1  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Totoro hat, for anime lovers on: January 12, 2014 10:30:47 AM
...so my friend said "You'll have to crochet a hat for me", and I asked her "Any idea about what kind of hat?"
"a Totoro hat", she answered
So, I accepted easily the order, and started looking around on the web, and saw many Totoro hats. I wasn't looking a pattern, just the idea how to solve the parts of Totoro's face.
This was the result. That's me. The hat has already travelled from Argentina to Mexico, and I knew that was a success, specially in the subway  Cheesy

2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Beatles pillow on: December 25, 2013 10:35:03 AM
Hi, everybody

I had a piece of fabric, not very good but with this interesting Beatle print on it. I took a part with the Four to make of it the central part of my pillow. I framed it with a black fabric I had, in four pieces. The back part is similar, with no zipper, but a slit to slide the pillow

I gave it to my brother, who liked it very much Smiley

this is how I made it

Back part with the opening, then it's just sewing all around

3  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / I love the skirt Tabatha is wearing here but... how is it? on: August 01, 2013 07:25:26 AM
Hello, dears

well, I've been looking in internet for a better picture of this skirt, because I love it. Of course, with Tabatha's body is easy that anything fits fine, but anyway, I'd like to try making the skirt for me.
Can someone help me finding a better picture? maybe the original skirt. If not, could we try to imagine how is the back side? (the one that is not possible to see, the front is not difficult)
thanks a lot!

4  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Fidor, the poddle...or "I'm sick, and sick of being in bed!" xD on: July 02, 2011 04:13:11 PM
Last weekend I was still ill, so I had to rest in bed. I was bored, nothing interesting on tv. My lovely poddle, Mouny, was almost all the time with me, he's so nice and cute!
then I thought about trying to honor him by a poddle amurugumi. The problem was that I had no pattern. But a lot of time. So I started trying. Failing. Trying again, and this was the result. I'm happy with it.  Grin

the picture is bad, but you'll get the idea

the bad thing about having worked without pattern is that I cannot explain it for newbbies  Undecided
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Showing my back... but just a little on: April 22, 2009 12:07:57 PM
So, this time I didn't copy the design. It's by me! oh well, the pattern has many classic pieces of course
I had this  nice fabric that my co-worker gave to me. Not too much fabric, that was why I had to cut more pieces than firstly I thought.
As I pretended to use the dress for going to work (so I could show to my co-worker in what I used the fabric), the back collar was no so pronounced but it's the same style than for fancy dresses, I don't know the English expression, in Spanish we call it "buche de pavo", maybe if someone can help me with that?

and it looks like this from front:

6  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / My own version of a Ralph Lauren skirt on: April 22, 2009 11:57:16 AM
this is the second time that I tried this skirt, unlucky as the first time was 2 years ago the link is not available anymore, I kept pictures but posting here is not allowed...
so, here you have my version and believe is quite similar, just the fabric is not the right one

and those days I was around 7 kilos heavier  Undecided

if someone find it interesting, I took pictures of every step  Grin
but I'm not sure if I'd be able to explain the steps, as English is not my language and sewing has so many new words for me!
7  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Taken from the Past... on: January 26, 2009 10:09:14 AM
Hi, dear people!
well, all this started because I need new clothes, as I'm 6kg fatter than the previous season  Cry

the, as many of us, I have some pieces of fabric, just waiting for a project.
I took a kind of silk (I remember it was quite cheap at that moment), and decided i wanted a new dress. But, what kind of dress?
then I went to a book my first sewing teacher let me photocopy a couple of years ago, a very old book with lovely designs that in fact I'm seeing right now on sale!
and I chose this one:

The instructions are in Spanish, so some here will be able to read them, mostly not
anyway the important part is to know how to make a bodice and a skirt basical pattern. As you see, the skirt is not cut following the thread, but bias ("al bies" please some Spanish help, bias was the best word I found for this! I check the list in here also!). And the detail on top is that the bust dart  dissapear when we cut right there...  Wink
I changed the collar and the sleeves. This last because there was not fabric enough... it was only 1.5x1.5 mts, that 's why I was not able to respect the design with lines... I had to cut the pattern in more pieces at the back, in order to have fabric for those parts also.
Well, here you have the result!

sorry for the sad face, I had a bad day, that's exactly why I was sewing, it helps me a lot.  Undecided
as you see, I not only respected the original draw adding the black ribbon, but the ribbon helped to make less evident that the print lines are not matching...  Tongue

In my version the bodice is shorter than in the book, because of my belly: it would be more noticeable if longer, so I shortened it.

I finished hem, ribbon, short japanese sleeve, collar, by hand, something that I really enjoy, it's relaxing.

Hope you like it, and maybe try it, I think it's a nice project for a beginner looking for something less easy but not hard to do  Grin

9  CLOTHING / Designer Clothing Homage / My version from a kimono by Trina Turk on: January 07, 2009 10:26:41 AM
hi, dears!
I'm sharing with you my last project. I finished it last weekend. Unlucky, I started around 14 months ago! why unlucky? because: I got a mess with the pattern (I forgot why I cut there and there!), I had cut BAD the fabric, I got 6 kilos fatter from there, then I have to introduce some changes to be able of using it! not all the changes were good...  Undecided
I cannot provide a link of the picture where I found the original (it was a Nordstrom.com) because this happened in 2007, and it's not on line anymore.
Anyway, I still think that sharing it could be worth  Grin
