1  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / trash to treasure necklie on: August 24, 2009 08:05:59 AM
the other night i was getting ready to go out and really wanted a long necklace. i couldn't find any, so decided to do what any self-respecting craftster does and make one! i dug through my toolbox and strung together all my old band ring practices from my first metals class and voila!

all night i sounded like sleighbells.
2  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / coffee cups revamp on: July 17, 2009 04:35:19 AM
i picked up some blank coffee cups at the thrift store and made some improvements for the last newbie swap.

(i borrowed a few pics from my partner, jl409. hopefully she won't mind.)

3  Archive of Past Craftster Challenge Entries / CHALLENGE 40 ENTRIES / patty smith, paper boy extraordinaire on: July 02, 2009 08:35:29 PM
this was included in my ap drawing portfolio. i was doing a lot of paper-making at the time and incorporating little bits of things into my paper. i figured if i could do it with leaves and stuff, why not a photo. the boy in the picture is my cousin, patrick.

voila: patty smith, the "paper-boy"

the photo is completely inside a piece of hand-made paper, and the back is solid hand-made paper. the drawn additions on top are done in charcoal pencil.

(this is my first contest entry ever, so i hope you guys like it!!)
4  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / crochet casting (with lots of photos) on: June 24, 2009 10:11:53 PM
this was done for my glass casting class.  the assignment was the idea of "storytelling," and i've always loved the idea of telling your family history through quilts; however, my family has never quilted--we've crocheted. so i made some castings of small crochet pieces and incorporated them into a blanket that was all hung on the wall.

some in progress shots:

the details are hard to see but the side facing you is flat and the underside of the casting is an exact duplicate of crocheted yarn.

details of the individual castings on the piece:

the glass is actually clear and the white crochet is just around the edges--the color showing through is from the blanket they're hanging on.

6  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / LADY PARADE on: April 28, 2009 09:00:42 PM

I recently stenciled a shirt for my bike gang, the Lady Parade. We take our name from this marriedtothesea.com comic. (obviously our motto is "hats off!" heh)

apologies for the crappy macbook pictures.
7  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / copper pop-up on: April 19, 2009 12:18:02 AM
i'm finally getting around to photographing all my new work, and i realized i never properly documented my projects from earlier semesters. this was my first project in the metals field, so bear with my tool marks and wonky forming.

the assignment was to take a 6x6 inch piece of copper plate and make a wearable piece without cutting anything off the original piece (piercing, folding, hammering, bending, etc. to transform the plate metal.)
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / dripping rings on: March 20, 2009 08:38:05 AM
here are a few sterling silver cast rings i made recently. a good friend of mine is a photographer, so he's going to help me get some better photos, but i thought i'd put these up for now and see what you all thought.

[EDIT: still no pro. pics yet, but i submitted them to a juried show today. so here's a quick shot of the rings on their display]

9  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / doodles on: February 11, 2009 10:01:26 PM
first of all, i absolutely love doodles. i think they're fantastic. i collect doodles from friends, family, teachers, strangers--anyone. i think you can tell a lot about a person through their doodles. so when i got my first glass assignment (i'm in a glass kilnworking class) and the topic was "drawing" with sheet glass, i knew i wanted to incorporate doodles.

here's what happened:

i sandblasted doodles that other people gave me onto the sheet glass insert for picture frames. i know it's hard to see the images because i intentionally made the drawings difficult to see without getting close and personal with the work.

hope you enjoy!
10  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / "you become what you always were.." on: January 10, 2009 07:35:13 AM
"a very big fish"

i made this fishie for a sculpture class a few semesters ago. the assignment was to take a found object (i used a purse) and extend that object into something else using only planer material (flat paper, cardboard, mat board, etc). aside from the mouth, everything is cardboard and paper grocery bag hot glued together. i hope you like it!

i'm not sure if this is where this post belongs, but it's made of cardboard..so that's paper, right?
