1  Felt Name Book for my niece in Needlework: Completed Projects by IRShannon on: December 17, 2016 02:35:36 PM
Aside from dabbling a little bit with cross stitch a few years back, I haven't done a lot of needle work. But after seeing so many awesome name books here on Craftster, I decided to jump in with both feet and make a name book for my niece for christmas this year.

I owe a lot of ideas and inspiration to a number of posts on this site, including but not limited too:

My niece's bedroom is all underwater theme, so I decided to make each letter represented by an sea animal! This was maybe not the best approach, as I had to use a few more obscure animals then would maybe be recommended for a 2 year old... Ah well, if anyone has any better ideas of a sea animal that starts with the letter I, I'm all ears.

Anyway here is my completed name book for my niece, Samia Mae!

I hid a couple more clown fish under the anemones tentacles to make it more interactive

Yeah okay this one might be a stretch. For those of your who don't know, Irukandji is one of the most toxic jellyfish in the world! Also one of very few sea animals beginning with the letter I! I used some fun stretchy shiney stuff for the tentacles and some cute fish buttons to make up for the obscurity.

Couldn't find any iridescent fabric for the shell, so I used some tye-dyed felt instead.

After I binded (bound?) all the pages together, I decided to use another piece of felt to make a spine. I think it makes it look a bit cleaner.

Thanks for looking! This was a really fun project, maybe I'll make another one someday! (if my sister decided to have anymore kids!)

2  Sharkfin cupcakes! *not made from actual shark fins* in Dessert by IRShannon on: December 10, 2009 11:43:32 PM
So! I volunteer at the Vancouver Aquarium!
This year for the christmas party, I was told to bring a dessert!
After brain storming/google image searching, I found these:
Rockin', right? And my attempt:

I decided to have a go at modeling chocolate for the fins. (my first time)
I think it went alright, but they definatly cracked... any tips for that?

And the finished cupcakes.
I hope they go over well!
Thanks for looking, and SRSLY any modeling chocolate tips would be greatly appreciated!

3  Vegan Yo Gabba Gabba cupcakes in Vegetarian / Vegan by IRShannon on: May 21, 2009 12:28:46 AM
It was my birthday about a week ago - the big 2-0.
To help myself cope with the heartbreak of growing up, I enlisted my boyfriend to help me make some cupcakes which would help me hold on to my youth.
And, being vegan, they had to be that too.
Thus, vegan yo gabba gabba cupcakes were born.

Sorry about the awful photography (if the pictures even show up...first post y'know)
I have no excuse - I just suck at taking pictures.
Anywho the recipe itself was pretty simple, but they tasted really good.
And although this was my first real cake decorating adventure, I will certainly attempt to do it again some day!
Thanks!, Shannon
