1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Need some advice on adding a lining to some shirts on: September 29, 2010 12:16:32 PM
Hi Guys!!! Grin
I need some advice/Help. I bought these 2 shirts on the clearance rack at Macy's and I adore them. EXCEPT for the fact that they are completely see through!! I wore both with an undershirt underneath and it just looked messy.  I want a permanent solution! So how should I go about putting a lining in? I'm really lost as to where to start. Should I just get some jersey knit and tack it to the sides and top of the shirts? or should I try and get some of the same material as the shirt and leave it draped on the inside? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

This second shirt has a small piece of fabric, I guess to cover your boobs if your wearing it without a bra.. but it's still completely sheer. Should I remove this? or just add onto the bottom of it? Huh
2  UNITED STATES / Hawaii / Just Moved to Kauai! on: August 01, 2010 02:47:46 PM
My name is Andy! I just recently relocated to Kauai, Hawaii with my Boyfriend on June 1st. I am looking to make new friends who have the same interests as me! I like to Quilt, Scrapbook, and I've been looking into card making (haven't made the jump yet though.. hehe) I wanted to know if there were any good craft stores here also. I went to the ace hardware and craft store and they aren't so bad. But I was wondering if there were any other good craft stores here. Google says there's a place called "Lu's Crafts" in Waimea. Has anyone ever been? It's about 40 minutes from where I live, so I want to make sure it's going to be worth the trip before I head up there. Let me know!!!

Loving Hawaii!!!
3  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Old Check books? on: April 02, 2010 11:53:35 PM
I just closed my checking account with TD Bank (worst bank ever.. don't recommend them.. lol) Anyhow, I have about 5 or 6 brand new check books that have Disney designs on them. They're really cute and I don't want to get rid of them.. They also have personal information on them...obviously (like my license # & home address) I really don't want to end up shredding them.. I saw online "to do lists" but I feel like I wouldn't use them like that. and if I just absent-minded-ly throw them out they still have personal info on them.. Any Ideas?  Huh
4  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Diaper Monkey **Now with Tutorial** on: March 28, 2010 12:32:45 AM
I was invited to a baby shower by a girl at work, unfortunately I was unable to go. I saw a monkey made out of diapers on here a while back and fell absolutely in love!!! I tried my hand at it and I think it came out pretty cute. I decided to leave it on her desk at work Friday before her shower to surprise her! I was please to find out that they used at as a center piece for the gift table at the shower!  Although, there were some people at the shower/work who mistook it for a cow  Cry
This is the little guy sitting on my couch!

On her desk at work..

His diaper..

For the Diaper Monkey  you will need:
About 30 diapers of your choice (stay away from the blanket soft diapers... See post above)
About 4 wire hangers
Scuncii clear elastic bands (you can get them in the hair brush aisle at k*mart... I used the package that had two sizes in it... I used the bigger sizes for the body and the smaller sizes for the smaller rolled diapers)
4 pairs of baby socks
2 binkies
2 bibs
2 diaper pins
1 washcloth (for the diaper)
Colored Play rings (sorry dont know official name)
Paper White, Black & Blue (or Pink for a girl)
Small Monkey Toy
Extra bag of diapers
FYI: Most of these items I picked up at K*mart. They had a pretty good selection of monkey items. At the time I was living in Guam so that was really my only option anyway. Also, I picked up the socks at Ross; it was a lot cheaper there they had a 5 pack of baby socks so I lucked out! It never hurts to check out places like that to save yourself some $$$.

1.)Start off by forming your wire hangers. I curved mine into a U shape so that it would form both arms and both legs. Start rolling your diapers and threading them on. (dont open the diapers, just roll them from either top to bottom or bottom to top) I think by the time I was finished I had about 11 diapers threaded onto my wire. You want an uneven number of diapers on the wire.  (you also want to do this for a tail.. I wasnt able to figure out how to attach the tail to the body  Undecided)

2.) Next take 2 diapers and open them. Place them over the center diaper on each wire.
3.) Next youre going to take one wire and place it above the other wire. The tops of the diapers should be top to top, next insert the diapers into one another.

4.)   Now youre going to take another diaper and open it. Wrap it around the center of both diapers. I think I did this twice or even 3 times, to make the body look like the right shape. Take your larger elastic bands and put them around the body.

5.)   Okay now lets set that aside and work on the head. Take out 3 more diapers. Lay two of them on top of each other.  Take the 3rd diaper and roll it (like you did for the arms and legs) stick it inside the top diaper at the bottom. This is to make the nose & mouth look like a monkeys (sticking out) Now take a large elastic and put it around the two diapers where the snout part should start.

6.) Start decorating the head. Cut out eyes, a nose and place socks for ears. For the sock ears, I took a piece of thin cardboard and folded it in half and placed a piece in each ear. I took an elastic band and put it at the bottom of the ear so they would stay. I formed the socks so it looked like he had little wrinkles in his ear. I placed them in between the two diapers. I honestly dont remember how I got it to stay. I did a lot of playing around with the elastic bands. (sorry!) Take your binkie next. I wrapped an elastic band over the nipple part of the binkie. I took another elastic band and attached it to the one on the nipple (like a knot). Then I took the attached band and wrapped it around the bottom diaper. I tried to do it up on the head though so that you couldnt tell it was attached.  To attach the head I took another piece of wire and slid it up through the rubber band that made the snout and placed it in the diapers that were wrapped around the body. (See step 4)

7.) See Photo #7

8.) Now, this is the fun part. Take your socks and place over the hands & Feet of the monkey. Also on the end of his tail. I put a bib around his neck. Place his little stuff animal under his arm. I took his colored play rings and attached them to each other. With the leftover stuff I put it in the rings.. the other binkie, the other pair of socks, and the other bib. Then I set him on her desk on top of a new bag of diapers. (just in case she didnt want to use the ones to make the monkey)

I hope I didnt leave anything out or confuse anyone, if you have any problems or questions, PM me and Ill help you the best I can. Oh and sorry about how long it took to do a tute! I think Ill be making another one of these guys soon, so when I do Ill take pictures for even better detail. Good luck all!
5  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Scrapbooking: Discussion and Questions / Japanese Punches & The creation of a paper Cherry Blossom Tree on: February 21, 2010 12:26:53 AM
Hey guys!
I've decided that I'm going to scrapbook my 1 month trip to Japan. I've gone through all my things and I have everything in order. I have LOTS of good ideas for my scrapbook.... I would REALLY LOVE LOVE LOVE to make a Paper Cherry Blossom Tree to take up one of the pages. The only thing is.. is that my drawing skills are definitely lacking. Any ideas as to how to create this or trace it from somewhere?? I also need the cherry blossoms too. I have cute pink paper, but I just don't know where to begin... I love this idea and I think it'll turn out really cute.

Also, a friend of mine has a paper punch in the shape of the "Good Luck" character in Japanese. Now it doesn't have to say good luck, but I've searched the internet for the last hour and a half and I've had no luck. I came across one in amazon, that means "I Love You" but it said the item was unavailable. Any suggestions as to where I can get something like this? Even die cuts would be okay!!! Let me know! Thanks for your input!~

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Glass Ball Ornaments... Need help with top part! take a look! Img Heavy! on: February 20, 2010 12:11:59 AM
Hey guys!!!
Okay so I went to the craft store today in search of scrap booking stuff. Well I came home with glass ball ornaments with an idea in mind. I live in Guam, so my seashell collection keeps growing and growing every time we go to the beach. I decided hey, what a cute Idea for my seashells!!! I have a few questions though..
1.) Did I put two much sand/seashells in or do they look okay?
2.) I feel like they're missing something. Like maybe I should find some Guam Trinkets to put inside to show that it's all Guam in there. Or maybe rub-on's or do you think that'd be gaudy looking?
3.) How can I adhere the top piece where you hang it from? Because it's bottom-heavy and It would definitely fall if it were placed on a tree. Hot glue or crazy glue? or some other suggestion please! Let me know!
Thanks for looking and your input..   Grin

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Snowflake Garland.. Thanks Paperella! on: December 04, 2009 09:18:15 PM
Hello Fellow Crafters!
First off, I have to give complete credit to Paperella for her beautiful Snowflake garland design. I am currently residing in Guam with my military BF and we have NO Christmas decorations. Cry Things can be expensive here, so I have to be resourceful and make my own. I thought this was a good start. I was able to find really cute snowflake sequins and I used ribbon with wire instead. Which worked out pretty well. Now I just have to find a better place to hang them.
I <3 them though!!!! SO PRETTY! Thanks again Paperella!

Sorry this one is sideways, I couldn't figure out how to turn it!  Tongue

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Need Help finding stiffened felt online!! pleasee! on: December 01, 2009 07:04:24 PM
On the occasions and holidays board, I saw a craft under the winter section that I decided that I'm going to do. Although, living in Guam, my resources are VERY limited. Cry I traveled to the only craft store on island (Ben Franklin crafts, a mish mosh of everything, but they aren't consistent with orders). I was surprised to find that they had everything I needed, BUT not enough white stiffened felt. I was only able to get 4 pieces and they can't special order.  Angry I tried other places on island without any luck. So, with that being said I have been searching the internet for the last hour trying to find somewhere that has just white stiffened felt. The brand of Stiffened felt that I was able to pick up 4 pieces of is Darice Felties 9in X 12in X 3mm.. UPC: 0 82676 67629 1 Which doesn't have to be exact, but I kind of wanted the same brand so that the white would be the same color white you know? I was wondering is anyone else would have luck searching this out for me. I want about 20 pieces that way I can make a couple.. Oh and they have to ship to Guam, but I can make sure of that. Any of your help would be fantastic. Thanks my fellow craftsters!!!

BTW: The project I'm doing is the Snowflake Garland. My BF and I aren't putting up a christmas tree this year so I'm trying to be resourceful and create my own holiday decorations.  Tongue
