11  Yet another Shirred dress- I can't stop making them! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: October 05, 2009 01:37:02 PM
I saw this fabric at Ikea several months ago and got it, having no idea what to do with it!  Well, I used 1/2 a yard for this dress- only 2.5 more yards to use Smiley

Anyhow, I used it to make another shirred dress for my daughter.  I was out of black ribbon, so I used red for the ties.  I think I actually like it better than if I'd used black because it brings out the bit of red in the fabric.  Anyhow, here it is Smiley  OH!  I did shorten the ribbons a bit after taking the pictures.

12  Kimono Top for my sunshine! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: October 05, 2009 01:31:42 PM
I made this a month or so ago, but I forgot I hadn't posted it!  It's a kimono top.  It ties twice- once on the inside and once on the outside.  It's really easy- the shirt is 3 pieces and then all the bias tape.  I hand made the bias tape, which was the most time consuming part!  I think I'm going to make a few more from flannel with some matching lounge pants to use for pajamas.  I used a tutorial I found online and I can't find the link to it right now.  When I do, I'll post it.

Right when she woke up...

13  Fun Lounge Pants from my husbands old shirt in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: September 28, 2009 11:36:20 AM
I found this great tutorial (http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com/2009/06/recycled-t-shirt-toddler-pants-gauchos.html) recently on Lil Boo Blue's blog (which is super amazing if you've never checked it out!).  It's very easy to follow and also stitches up very quickly.

I made these pants from a old shirt of my husbands we got several years ago.  The "1" was on the back and I cut it out and appliqued it to the leg.  I have several more cut out and ready to be sewn.  These pants are great!

I'd say she's tired of modeling...

14  My 2nd try at the Owl Pillowcase Dress in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: September 28, 2009 11:28:59 AM
This is the 2nd one of these I made my daughter.  The first was so tiny I couldn't even get it over her!  I've never done pillowcase dresses before and my measurements were way off!  This 2nd one fits better, but next time I need to make it even bigger.  Ah well- live and learn!  Smiley

Thanks for looking!!

15  My Most Favorite Shirred Dress! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: September 28, 2009 11:21:56 AM
I made this shirred dress for my daughter recently.  It is by far my most favorite shirred dress I have made her.  It was much harder than past ones as the fabric had straight lines, so I had to be very careful of every stitch I made.  I actually didn't do any seam ripping though- woohoo!  I also added the contrast fabric at the bottom, which I like.  My favorite part is how the elephants scrunch up in the shirred part at the top Smiley  I did all my seams using a french seam.  I started using this recently and I really like how the seam looks finished.

Anyhow, on to the pictures, since that's what you came for anyhow Smiley

And just because I thought this was an awesome face...

Thanks for looking Smiley

16  My Wiggly One Year Old and Her 3 New Shirts (9 pics) in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: September 18, 2009 01:35:10 PM
My daughter is such a wiggle worm, making for a hard subject to photograph.  Plus, the weather is yucky here today, so no good natural light.  Regardless, I wanted to share the 3 shirts I did for my daughter yesterday... just excuse the not so great photos.

The first one I made is my favorite.  This was my first time doing applique, but it was super easy!  I used a coloring page as a guide to make the owl.  The orange fabric of the body is an owl print fabric I picked up at Wal-Mart.  I bought it to make a dress, but I made the dress WAY too small.  Luckily, I had enough left to make this.

I was so excited by the way the 1st turned out, that I pretty much immediately started on a 2nd shirt.  This one is much simpler.  Again, I got the elephant outline from a coloring sheet.  I freehanded the heart.  I think I'm going to outline the fabric with stitching to make it a little more durable.

The third shirt is a reverse applique.  The idea, pattern and all, was taken from lil blue boo's blog (http://lilblueboo.blogspot.com), my new favorite place to get inspired!

I received an amazing package from SAHMama yesterday evening.  It was absolutely perfect!  She sent THREE pairs of babylegs and an appliqued Owl onesie- how awesome!  Everything fits my daughter perfectly.  She was asleep when I opened, so no action shots, but here are the wonderful goodies Smiley

Thanks so much for such a wonderful package Smiley

20  Long Picnic Halter Dress for My Baby Girl in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by drgdlg on: August 12, 2009 06:05:06 PM
Well, I came up with this simple idea for a dress on my own.  I meant to make the dress a regular around-the-knee length dress.  But, somewhere along the line, I made it much longer.  Though it's not very practical, I think it is adorable on her!

Balls are pretty much her favorite thing Smiley

Thanks for looking!
