, a tan-ish canvas. Let me know what you think!

33  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Red zebra print w/ button and bow! on: September 12, 2008 04:03:50 AM
Cheesy I'm kind of proud of this, even though there were a lot of things I would have done differently now that I look back. I spent most of today doing it. My sweet husband even helped me turn the handles with his long man-fingers! That was a two-person job, seriously. And much much ironing. And opinions/constructive criticism is extremely welcome! My first purse created without any kind of pattern.

(dirty mirror...sorry)
34  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Neon wallet....thanks to lolo! on: September 10, 2008 09:38:12 PM
I used lolo's tutorial for fabric bifold wallet to make this. It's not nearly as well-made as hers (thanks to my love for interfacing...was far too thick...)

Made of an old pillow from a thrift store and leftovers from my grandma.

35  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / My first things sewn-ever!! on: September 10, 2008 09:34:05 PM
So, I was at my grandmother's house and was digging through all her crafty-things. I came across an old bag with all the makings of three pillows in it. My mom had picked them out and never got a chance to make them...one each for me, my brother and sister.

My mom died 8 years ago and to find something like that still in the bag with receipts...it was insane. I cried. And then I put together the pillows.

I know they're not that well made, but I'm still REALLY attached to them. I'm going to embroider a message on some cloth and tell the story to my brother and sister, probably attaching it with some ribbon to the pillow. I plan on giving them as christmas gifts.

36  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Boston terrier reverse applique! on: September 10, 2008 09:18:44 PM
This is my first clothing item EVER, so it's a little rough..but I still love it!!

(ignore the nasty mirror in that one...)

My sweet little inspiration for this, Melvin!!

(it's done on an old Gap shirt that I never wore before...there was nothing wrong with it, it was just plain... and the grey parts were from an old workshirt that I have about 10 more of to do SOMETHING with)
