1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / J&T Challenge 2: All the Marbles on: June 01, 2010 03:46:11 PM
Hope I'm not the only one old enough to remember playing marbles on the sidewalk...

This bracelet is made of assorted round glass beads, and three actual marbles I got at a flea market last year. You'd think that since I normally do seashells, the "summer" theme would have been a gimme - but no. The first thing I thought of was that bag of marbles! This was the motivation I needed to actually try to use them.

Hope you like it!

2  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Crochet Cables on: March 21, 2010 05:55:17 PM
I learned how to make cables a few weeks ago, testing a pattern for a designer. This hat was improvised one afternoon at work, and there are a couple rows I'd do differently (if I'd written anything down) but I wanted to share. I think crochet cables are every bit as cool as knit ones, and far less traumatic if you have to rip back.

Sport weight yarn with an E hook. There are 12 repeats of the... motif? segments? I dunno. I should have increased the row before the cables crossed each other so it wouldn't pull so much, but now I know Wink
3  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Sorta Loaded... on: March 08, 2010 06:38:15 PM
I've been threatening myself with DOOM if I didn't make a loaded charm bracelet. Here it is, at last... it's not as loaded as I had imagined, but I got to a point and liked it.
Scallop shells, with glass beads.

Hope ya like it!
4  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Seashell Stuff on: March 01, 2010 04:24:55 PM
Yeah, I'm posting a few of my things, but I gotta say how much do you love these overloaded charm bracelets? I gotta make one. Anyway...

Moon Snail fragment. I love these with many hearts.

A set with some fun glass beads

Bracelet with some frosted glass and a shark's tooth

I'm off to make myself one of those mega bracelets now!
5  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Seafood Medley - 5 pics on: February 17, 2010 11:01:21 AM
A few new things done lately...
Shell fragment & Agate bead

White shell pieces & glass beads

Lettered Olive shell piece & glass beads - the front...

...and the back.

I'm especially interested in what you all think of the one with the blue & purple bead, where I've pictured the front and the back - I really like this one but would love some other opinions.
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Challenge 1: Nontraditional Colors of the Sea on: February 09, 2010 09:40:48 AM
This bracelet takes its black and gold color scheme from the striped and rippled seashell fragments. The beads are dark gold glass, and I collected all the shell fragments from my favorite beach, Fort Fisher in North Carolina. The wire wrappings are 24g wire and the closure is magnetic.

Thanks for checking it out!
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Long time... on: December 10, 2009 08:00:22 AM
no jewelry... I've been on a knitting kick. But finally got some new stuff done! Just in time for Christmas since none of the yarn stuff I've been working on could possibly be done in time, unless I make everybody LaPush crocheted hats! Anyway...
This is a bangle done on 16g wire, flexy enough so you can adjust the fit but holds its shape.

This chainish bracelet features the largest piece of seaglass I've ever found. I love this one.

And the necklace with assorted shells & stones & stuff, the toggle is the worn-out center of a spiral shell.

So there it is. Back to the knitting now, I'm pretty much out of 24g wire!
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Something Different for me on: September 29, 2009 10:54:36 AM
This is a necklace made by me, of course, but the pottery bead was made by a fellow local crafter. This is the first one I've used. I got three beads and two pendants from him, and I love them! One of the pendants is round with an embossed Nautilus shell. Will post it as soon as it becomes jewelry!

This is more my usual, but I got a new stash of handmade glass beads at my local beadery. Some of them have little bumps, & stripes, etc. This is just the first one, simple and clear.

This is my second shell tree, actually ordered up by a customer who happened to see the first one out on the town!

At first I was bummed because I liked the first one so much better, but there's no way they can ever be even close to the same, so I need to just get over it!
9  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / More Shells Already on: September 19, 2009 06:20:23 PM
Yeah, I got a REALLY good batch last time I went shell hunting and have more stuff done already!

This one is a spiral fragment and a reasonably flat orange jingle shell. Things with these jingle shells make me nervous because they're a bit fragile.

This one is little striped clams. I like this arrangement with them hanging from the bead.

Last but not least, adventures in colored wire. Okay, it's black, so I'm not too adventurous!

But hey, my red cotton cording arrived today, so the adventures in color will continue!
10  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / A Couple New Shells on: September 14, 2009 12:34:14 PM
Here are a few recent seashell adventures... I swear my camera has bad DAYS. One batch of pics will be good, then the next week they come out like you see below. AND these have been shopped/sharpened/brightened and they still look like I took them through plastic wrap! Anyway...

This one is about 1.5 inches long. The fragment has a lot going on so I kept the wrap simple.

This one is such a neat rectangle shape... I get mixed results photographing dark fragments, it seems to make the wire "glow" and look blurry.

This isn't a shell fragment, but my new favorite stone. Lady at the shop said it's Crab Fire Agate.

This is truly an "Oooooh, shells!" post, but if anyone has any thoughts on my furry-wire picture issues, I'd love some advice! Thanks!
