1  You like eels, boy? (Mighty Boosh inspired jewellery box) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by oingoboingirl on: August 26, 2009 01:43:45 PM
Like a lot of people, I've recently become obsessed with The Mighty Boosh. a while back when I was first getting into the show I was checking out a swap gallery( https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=260656.10 )and really liked the box made by 2711.

A few months later I finally saw 'Eels', the episode it was a reference to, and it instantly became my absolute FAVORITE episode of the show, so I decided I had to try to make one myself!

That's Elsie, Boy! Why don't you dance with her?

Thanks for looking!

p.s. for anyone interested, here's the clip the idea came from(about 3 minutes into the video): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fgd1LaKQVy4

2  Sugar Skull/Day of the Dead reversible purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by oingoboingirl on: August 13, 2009 06:03:12 PM
I've been needing a new bag, and they just started putting out the halloween fabric at the Beverly's where my sister works. I thought these two would look cute together, so I decided to make a reversible tote based on the one I made for the halloween swap last year. I'm particularly proud of the invisible pockets, though one is definitely more invisible than the other. thanks for looking!

3  Highly Evolved Carnivorous Flatworms!! (costumes) in Completed Projects by oingoboingirl on: May 27, 2009 01:14:13 AM
a friend of mine wrote a hilarious short play recently titled 'Sasquatch J. Hellwig vs. The Evolved Flatworms', and knowing my penchant for ridiculous stuff like this he asked me to design and build some costumes for said flatworms:

I don't have a full body shot of the other one, but this one turned out better anyway:

thanks for looking!

5  Bear Costume!!! (contains plush gore) in Completed Projects by oingoboingirl on: March 29, 2009 12:53:20 PM
I am so happy with how this turned out.

I have a friend named Andy, and for as long as I've known him there's been this inside joke between all of our friends about how he could take down a bear if he wanted to. So when my friend Charlotte and I heard he was going to compete in their school's all-male beauty pageant, we decided to make the joke a reality for his portion of the talent competition!

I've never worked with anyone else on a project like this, but I was amazed at how well we worked together to design and build this thing (Charlotte worked mostly on the head, I did the body)

here's what we had after our first full night of work... (I got two of those brown paws at the dollar tree last year at halloween, but we couldn't find the other one. in the actual fight, the bear wore boxing gloves)

The head was made out of one large box with rounded edges and one smaller box for the muzzle, all covered in brown fur. we covered the eye-hole with black mesh before the fight. The tongue was supposed to get ripped out of the mouth at some point in the fight, but we couldn't find a good way to attach it and the rick-rack we had sewn to it kept falling out while we rehearsed so we just glued it all in.  Sad

However, we didn't think just boxing the bear would be impressive enough, so I developed a big finish to surprise the crowd (and the judges)

pardon the fake blood stain, these pictures were taken after the competition. Tongue

intestines out of dyed piping...

lungs out of pink flannel...

and my favorite, the heart.

Also, the guy in the bear suit is a pretty skinny dude, so we made this fat suit to bulk him up:

It's two big t-shirts sewn together at the bottom and the sleeves, then PACKED with stuffing. It did the job really well.

The whole thing went PERFECTLY, everyone loved it (even though Andy didn't win  Cry)
There's a great video of it on youtube, could someone let me know if posting links to videos is allowed?

6  Oooh, SHOCK TREATMENT!!! (LOTS of pics, a tad risque) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by oingoboingirl on: March 16, 2009 08:52:07 PM

Some of you may be lucky enough to be aware of a film called Shock Treatment; It's a companion film to the Rocky Horror Picture Show that a tragically small number of people have seen.
I am absolutely CRAZY about this movie, and over the last year or so I've gotten several of my friends hooked on it. We all love going to RHPS midnight shows, and when we heard that one of our local theaters had one planned I decided to make Shock Treatment Costumes for us to wear! After a month of watching the movie up to 3 times a day, raiding vintage and thrift stores over and over, endless alterations (the only thing made completely from scratch was my straitjacket), and several desperate phone calls trying to find a craft store with black sequined fabric, this is what I ended up with!

Group shot (sorry for the blurriness)

My twin sister and I as Brad Majors and his long-lost twin, Farley Flavors

Farley Flavors is fairly flattering...

You're not looking at a King, you're looking at an Ace!

Young male intern, tall and handsome...

Hi, Brad, I've just come to tell you how fabulous I am!

Janet Majors with that gorgeous gourmet, Bert Shnick!

We're gonna do it, anyhow, anyhow!

Some reference pictures:

there were midnight shows on Friday and Saturday night that weekend, but none of the ST crew could go on friday. So I decided to wear my favorite costume piece, Bert's Jacket, to the show that night Cheesy Bert's costume is my favorite in the movie, and I spent HOURS altering that jacket (thank god we actually were able to find a yellow frilly shirt in a vintage store, I have no idea what I would have done if we hadn't. $30 well spent)

(I also made my friend Samantha that Rocky costume... I felt a little bad because she's a really sheltered kid who I've totally corrupted with RHPS, but it's what she wanted... not bad for $5 worth of gold lame and an hour's work, IMO)

7  Re: I stuck buttons on my eyes! (Coraline-inspired costume, now with Pictures!) in Halloween Costumes by oingoboingirl on: November 02, 2008 07:47:39 PM
So, I did it!

a practice run, with only one button, using only latex to hold it on ( I also experimented with the idea of having it look like there was a needle stuck through my forehead skin, but didn't go with it for the finished costume)

and here's the whole shebang for the big night. I used the Pince-nez/latex idea, and covered with white makeup.

thanks for all the ideas and support!
acajjou, I'd love to see what you came up with, too.

8  Re: Halloween Swap 2008 Gallery of Spooky Goodness in The Swap Gallery by oingoboingirl on: October 01, 2008 12:08:58 AM
I had a very bad day.
until about a half hour ago when I walked in and saw a big ol' box sitting on the table!

Pupper's package blew my mind, I love this girl.

Sorry all the pictures were taken in my bathroom, the rest of my family is asleep and that was the only room i could use without disturbing someone.

OK, on to the first slice of AWESOME:

Next, a set of spooky labels

The 'Rat Poison' jar has a squishy rat inside of it

And I saved the best for last (I think I actually died a little bit because this is so cool)

It's Vyvyan. And he's a frankenstein.
(I'm guessing most if not all of you have never heard of a TV show called The Young Ones, but it's my ALL-TIME favorite show and one of the best characters is an epic Badass named Vyvyan [see my avatar])

This couldn't have been a more amazing swap package, and it came at the best possible time.
I can't wait til you get your package...  Wink Grin

9  Frankie, the punk-guin (my most badass stuffie yet, PICS!!!!) in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by oingoboingirl on: September 04, 2008 03:31:29 PM
Meet Frankie.

He grew up in the tough part of my sewing basket.

One of his Frankie's friends gave him this tattoo (they were both wasted, so it's a little messed up. The next morning Frankie quit drinking)

However, it would take a heck of a lot more than a crooked tattoo to get him to give up his smokes.

Here you can see where his liberty spikes can be removed/switched around, and a better view of his beak piercing
Frankie will be moving to UC Santa Barbara with my friend Jazmin and her flock of penguins in a few weeks. Normally I would love to keep him, but he intimidates my other stuffed animals.
I mean, will you look at that sneer? The bird is rude.

P.S. Frankie may not need your approval, but I on the other hand sure would appreciate the feedback!

10  Two of my cuter purses... in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by oingoboingirl on: August 30, 2008 09:17:58 PM
I make a lot of bags, but these are the only two I have pictures of at the moment. I should be posting the rest of them soon  Smiley

I had this old shamrock shirt that I never wore, and I had been wanting to experiment with fusible web, and when I spotted the rainbow strap material I put two and two together.

this was made with 2 little girl shirts from the dollar tree, a pair of shoelaces, and a zipper I had leftover from another project.

thanks for looking, comments greatly appreciated!
