Those look so sweet! Quick tech question - what brand emulsion are you using? It seems like yours allows for very fine detailing.

We use a liquid emulsion that i cannot remember the name of but i have it written down somewhere...  I used a finer mesh - 210 for the outline than the colors, i used a 160 for the 2 colors.

Thanks!! its actually a lot easier than i thought it would be. This is my second semester but my first three color job, but i was doing two color jobs at the end of my first semester. It helps that my school offers it, the idea of doing it at home is a little intimidating. you should definitely give it a try, it opens up a whole new world! I've even made fabric to turn around and make dresses and purses with.
24  COOKING / Dessert / Sugar Skulls for Valentines Day on: June 20, 2010 10:19:14 AM
I know it was a while ago but here are some of the sugar skulls i made for the Valentines day potluck in my office. I paired them with a chocolate cake I also made. I still have two plain ones that I need to decorate. They are the size large skulls the apple is there for size comparison. These ended up being much easier to make than I thought, the only problem I had was taking out enough from the middle of each half. I was really concerned I would take too much out and that would weaken them. Now I know I could have taken out more than I did, they are heavy and solid as rocks once they were completely dry.

After the chocolate cake attacked....

Unfortunately it doesn't look like I have any pictures before the cake attacked but they were nice and clean and white before they were resting on the cake.

In my silk screening class my teacher basically lets me do whatever i want since I have already taken the class. So I decided to do a design I have been thinking about for a while and make up some shirts to sell. That turned into something so much more, it had me doing a photo shoot last weekend and now I'm setting up a selling Etsy and hoping to do something with the 20 plus shirts I 3 color screened as my final last semester.

Screen after being washed out.

Close up of the Mary

Unfortunately the only close up I have was taken with my awful camera phone. I promise her face looks way less scary when its not pixelated.

Me and my lovely models I'm in the middle and the one on the right is a friend from work and the one on the left is a girl I roomed with at FIDM

one of my favorite shirt designs but my teacher was helping me finish the shirts and he off all people didn't put down enough tack spray so its not as even as i would like it to be.

All of the shirts are yellow or white.

Comments and Criticism welcome, thanks for checking it out!!

you should try coin envelopes, you can buy then in a bunch of colors and just seal then add a stamp to mail. a girlfriend of mine just mailed out her magnet save the dates in them and said it worked really well.

Hi, there is a company in Santa Ana, Ca called the Artbar. www.artbar.com and they do something similar to what you are interested in doing. instead of being out of the owner's basement they are are out of a gallery basement but they charge for time and unreusable materiels (i.e. paints) by the hour and "shot". They then also have hundreds of stamps, scraps of papers, inks, rolls of papers, fabric swatches and most importantly space to work.

This may be something you should look at to get an idea of how they use the materials and the services they offer. the owner is very nice and since you don't live in CA may be willing to answer some questions.

hope this helps!
