1  A nursery for our baby girl! in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by Melvinator on: April 05, 2010 07:38:26 AM

So I finally almost finished it! I need to put some scrapbook paper over the bins that are under the changing table and recover the bottom cushion of the glider...but I feel like I've tackled a lot in here Smiley It used to be cloud wallpaper with Spiderman stickers ALL OVER. We had to put textured paint-able wallpaper over that icky stuff.

My dad cut the letters out for me using a font I found online and I stained them mahogany to match the furniture. All of the pictures on the wall are sea creatures that I drew with Prismacolor pencils and micron pens.

Hope you like it! Comments/criticisms?

2  Modified Amy Butler Diaper bag take 2! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Melvinator on: March 18, 2010 04:56:07 PM
So I made one of these previously in a different fabric (https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=337929.msg3910202#msg3910202) and a friend liked it enough to want one as a baby shower gift.

We went to Hobby Lobby together and she picked out the fabrics- this is what I ended up with. I feel like I learned a lot from the first bag and the finished product here is a lot more "finished" than with mine. But hey, I'm gonna be the one carrying mine so it doesn't matter as much, right? Tongue

I used a stiffer interfacing than I did with my other bag and I think it really helped the look of the bag. Plus, this one has shorter straps (a total accident, but these actually stand on their own and don't just flop down when you sit the bag down) and stands a bit better on its own. I also added a cell phone pocket to the inside since she requested it (made me a little nervous...but I did alright, don't you think?)

Bag Front (that's actually a brown fabric yo-yo on there but I couldn't get the lighting to cooperate at all. Just use your imagination  Wink )

Cell phone pocket (and it's not actually sideways..I just forgot to rotate the picture Tongue )

3  Molly the crippled octopus in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by Melvinator on: February 13, 2010 11:22:29 PM
So I drew this to maybe go in our baby girl's nursery. I'm still completely on the fence about everything in there- the only thing I know is that I have to make pretty much everything that will go in the room due to money issues.

I used cheap acrylic paint on a cotton ball with water to do the background. Molly and the bubbles are cut out of a separate sheet of paper and I used foam tape to kind of give a 3d effect. Of course you can't see that with crappy photobooth photos...but I'll add some after I put it in a frame Smiley

Done in acrylic paint, prismacolor pencils, prismacolor markers and micron pens.

...and she's missing a leg Wink

This is the first thing I've done like this...I'd love some comments/criticism!

4  Modified Amy Butler Modern Diaper Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Melvinator on: February 12, 2010 05:42:25 PM
So I FINALLY finished this today...I haven't done a lot of work with patterns and this one had like 25 steps, each step having 4 or 5 bullets underneath. I'm really happy with how it turned out and hope to get a lot of use out of it when our baby girl arrives (in early May! I can't waiiitttt!!!)

This bag would have been HUGE if I hadn't used the adjustments here:

On to the pictures!

Close up of the front closure (the pattern called for a magnetic snap, but I had velcro on hand so I improvised. It closes really easily and I added the button for decoration)

With flash

Without flash

Interior without flash. There are 2 bottle pockets and 4 bigger pockets.

Inside with flash

And my crazy but sweet husband modeling the bag for me (and you!) Grin

Comments and constructive criticism totally appreciated!

5  My crafty kitchen in orange! in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by Melvinator on: February 11, 2010 02:01:07 PM
So we bought our house in September and the kitchen was HORRID. I mean, plastic ivy everywhere, hideous floral wallpaper and random dusty birdhouses sitting around?! C'mon people.

So I decided it needed to be my favorite color- ORANGE! I put up a kind of paintable textured wallpaper (you can't really tell in the pictures though) because underneath that hideous floral wallpaper was some hideous brown wood paneling. I just didn't trust myself to pick off all the wallpaper just to have to look at the dark paneling. I think the orange really brightened it up and now I'm happy to be in the kitchen for more than a few minutes at a time Cheesy My dad helped cut and put up the chair rail, I thought it would add a little something to the room.

If you've ever swapped with me, you're likely to see something you made me in here Smiley And if it's not here, it's in the craft room that I'll be posting whenever I finally get the finishing touches up. I love my swap partners!

This is the only "full" wall in the kitchen, the rest are covered in cabinets and closets and refrigerators Tongue I painted the matching paintings because I didn't think I could find anything else I would like as much in stores. And money is really tight, after all. The teacup curtains were found at Salvation Army for a few bucks and I couldn't pass them up. Too cute! I eventually want to get some small tables to put on either side of the window so that wall doesn't look so empty.

Close up of the paintings

This is our little coat rack. The previous owner left it, but it had wallpaper (yeah...ick...) as the background and was just plain ugly. So I attacked it with paint and some of my favorite fabric from my stash.

I made a plastic bag holder out of the same fabric. Those things really come in handy!

A view of one of the long sides of the kitchen. I REALLY want to replace the cabinet hardware but it just isn't in the budget right now. In a few years we'll probably replace the dingy floors and the countertops (they're actually in good shape, but I'm just not a fan of hunter green in my orange kitchen)

The stove.

Microwave and pantry and a sneak peek of the dining room (mustard yellow and black! it's not quite done though.) We've always lacked counter space and cabinet space in previous places (apartment and rental home) so this kitchen is pretty much what sold us on this house.

The other side of the kitchen. I really want to paint those canisters but have no idea how to go about it...they're ceramic and have already been glazed. Ideas?

Our little bar and the closet that the washer and dryer are in. Note the amazing art quilt!

Sorry for being so long-winded, but I really <3 my kitchen now!

6  Re: IYP 14 gallery of fabulousness!! in The Swap Gallery by Melvinator on: December 22, 2009 03:39:14 PM
Belladune and I decided to swap for one medium item and one small ornament- man, did she spoil me! I love absolutely everything!

Funny story- Belladune sent the package in an Infamil formula box- I'm pregnant so I just thought it was some company sending me a sample! Upon closer inspection I realized what it was and ran inside to tear it open!

She packaged everything with little hand cut paper snowflakes that I wasn't able to get a picture of, but they were so sweet!

Instead of one ornament, she sent a set of 3! These are so cute! My camera didn't do them justice- they're a lovely green with some green glittery accents and sliver beads sewn on, as well as some red felt with some seed beads sewn on. Gorgeous! I'll cherish them forever.

Action shot of one of the ornaments

She sent this gorgeous tea wallet too, which I love so much it will probably get used as a credit card/other card holder!

Inside view of the lovely fabrics on the tea wallet

She noticed a little Alice in Wonderland love on my wists, so she made me this gorgeous felted pincushion. Those little pins? Yeah, handmade awesome shrinky dink pins that are Alice-related!

Last but not least: an amazing camera case! I requested one and just thought it would be sewn or something like that- but not from the queen of fiber! This thing is amazing and one of my favorite swap items ever. She got my taste spot on, especially with the reddish orange tones. And the button on the front is the closure- the flower is sewn onto the front flap. <3 it!

Inside view of the camera case. You can't really see it in the picture, but she thoughtfully added a little pocket on top for memory cards and other things I might need to carry along.

Thank you SO MUCH, Belladune! I'm glad we finally were able to swap!

(side note: I am apparently really dumb when it comes to posting from anything other than Craftster photo hosting- posting these from Flickr literally took me 6 tries)

7  Re: Christmas Stocking Swap 5 *-*-GALLERY-*-* in The Swap Gallery by Melvinator on: November 30, 2009 12:59:42 PM
I think the Thanksgiving holiday is holding everything up. My partner should receive tomorrow!

Your partner received today and is BLOWN AWAY! I was just lounging around the house and hubby opened the door to let the dog out and said "you've got a box out here!"

Yeah, excitement! I tore into that box like nobody's business Smiley and I could smell it before I even opened it!

K, here's what everyone wants and I'll stop my rambling Tongue

We'll start with my favorite. The scarf! All those fabrics make me smile Smiley There are also some baby booties (super cute!) and lavender sachets (!!!!), and an adorable amigurumi teacup.

I was SO hoping for soap...and man did I get it! 2 bars of lavender, one calendula green tea, one shea luxury, and one oats n' honey Cheesy Also in there you'll see amazing Caramel lip balm...that I'm wearing as I type Cheesy and some "Everything salve". That stuff is RICH feeling! I think I'll start putting it on the heels of my feetsies and wearing socks to bed Smiley And the other stuff is my "pregnant lady foot kit"! The top is a lavender scrub, the bottom shea butter, and the tubes are bath salts. The postman must've had an accident, because about 5 of the plastic bottles of salts made it and the others 'sploded in the container. I scooped up every last bit I could though and saved it!

These are some of the purchased things MareMare sent (along with mini stockings she made for hubby and puppy Cheesy) There's an advent calendar, some christmas socks.

More goodies! A tea infuser w/ matching mug, gingerbread cookie mix, delicious cookies, flossers, nummy hot chocolate mix and chai tea

The stocking! I love it! It's so well made! And the bells are that perfect finishing touch  Smiley

Thank you so much, MareMare! I just hope you like what I sent you as much as I love what you sent me!

9  Is this an OK banner? in Selling Crafts on Etsy.com by Melvinator on: August 10, 2009 09:26:42 PM
I've just made an etsy, and haven't put anything in there yet. i really want to have everything ready and up to par for when I start posting things.

I just made this one in Pages, and am downloading the photoshop elements trial to see if I like it (this coming from a graphics major who didn't graduate...i have forgotten nearly everything I learned!) and then I'm going to make it a little "cleaner", so that I can actually use it as a banner without having to take a screenshot of it  Roll Eyes

I'm also looking for a way to make a little "logo" out of part of it to put on business cards. Any ideas?

10  Bird in a cage art quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by Melvinator on: August 09, 2009 04:45:23 PM
This is the first quilted thing I've ever made, and I'm really proud of how it turned out! It was made for my partner, SugarySweet, in the Mini Art Quilt swap. I thought just jumping in and forcing myself to make a quilt would be the only way to keep myself from procrastinating. W.R.O.N.G.!!! I still procrastinated, as I do in most things in my life Sad  I definitely need to work on that.

Anyway, on to what you're actually looking for!
