1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Bit o' encouragement for mum on: May 26, 2014 05:38:29 PM
Hey guys!
My mum's new to all this online crafting stuff, and has just started knitting again after 16 years. I'm really proud of her and she seems a bit disappointed in the lack of any comments on her first project on ravelry, a baby cardiagn that's here:

If anyone could go over and maybe post a comment that would be AWESOME.

2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Cat in the Hat Dress on: September 18, 2011 01:07:34 AM
Having come across what I thought to be the most epic fabric ever made, and having a ball coming up, I did what had to be done.... made a cat in the hat dress Smiley
Unfortunately, the ball was a bit of a flop, being filled with really trashed people, so we left early.
Luckily, the day after, there was a street fair (Rugby World Cup is on town) on, so I got to wear it out to there too! It was a brilliant day out. It got many comments walking around town, and seemed to make people smile, so it was a success!  Smiley

The petticoat has a bit of an odd black underneath because the whole dress was made in two days, so we reused a petticoat from another dress.

Made using these instructions:

Photo time!

Comments and constructive criticisms welcomed Smiley

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Similar Sewing Pattern? on: February 09, 2011 05:34:41 PM
I recently fell in love with this dress:

But, none of the sizing is right for me, so I figured I'd make it.
Does anyone know of any similar sewing patterns? Doesn't have to be exact, just similar Smiley

4  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / An unusual Ball Dress on: September 25, 2010 05:41:20 AM
Well, this was made in about June 2009, for a school Ball. I used it again this year. Basically, everyone was going in slinky dresses, and I'm just not good with going with the norm  Tongue
I go to a public school in a rich-ish area, so some girl spent $4000 New Zealand Dollars on her dress. I would have preferred a car....
So, the plan was, make something, and make it cheap. Thus, The dress! $30, plus $20 for the petticoat, which I luckily didn't have to make! The fabric was originally supposed to be a skirt, giving me 1.5m x 1.5m to work with. The pattern was Vogue 8470. So, no following pattern grainlines! It all worked anyway, which was lucky. Now, onto the pictures! Being the one holding the camera, I don't have a great amount, but I do have at least some:

Full shot:

Up close:

It was, originally, a skirt in another post a couple years back, before I re-made it:

Personally, I think it looks better as a dress Smiley
Comments and criticisms welcomed!
Thanks Smiley
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / 50's here I come! ....almost... ( 5 imgs) on: January 01, 2009 10:35:50 PM
Well, after seeing the choices in dresses for this year's school ball, (which isn't till JUNE!), I got bored. it was all not-in-your-face. which definitely wasn't me, so i decided to go for a sort-of 50's swing dress look, ie: circle skirt and petticoat, skirt with slit to show petticoat and this awesome starry stuff i found which will go over the petticoat and be shown through the slit. I'm still gonna do that - in either the red or the blue.

HOWEVER, on my trails around the fabric stores, I found a really awesome fabric, and had to buy it. It was 1/2 price. I was going to only make a skirt, but had enough to make a dress. I'll get to it. I made a 3/4 circle skirt for the bottom, which is all I've done so far, which i think is pretty good for 3 am.-

I tried making bodices via guess 'n' check,in practice fabric, because I'm lazy + broke, but gave up and bought this pattern for NZ$3

It's 10cm too small round the bust, (97cm, I'm 107), so I'll have to re-size it, but it's the exact shape in the bodice I was looking for ( without armband thingys.) Plus, it helps me out because now i have a bodice pattern for the ball dress. YES!! Phew, that's my rant over! When I get up to making my ball-dress I'll post the pictures. PS- buying the petticoat for it. I have a severe hatred of working with tulle...  Wink

All comments and criticism welcomed!

***EDIT*** found a better pattern Smiley

Happy New Year Everybody!
