1  Re: Chinese Zodiac Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by MsBettie on: March 15, 2005 05:13:29 PM
I got my package from Cindylund today. It rocks my world. My sign is metal monkey, so she did a metal (as in Rock and Roll) monkey pillow. My sister is trying to steal it from me because I call her Monkey. Here she is modeling the pillow:

the back is beautiful too! It's a lavender satin broquade

I love the pillow so much. Thank you Cindylund!

2  Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, and Donnie Darko stencils in Stenciling: Completed Projects by MsBettie on: March 13, 2005 11:31:46 PM
My fiance was broken hearted at the news of Hunter S. Thompsons passing, so I made him a shirt to cheer him up. It was on of my first forays into stenciling with freezer paper.

I made the stencil in photoshop.

I also made myself a Donnie Darko shirt. I'm planning on making one that says "Cellar Door", and possibly one that says "Fear. Love."
I fear the latter may be a bit to obsure, though.

As promised, here are the pictures of what I received from Sparky1311:

A gorgeous book of spells (Meredith, did you bind that yourself?)

Inside are random pictures and quotes from my favorite characters

My Scooby Gang vamp fighting kit complete with HAND CARVED (!!!) stake

My new favorite mug. I will unfortunatly not be using it for blood. I'm more of a green and white tea gal.

And the back.

And my Oz inspired earrings. I havent taken them off since I got the package.

I must thank you again, Meredith. This swap could not have been better!

5  Re: flippin sweet swap (sign up CLOSED, send by 3/1/05) in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by MsBettie on: February 19, 2005 11:43:07 PM
My 5 year old sister loves Napoleon Dynamite just as much as the rest of us. She drew a picture for me, and my friend loved it so much that he put it on a shirt. Shelby (my little sis) is totally a future craftsteress!

a close up of the shirt

The picture is Napoleon feeding Tina. It says "eat your food you stupid llama". She spelled it all by herself (except for the word llama)

6  Re: the back of my guitar in Completed Projects by MsBettie on: February 17, 2005 10:11:59 PM
that is GORGEOUS and you've totally inspired me to paint my old guitar, Bessie. ^_^

Just out of curiosity, do you have pictures of the LP you were talking about? I tried googling it, just because it sounded neat and couldn't find anything

this is the back cover of the LP

My favorite Cyndi quote:
"It's a good thing I won, otherwise this tiara would look awful silly"

I've had my guitar for 12 years now. I begged my mom for one for Christmas. We didnt have much money at the time, so she and my grandfather got me one from a pawn shop for $50. I would be lying if I said I took to it right away. I got frustrated and didnt play with it until 5 years later. I learned to (shame of shames) impress a boy. That's when I really fell in love with her. I named her Laquieda because it sounded like a sassy version of BB Kings "Lucille". She is, and always has been missing the high E string. Everytime I try to string it on, the string pops and usually ends up hitting me in the face, so I just went with it. I didnt paint her until about a year ago when i formed my now defunct band. Last Christmas I received a gorgeous black electric bat shaped guitar (I named her Lilith). But Laquieda will always be #1 in my heart.

P.S. Thank you all for your kind words!  Cheesy
P.P.S. Love_me, it was all done freehand with super cheap acrylic paint, and then sprayed with a clear gloss acrylic.

This is Laquieda. She is my baby, so I always want her to look her best  Wink

I got the inspiration from the back of the "She's So Unusual" LP by Cyndi Lauper. For those who don't know, the back cover is the underside image of her white high heels, painted in Starry Night. I've Had the LP since I was 5.

8  Re: Frosted glass tutorial -- How to make your own frosted glassware! in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by MsBettie on: February 16, 2005 11:33:13 PM
A kitchen store in my mall went out of business a while ago, so I got these glasses for 50 cents a piece. I'm thinking of selling them. they all have pairs. I use masking tape and cut out the image freehand with an exacto knife. I've also been etching cheap votive holders from AC Moore

The hurricane glass is my favorite  Cheesy

9  A slight variation on duct tape roses (with tutorial) in Completed Projects by MsBettie on: February 16, 2005 11:18:07 PM
I was very inspired by all the duct tape rose posts lately, and I thought they were the perfect idea for Valentines Day. The only problem is the glue on duct tape seems to irritate my skin. I went to Tar-zjay (Target) and got a multi pack of colored electrical tape and went nuts. I also noticed that the istructions for the duct tape roses leave you with a very cone shaped result, when real roses have more of a bowl shaped bottem. a simple extra fold is all that was needed to remedy that.

After you make the initial fold, you just overlap the exposed flaps.

I only use 13 "petals" per rose. This is the final result.

I also thought they could use some cute leaves, so....

I folded a piece of green tape over a short length of wire and cut it into a leaf shape and attatched it to the finished rose stem.

These are the finished roses that I gave to my fiance:

10  Re: Avatar: Talk about craftiness! in Discussion and Questions by MsBettie on: February 11, 2005 11:28:16 PM
i took a picture of my cocker spaniel lsleeping upside down on my couch, and i photoshoped it into all crazy colors and swirls.this is the original of my little bailey girl. aww.

Crazy Bailey

LOL! I had NO idea what that was! I was going to ask you!

My current avatar is clip art that I hand colored in photoshop, and then added text. I was going for a Rev. Horton Heat psychobilly martini time thing....
I'm doing Hawaiiloves subculture swap and got inspired.
I'll probably change it soon though. I change my avatar as often as i change my socks (which isnt as often as you would think  Wink )
