"It's a search for love"
Back: "My ex bestfriend of 10+ ys lied to the man who is now the true father of her second child. He's a loser and for some reason she'd rather be w/ him than the man she truly loved. She has completely destroyed her life & credit for this guy over the past three years. I would give ANYTHING to have my Teresa back. Instead we just don't talk."

6  Paper Crane Memorial of Love for Simon in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Miss Whitney on: December 15, 2011 12:55:28 AM
"What's with the cranes?", you may ask.

My best friend and boyfriend of over 6 years, Simon, was rushed to the hospital with chest pains on October 2, 2011. He had had an unexpected cardiac event stemming from a genetic bone disease he shares with his family. The emergency open-heart surgery was successful, but as myself and his family became aware that he may never wake from a coma, we asked friends and family to support us by folding cranes; An old Japanese legend says that if 1,000 cranes are folded, the gods will grant you a wish. You can guess what we were hoping for. We had over 1,000 cranes, but we were not granted our wish. My beloved Simon died on October 14, 2011. He was 34.

Although people continue to fold cranes, the bulk of them were entrusted to me. Fighting my urge (fueled by rage and despair) to burn them to ashes, I worked with my mom to find a safe, respectful, and beautiful way to honor Simon and the support everyone gave us during those terrible weeks. We restrung every crane, after hunting for weeks for the appropriate materials to make what we were envisioning a reality.

Each crane was selected for its specific string - some strings are themed and some are random. Each crane is separated by a bead, and each string has a weight at the bottom. The light in the middle is a strand of LED x-mas lights doubled over itself a few times and wired together. The case is 5 feet tall by about 1.5 feet wide and deep. There are 598 paper cranes in the case, and one ceramic one (a gift to me from Simon's sister).

Several strands of cranes were sent to Simon's parents for a memorial they held, and I took 10 with me to work, each stuck over an LED x-mas light which now hangs in my cubicle. Unless someone comes up with something else to do with the remaining cranes, they will be ceremoniously burned at a beach fire this summer.

Thank you for reading. I hope you think it's as beautiful as I do.

ALRIGHT! FINALLY, here are my pictures of my super awesome package from emily_rohr!

The box was all decorated, and each of the gifts were packaged up all neat! Here, you can also see the neato Hoodie-Hoo card for Hoodie Hoo day!

Next, for Hedgehog Day, was this adorable necklace that came with some matching earrings! I think she made the little hedgehog just for me!

For Polar Bear Awareness Day, I got this adorable tote bag that melds adorable cuddly/ferocious polar bears, with my other favorite bear - GLOOMY BEAR!

And, last but most certainly not least, for international pancake day, this apron

It says "I make a mean stack of pancakes", with a mean looking stack of pancakes underneath! I love it so much! My boyfriend does too!

I also got a little cookbook of pancake recipes, for making many mean stacks of pancakes!

THANK YOU SO MUCH Emily! We all loved my package! Here's proof!

OH MY GOSH! I just recieved the MOST WONDERFUL package from EnginerdLisa! It really is spectacular!

I came home for my lunch today to see this funky shaped box at my door.

Inside I found a lovely yoga/healthy card, a Yoga for Weight Loss DVD, and this neato salad container that keeps the dressing in a special container at the top, and then when you want to eat your salad, you spin the thing around and shake it all up! This prevents "soggy salad syndrome!" LOVE IT! OH it has a built in icepack too - how cool it that!

Next, I found this AMAZING lunchbox! First off - IT'S FRICKIN' INSULATED! What?! I know. Awesome. Second, it's nice a roomy for to fit a full lunch + snacks. Third, it had a handle so I don't have to try and smash it in my school bag. Fourth (I could just keep going here), It has both a nifty magnetic closure AND a drawstring one!!!! WHAT?! amazing.

Here it is with the flap closed.

AAAND opened.

And I saved my favorite for last. Lisa made me a yoga mat bag! With an adjustable strap and a drawstring closure! It matches my new lunch box, too! Cheesy

But HO! What is inside this amazing bag? ONLY THE BEST YOGA MAT IN THE WOORRLLDD! it's PURPLE, and BLACK, and SILVER! AND ARGYLE!

I love it so much! The theme of the package was At Home Yoga Kit, because I'm a chicken when it comes to exercise classes. BUT NOW I just want to go and show off all my new stuff! I'm so excited, and I really love everything. Thank you SO much!

Details of swap:
The holiday season is here, and I can already feel the extra pounds creeping on! Let's all get an early start on our New Years Resolutions, and help each other fight off those evil holiday pounds! In this swap, we will craft things to help motivate our partner to lose weight and/or get fit. Some possible crafts are motivational art or jewelry, crafted gym bags or yoga mat slings, inspirational quotes, healthy recipe cookbooks, or a calendar to help track achievements! So many other possibilities! This is going to be so much fun!

As for the specifics:  this is a  five-point swap .  Swap packages can include any number or size of items as long as they add up to at least 5 points:
3 pts = large
2 pts = medium
1 pt = small

Here are the Craftster guidelines for item sizes:
LARGE:  3 or more hours, $30 or more (a shawl, a shirt, a skirt, a set of jewelry with four to five items, a purse)
MEDIUM  = 2 to 3 hours, $10-$30 (a scarf, a simple bag)
SMALL  = less than 2 hours, less than $10 (earrings, a wallet)

These size guidelines are very subjective, so, as always, work with your partner to decide how much to send.  Be sure to agree on the amount of time, money, and effort you want to spend for this swap.    If you or your partner want to make something that requires more time or effort than we usually think of for a large item this point system gives you a little room.  But PLEASE be sure to consult with your partner!

For this swap, you will need to post in the thread once a week. Not only does this help the organizer keep track of what's going on, but it helps build a network to support everyone on their weight loss mission. Failure to post in the thread at least once a week (without prior notification of absence) will be noted in communication feedback.

As per the Craftster Swap Rules, participants who have not sent by 2 weeks after the deadline will be given negative feedback. This will be reversed when you send.
