141  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / A Clockwork Orange Alex(z) Box! on: January 30, 2009 05:46:09 PM
I didn't know where to post this, so I guess I'll put 'er here!

My brother wrapped all my presents in these cool boxes that I could reuse because he knows how much crap I have to store, and how much I like decorating them. (Such a good bro:))

So I have the outsides of a couple of them done and I thought I would share. I just used some scrapbooking paper, ribbon, and then I drew some images in sharpie, water-colored them, cut them out and glued 'em on! I then mod podged the entire boxes to seal them and give them shine. I like 'em and one holds all my ribbon, and one holds all my miscellaneous little junk!

Here is the first one:

I love A Clockwork Orange, and my art is known for it's cutesy skeletons so I decided to combine them. My name is Alexz, so I put it on there to make it a little more personal and have a double meaning, even though his name is not spelled with a Z. It even opens on the opposite side for left-handed convenience! Wink

The second one is a little ode to my favorite artist, Jimmy Pickering:

142  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / My mini Nightmare tree! on: November 19, 2008 02:09:15 AM
Hi! I posted this tree on the Gothic/Emo tree thread, but I thought I would give it its own thread. As mentioned in the other message, it has had a bit of a makeover, and as soon as it my mom sends it to me from home and I have it set up in my dorm room again, I will post new pics featuring the redos.

It is now much blacker, much shinier, has a pumpkin base and pumpkinhead angel, and pumpkin blinking lights.  Cheesy

144  HOME SWEET HOME / Interior Decorating: Completed Projects / EDIT- Updated Skeleton, Zombie Music Themed Dorm Room! :) on: October 13, 2008 03:10:45 AM
Hi there! Well, I have since added some stuff to my dorm room, but overall it has not changed that much since these pictures.

Of course, living in a dorm room, I have limited options in what I can do since the furniture is bolted to the walls and there are so many rules like no nails or tacks in the walls or stuff like that. We are also given a limit of how much we can cover the walls, and you can not have more than 50% of any wall covered. So there went my starch and material wallpaper idea!

But given the circumstances, I think I did pretty well. Sorry for the low quality on some of the pics, my camera is seeing its last days, unfortunately.Sad

Hope you like my room!

I added some new photos of things I changed or added! It's not much, but I hope you like it!

145  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Skelanimals, Edward Scissorhands and Tragic Toys Display Cases on: September 23, 2008 08:14:56 PM
Hi there! I am not sure if this is the proper place to post these, but oh well!

I live in a TINY dorm room, and I have very little room to have just extra stuff lying around. But I wanted a way to diplay all my favorite things and give my room some personality. So I made these display cases for the room out of cardboard boxes from Walmart, scrapbooking paper, and ribbon. I hope you guys like them!

Edward Scissorhands

Tim Burton's Tragic Toys...(This one is not completed yet; I have added more things and more toys so I will post updated pics when I get some.  Cheesy )
146  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Nintendo Paintings on: August 07, 2008 12:57:13 PM
My boyfriend's nieces LOVE Nintendo, as do I, so they each picked out a character for me to paint for them. I only have three done so far, but here they are. I still have a Mario, a Yoshi, and a Peach to do.

147  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Rich vs. Poor (Collage) on: August 07, 2008 12:54:30 PM

Collage made out of magazine ads on illustration board.

For my class we had to demonstrate two opposites, using only black and white images from magazines.

My interpretation:

Matisyahu; "Altar of Earth"

One pair of eyes; but see two different things
One person cries while the other one sings
Walk around like everybody owes you something
Take what you got, thank God for all that life brings
The poor man has it all but not content with anything
While the rich man's hands are empty but he's sitting like a king

The woman on the left represents "Poor."
The background is composed of luxurious items like jewelery, cars, etc.
I made her look like a statue, because though she may be beautiful and have a lot of money, she is lonely and cold and stiff like a statue. Her heart is beating, but it's tore apart because being too concerned with exterior things, she has no real love in her life.

The second picture on the right represents "Rich."
The background is also made up of luxurious items but they have been cut to be unrecognizable because those kind of things become less important to you if you have meaning in your life. The heart is two hearts that have come together. Two separate lives sewn into one. They may not have money, but they are rich because they have love.
148  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Little Black Box...acrylic painting and mixed media on: August 07, 2008 12:46:48 PM

Mixed Media and Acrylic on Canvas

This is the statement with it at the show:

"He always says my mind is like a little black box that he will never be able to see into or fully understand. If only he knew that he is the sole motivation for everything that comes from it."

My boyfriend is a psychology major and he always jokes that he can understand everything but his own girlfriend. I love him to death, so I made this for him for Valentine's day.

It's also an ode to my favorite artists...you'll see some Jimmy Pickering and Tim Burton and others.
149  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / First post in over 3 years! Please be gentle! on: August 07, 2008 12:36:48 PM
Okay, so three years ago, I posted a table I had painted of The Nightmare Before Christmas cover and you guys all seemed to like it. Unfortunately, shortly after that I had some stuff going on and I had some hard things to deal with and I fell out of this world after only one post.  Sad

Well, after a long rough journey I am back with a vengeance and I am in art school, so I would like to see what you guys think of my stuff! Please be honest but gentle; I am going to post a few things for now. Smiley

Sorry the pictures are so horrible. I have not had a chance to take professional photos yet, but these first two paintings I entered into our county fair and they both took first place! Now they get to be entered into the State Fair. I doubt they will win anything at that level, but it's exciting to have my art seen in state event!  Cheesy

This was inspried by the song "Blood Brothers" by Iron Maiden.

My dog died a month ago after 13 years of friendship, and I miss her more than anything. She was a chocolate lab and her name was Coco. She was the best friend I ever knew.

Random Stuff from this year.
