21  QUILTING / Quilting: Discussion and Questions / Looking for Bird Tessellation from 60s-70s on: September 18, 2008 07:06:24 AM
I've been in search of a bird tessellation pattern, a very specific one. It is quit simple; made with one a square and triangles. I believe it was popular in the 1960s or 1970s.

I do not know where else to look, I've tried surfing the net, but as you know it's hit or miss when it comes to looking for very specific things! I don't think there's a particular artist associated with this pattern, but I could be wrong.

If anyone knows a good book where I can find this, or has any idea how to go about getting my hands on it please share your ideas! It would be so greatly appreciated! I know tessellations are easy to create from scratch, but we really want this particular bird.

PS in case you're wondering, the pattern is for the background of a quilt that my Aunt is making me & my Hubby as a late wedding gift. It's going to feature Alfred Hitchcock and have the birds as the background  Wink
22  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Silly game for Bachelorette Party~ on: September 09, 2008 04:13:46 PM
The bride-to-be said she wanted to play "silly penis games", so I bought a whole bunch of Play-Doh and everyone had to sculpt a penis! We all voted for our top 2; based on creativity. It was fun and everyone was actually really thrilled to be playing with Play-Doh. lol

Top right, #3 won, made by the bride. It has a little man! And next runner up was #2 (top middle).

23  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Penis Cake (for Bachelorette Party) on: September 09, 2008 03:58:48 PM
I made a penis shaped cake for my best friend's bachelorette party! I didn't have an actual mold so I just carved it out of the glass dish. My first time making my own frosting from scratch too, and just one drop of red food coloring made the perfect tint of pink/peach! hehe

24  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Square Quilt on: September 09, 2008 03:28:44 PM
I started and finished this quilt in four days. I made it for my best friend's wedding gift! It's only my fourth quilt; and the first one where I did it completely by myself. I hope to move on to a fancier pattern with my next one, but at least I didn't screw up this pattern  Wink

25  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Fancy Veil on: August 19, 2008 06:17:50 PM
I'm throwing a bridal shower this Saturday for my best friend; I'm her matron of honor. I made this funky veil for her to wear at the shower; and maybe the bachelorette party too. Her favorite color is red, and the bridesmaid's dresses are sable brown and champagne. -So I combined similar colors:

26  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Glass Necklace on: August 04, 2008 05:41:52 AM
I made this for a very special friend of mine (who was also the designer for my first fashion show last weekend)! It consists of: a dichroic pendant, some Czech glass beads, goldstone and blue goldstone. Let me know what you think!

27  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Weddings and Bridal Showers / Bridal Shower Thank Yous on: July 16, 2008 04:20:15 PM
I'm the Matron of Honor in my friend's wedding; and am also coordinating a bridal shower and bachelorette party. Part of my gift(s) to her are some homemade thank you cards for her shower. She's not so much of a girly-girl, so I had to come up with something feminine but not too bubble-gum if you know what I mean. Something right in the middle. So here is what I came up with:

(I hope she will like them)!  Smiley
28  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Bucketheadella Costume on: July 16, 2008 12:08:23 PM
Here is a fun (and cheap) costume I created. Inspired by the robotic-wizard-like guitar player Buckethead. Great for Halloween, just for fun, or going to see the master himself, of course!

Items needed:
*KFC bucket (original or decorated)
*rain poncho or any solid colored work jumpsuit
*white kabuki mask
*guitar (electric preferred but acoustic works)
And WaLa~

I added a cat toy (on my hand) for fun.
"All hail Bucketheadella..."
29  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / A little twist: bandanna/scarf on: July 16, 2008 10:19:51 AM
I just can't get enough of the silky Asian prints at Joann. I made a scarf/bandanna with 1/2 yard of some magenta/purple/gold fabric. Since it is woven, both sides are equally beautiful. Instead of using the traditional measurements for a bandanna (usually 23"x23") I shifted it a bit and cut it in a more rectangular shape vs. square.  Approximately 15"x28" or so. Once folded and worn like a regular square bandanna, both sides show off the brilliant colors/patterns. (This is reversible as well).
I was going for a sexy-modern-bomber kind of look.

and since I've worn it I've gotten several inquiries about people wanting to buy one! So easy to make!
