Wow! The first couple of weeks of this term are bursting with such awesome creativity!

Jenleahlynn - I love your Tim Burton Pets painting!

Moonflame - adorable pocket medic!

Noodlebug - that fruit salad looks totally refreshing, and those glitter shoes are beautiful!

Abeeroad - I absolutely adore your prayer flags. I have been getting into some textile art type stuff myself and I found your work very inspiring for that.

Thank you so much everyone for having us in your thoughts concerning our fur baby that passed on. The support from people like you all does really cushion the blow.

Whistlefish: such a cute scrapbook page!

Plaidpineapple: that weighted blanket looks super comfy I've been meaning to make one for myself.

Challenge: 5th anniversary: 2016 Mirror of Erised
House: Slytherin
Project: style in an instant maxi dress

I have been eye balling this fabric at work for weeks and I finally broke down and bought it. I'm so glad too because I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's so light and airy. It's not my usual style so it gave me something new to expand my fashion horizons. It was super easy as it was that kind of fabric that comes with the smocked top so all I had to do was sew it up the side and hem it so it wasn't under my feet.

Erinaquaheart and I's sweet kitty, Felix, passed away a couple of nights ago. He was 16 and we knew it was coming sooner or later but we obviously we're hoping for later and wish it didn't have to be such a surprise. We're glad it was sudden though. That way he didn't suffer long and we were able to be there with him in the end.

RIP sweet baby kitty.

Challenge: Floo: the moon
House: Slytherin
Project: memorial shrine picture frame

Our kitty Felix had so much light. He had a vibrant personality and was the most empathetic, loving cat I have ever known. So to reflect his light I made a memorial shrine picture frame to keep him in our hearts.

Class: defense against the dark arts
House: Slytherin
Project: baseball pillow
This project was yet another example I had to make for work. It's honestly one of the cutest and well thought out no sew projects I've seen. It fits the class because pillows are comforting and fleece is nice and soft.

I might try a variation of this pillow to keep for myself.

Challenge: Floo: Kyoto
House: Slytherin
Project: Seigaiha inspired doodle

The Japanese culture has some unique and beautiful textile and design motifs that symbolize different things. In my doodle I took inspiration from the Seigaiha or wave motif that is seen a lot in Japanese textiles and folk art.

This pattern symbolizes surges of good luck, power, and resilience. You can see that I used this pattern to inspire the ocean in my drawing below:

Ooh I'm excited about the 5th anniversary challenge!

Class: Apparition
House: Slytherin
Project: pirate cookies
I decorated these cookies as a demonstration in the middle of a busy store so they were crafted in public.

Class: history of magic
House: Slytherin
Project: faux cakes
These cupcakes are actually styrofoam so that they can sit on display for a long period of time BUT the icing is real and I can't lie and say that I didn't take a taste of it from time to time while decorating these. The icing was sweet and buttery reminding me of butter beer.

Challenge: house unity
House: Slytherin
Project: Mendhi cookies
When I teach a class I always like to use it as an excuse to make cookies of my own Smiley what better way to unify friends from different houses than to share a batch of colorful homemade cookies....and don't worry I did not infuse them with a sleeping draft like one particular Gryffindor is known for doing. :p

(This assignment is for the actual decorating not the baking of the cookies. Erinaquaheart was actually kind enough to bake these. She shared her sugar cookie recipe a few terms back but if needed I can post the recipe again)

Class: charms
House: Slytherin
Project: fun and lively monogram modern art painting

I had to make this example for a craft camp I'll be teaching at work and thought it was perfect for this assignment because not only is the painting itself fun and lively but so is the craft camp!

Class: muggle studies
House: Slytherin
Project: "cool" wall sign

This wall sign was super fun to make. It's another project I made as an example for a kids' craft class at work. First I taped off the stripes and painted the canvas. When it dried I pulled off the tape to reveal some nice even stripes. The word is made from yarn but the hidden element is the pipe cleaners the yard is wrapped around in order to give the word a wire structure to make it capable of bending into letters.

Challenge: may detention
House: Slytherin
Project: tunic top

I had the fabric and the pattern for this hanging out for a while and I finally put it together I'm pleased with how it turned out. It's actually supposed to be a dress but I guess the misses pattern was too short for my women's body lol. Anyway, it made a nice top so crisis averted!

Challenge: house pride
House: Slytherin
SPEW: skirt for medical mission to Marshall Islands
Project: green skirt

Challenge: house unity
House: Slytherin
Project: spring flower pens to cheer up those long hours of homework. What a nice thing to unify the houses: a bouquet of flower pens to share around.

Challenge: headmistress challenge: May
House: Slytherin
Project: lots and lots of dinosaur shirts. These were screen printed by hand by me and they took more than three hours and are multiples of the same item

Challenge: February detention
House: Slytherin
Project: pop art valentine card

(The bottom left one)

Challenge: March detention
House: Slytherin
Project: squidbear drawing
My drawing skill is constantly a work in progress and I am constantly challenging myself to solve new problems with drawing and this squidbear is a part of that process

Challenge: April detention
House: Slytherin
Project: horse costume
This fits the assignment because... Well it's a long story... But basically I was coerced into making this horse costume by a person that came up to me at work and asked for help and somehow her asking for my advice turned into to me making it for her??? I have no idea how I let that happen, but I found myself with a bag full of fleece and the directive to make a horse costume for a three year old out of it somehow. Oh and it had to be done by the end of the next day. I definitely felt clowned by this challenge lol. Anyway, after the idea of using a hooded towel tutorial as a spring board came to me in my sleep I was able to come up with this costume in time:

In the end I was pretty proud of what I was able to come up with on the fly like that but I really need to learn to say "no" sometimes.
