31  First real pastel in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by tiltcreations on: August 24, 2008 06:15:10 PM
I have never really worked with pastels outside of classrooms...but it seemed best (i.e.quickest) when I just had to get it out.
Just wanted to share - it is me & my son when I had, and lost, him.  It's a
b*%&ch, but strong emotions always make me want to create - helps it out.

32  My favorite Tortilla Soup in Recipes and Cooking Tips by tiltcreations on: August 22, 2008 10:09:42 AM
I finally wandered my way over to this board & thought I'd share one of my favorites. I took from about 6 recipes I had found and smooshed them together using only the parts I liked...enjoy! note: I never measure when I make it, but these are very close.

this pic used chopped chicken instead of shredded - I really preferred the shredded

1 1/2 pounds chicken breast halves without skin, cooked & shredded
<easier to shred if boil it in veggie broth>
1 medium onion, chopped
1 whole green bell pepper, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 cups low sodium chicken or veggie broth
1 cup salsa
2 14-oz cans diced tomato, opt. with green chiles, undrained -or fresh equivalent-
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup light sour cream - optional
1/4 cup cheddar cheese - optional
1/4 cup fresh cilantro
2-3 tortillas

1. Cook chicken - either roast, bake or poach - your choice. then shred

2. Preheat oven to 350*.

3. Cut each tortilla in half & cut those halves into 1/4-inch strips. Arrange tortilla strips in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 6 minutes or until lightly browned, stirring after 3 minutes. Cool completely.

4. In large saucepan heat oil over med-hi heat.

5. Add onion, green pepper & garlic. Saute until soft, about 3 minutes.

6. Stir in tomatoes, chicken broth, salsa, chili powder, basil, oregano, cumin & pepper and bring to a boil.

7. Stir in chicken. Cover & simmer 30 minutes or longer. If soup seems too thick add more broth.

8. Stir tortilla strips into soup.  Serve hot.

9. Top each serving with 1T cheese, cilantro & 1T sour cream (optional)

33  too disproportionate? in Get Product and Website Opinions by tiltcreations on: August 21, 2008 06:29:49 PM
I really like the basic concept with this one & want to work it until it's just what I want - it'll be the first "evening" bag for my shop (once I open)...but need some input from you lovely folks please Grin:
Whether or not it looks strange with such a large handle?

it's a little light in the sun here, but gives size -v- hand

and the inside - still need to tweak the process for the side lining to main attachment

Thanks in advance...

34  Giant lizard and a question in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by tiltcreations on: August 20, 2008 06:40:55 PM
OK - this is a completed project and a discussion question - wasn't sure where to put it...but b/c I am proud of my first toy thingy - I decided to put it here..

I made this last Xmas for my son...it's 6ft head to toe (I forget the pattern I used, it was one of the big 3)...anyway - I really liked how he turned out...but what a b$^*h to make!
I want to make a mini one as a buddy this Xmas and am looking for ideas on how to make the triangle attachment process easier (not being 6ft long will help  Grin) - The first time I sewed down the 'center' of the trianlges from tail to head & then back following the outer edges of the triangles.

36  Cute but kinda useless purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by tiltcreations on: August 14, 2008 04:46:26 AM
Just finished this recently...love the purse, good when you don't need much more than cell, money & ID...thus the kinda useless portion of the title. Plus, I didn't think far enough ahead on closure - a sew on snap and the magnetic snap on the flap are all that closes it...but it is small (therefore tight) enough to almost work.
<<any ideas on a better closure are much appreciated...I'm afraid a zipper  would alter the look too much>>>
just wanted to share...thanks for peeking  Cheesy

and a view inside...no pockets>> too small

And I poked a small hole just above the little tag (which I just slap on everything now) when using the seam ripper to fix stuff.

38  carpet baggy'ish bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by tiltcreations on: August 10, 2008 09:47:04 PM
Just finished this one last week...camera is flubbing so I had to wait for the sun to come out  Grin
It was a bi%&*h to make...the zipper part anyway. I tried to make it so it was a bit down into the interior using a facing-like thing - if anyone knows a good way to get the facing-zipper-lining to fit nicely...I would love some direction...thanks in advance...
btw - material? dunno, its a layered woven silky'ish tapestry thingy..

and that d^&%n zipper!

last weekend we went on a family vaca & I tried embroidery for the first time....my 13 yo son was looking for something to do....and I didn't forget to bring just my stitch cheatsheet, but my new designs<<<that were purchased, just to clarify>> (so I had to sketch from memory - apologies to the original artist  Grin)

he said the stitches were supposed to be quick, long and choppy b/c an Evil Genius would have to hurry up so he can plot to take over the world...man I love that kid!!!
