1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: Two Curtain Panels Equals One Medieval Outfit on: August 20, 2009 11:32:49 AM
Thank you! It turns out curtain panels are perfect for this type of outfit. I am already in search of more curtains for an Elizabethan outfit. =)
2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Two Curtain Panels Equals One Medieval Outfit on: August 17, 2009 11:15:25 AM
Hello! I made this medieval outfit recently from two curtain panels I purchased at a thrift store!

My original plans for this outfit had to be altered throughout the construction phase. First, I intended to use the cream striped panel as the main fabric for the corset style top. I soon realized that this wouldnt work. The cream panel is, in fact, a shower curtain! It has a rubber-like backing on the wrong side that wont press cleanly. Plan two was to use green linen from my stash for the main fabric. The linen, while lovely, just didnt go well with the floral fabric that was intended for the skirt. So, the green linen became the lining fabric. At first, I was against using the floral curtain for the main fabric, but now that the whole outfit is completed, I love the look!

Anyway, I used Simplicity 5582 for the corset top and white blouse. I ended up following the pattern directions exactly for View A. These garments came together fairly quickly (once I settled in at my sewing machine and stayed focused, that is!). The skirt was not made using a pattern. I simply measured my waist and doubled that measurement for the width of the rectangular skirt panels. I also measured the length I wanted for the skirt and added two inches. One inch would serve for any straightening up that I needed to do, while the other inch would be folded over to create the elastic waist casing. The nice thing about the curtain panels is that the hem was already finished! The back of the skirt is one panel, while the front has three panels joined together. I absolutely had to add the shower curtain in the middle of the skirt front for some flair.

Im glad that I made this outfit. I learned how to apply eyelets (not hard at all!) and used the new-to-me technique of sewing elastic into the middle of a sleeve using single fold bias tape as a casing (so nice and professional looking!).

You can read more about it at my blog. =)
3  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: 44 Cents Swap Gallery on: June 25, 2009 01:44:41 PM
I received the BEST envelope in the mail today.  Thank you again, loves2experiment!

She sent me awesome note cards, fabulous Amy Butler inchies, and a lovely card wallet.  I love, love, love everything!  I've never heard of inchies before, but now that I know what they are, I suspect that creating them will become my next craft addiction.

Close-up shot of the inchies.  Really, these are great!

Here is the card wallet, opened up and ready to be filled.  LOVE it!  Ironically, I sent her a card wallet as well!  Great minds...haha!

I am so glad you enjoyed everything I sent, loves2experiment!

Wow, I love all of the items that have been sent so far! What creativity! There are so many things I wish I had thought to add as fun extras (i.e. stickers and bookmarks--brilliant!). It's really fun to see what and how much 44 cents will send.

I sent out my swap partner's envelope yesterday.  Now that I'm reading about the troubles some of you are having, I am wondering if the letter will be returned!  I know it's just under an ounce and I'm pretty sure it conforms to the 1/4" thickness rule.  Guess I'll find out soon!  ::keeping fingers crossed::
7  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Wine-themed Gallery on: June 05, 2009 01:36:03 PM
Mambosushi generously volunteered to be my swap angel for this swap.  She sent me the best package ever!  I am so grateful for everything...thank you again, mambo!!

This is the best wine and picnic tote!  A bottle of wine can fit in ALL six of the outer pockets!  I absolutely love the fabric.  A friend of mine even said..."that's so you", haha!

A close-up of the tote.  Mambo put in much time and effort in constructing this.  It really shows in the details!

As if the tote didn't add up to five points of crafting alone, she added a lovely wall hanging that says, "If you don't like the food...have more wine!"  On the hook, there are four glass covers (for lack of a better term).  What a great way to designate and protect the wine glasses!

I also received some fabulous wine glass charms and a pack of cocktail napkins.

Thanks again, mambosushi!  I love everything, and will be put it all to great use!
