1  San Francisco, CA: Pandora's Trunk, Oct 25th, Nov 22nd, Dec 4th in California: North by rachelyra on: October 23, 2008 10:52:15 AM
Pandora's Trunk
Indie Arts and Fashion: sale, salon, and performance!

October 25th, Saturday, from 2-8pm
BUS stop, 135 Dore off Folsom at 10th

free admission
live music
free drinks

As the sun orbits away from the center of our city, keep the chill out of your bones with a brand new warm jacket and a story told by the visionary who made it!  This fall and winter Pandora's Trunk is opening anew, letting loose a wandering group of designers.  Like minstrels or troubadours, they are traveling from venue to venue with trunks and bins loaded full of clothing and secrets in equal measure.  Events this fall will take indie arts to a whole new level, blending fashion runway, storytelling, drag performers, accordionists, chanteuses, clowns, musicians, fine art, functional objects. Indie arts producers will also be demonstrating, interacting, and showing their work.

Engaging performers, live music, free refreshments, indie arts & fashion sale. These shall be our watchwords.  Check out the website to keep up to date on artists, performers, and mayhem.

And while you're at it check the rest of Pandora's winter season:

November 22nd, Saturday, from 1-5pm
Climate Theatre 285 9th @ Folsom
Come and hear the makings of our tale at Cabaret De(con)structiv.  Climate Theatre is giving us a cross between a runway and a cabaret stage.  We'll look inside your pants and tell you where they came from... telling a story using our ideas and our artifacts.

December 4th, Thursday, from 6-11pm
Brava Theatre 2781 24th @ York near Bryant
Watch the magic of our whole splendid story!  We will settle into a luxuriant restored vaudeville theatre, using its gilded proscenium to frame a fully produced fashion design storytale.

i took some pictures of my head.  kind of.  here is one:

and here are the rest:

My dreads are a year and a half old and i try to scrub a bar of soap across my head about once a week, but that's pretty much it.  i think i have it way easy compared to all you folks, with a whole head of these monsters.  my 14 are enough.  I like tying them on top of my head though.

here is a hat I just finished!  I'm very proud of it - it's a new style and i like it a lot.  it's for an HGTV show called That's Clever whose crew will be showing up *tomorrow* (eep!) to prep me for filming the production of this hat.

here are all its component stages.

all those buttons (20 total) were fun to buy but man were they expensive.

Edited to add:

Whew!  It went great!  I was nervous but things seemed to go really smoothly.

What a whirlwind! There were only four of them, two cameras, the sound guy, and the director - the producer ran the B camera. I built a little set in the middle of my living room and pretended to make a hat on it.

It was really fun, although for the first time in my life I was The Talent.

This was a strange experience - right when they showed up, I directed them around a little, Showing them where to put stuff and where to park, but then very quickly & clearly my role was to get out of their way until they were ready for me.

We spent the first part of the day with me and the dog doing laps of the alley on my bike - I can only imagine how ridiculous that part will look. It got tense at the end as we went into overtime but what fun! I can't wait to see it, but I'll have to - spring at the earliest. I'll know in January when it airs.

it exists somewhat in conjecture right now.
here is my back

and a link to a huge-o picture of my compass arm. http://fernworks.net/~rachel/rachel%20009.jpg
i'd like to get a torn parchment edge below it, as if it were actually the compass rose on a map, and incorporate the map into and across my back.  the phoenix would exist like the sea monsters on old maps, facilititating the transition into a map of the sky, which will include the constellation Lyra (my middle name) before turning into a cityscape on my lower back which will include my tramp stamp as a stained-glass window.

lanterns would be cool in the transition from sky to city, as well as tieing in to the look of my chest tattoo.  don't have any good pictures of that online, unfortunately.

i think.  by the time i can afford it all i'll be 80 anyway, though, so no rush.

here is my phoenix bird (and my half-made wedding dress):

i'd advise you get a bird that you like but wait on the lyric.  words are .... well, i guess they're easy to cover up.  you will probably like the bird later but you might feel dumb having song lyrics on in thirty years.

Even more that you guys coming and buying things, I'm excited to showcase my house and things to fellow creative types - so please come on by without pressure!  If you come by, don't be shy to say hi to me - i'd love to meet some crafsters face to face.
