1  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / [Grocery store tip--save money]Great Grocery Totes on: August 14, 2008 09:07:11 PM
I just wanted to share this with all of you.

Tonight while going through the mail, I came across an ad for Sprouts. It's a fruit/veggie/organic store...I know there's plenty in AZ, just not sure about the rest of the US. They are taking a nickel off your bill for every recycled bag/reusable bag you use at the time of check out. I know a nickel isn't a lot, but every penny helps!

I've been toying with the idea of making a bunch of these for grocery shopping, but hadn't figured out how to get my hubby to use them (he usually does the shopping). He said he'd use them at Sprouts to get the discount!

So, if you shop at Sprouts, don't forget your bags!! No, I don't work for them...I'm a stay at home mom...I just thought I'd share the savings opportunity with you guys...not to mention the green aspect of it all!!  Wink
2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Heart bag that almost gave me a heart attack and one to sort of make up for it! on: August 07, 2008 10:23:09 PM
Hi all!

I thought the heart bag was going to kill me! I was so frustrated with this darn purse! I was just "winging" it and it sure taught me a lesson! The lining was super slippery and didn't fit worth a darn and I used way to stiff interfacing!! I also remembered that it might be easier to lay the pattern piece (made out of a paper grocery bag) on a fold...that way the sides would be symetrical. Unfortunately this was after I had already cut the first side! Sigh...this is a learning process!

So, I decided to put together the other little green/tan bag. The top part is hunter green velvet and the lining is brown. My stitching around the top is far from perfect, but I was much happier with this one than the heart bag! I also installed my first magnetic snap closure in the green/tan bag. I so need to branch out and add pockets!!

To help me with my sewing skills, I picked up a 2 hour pattern to make pajama bottoms for my hubby!!

3  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions / Zipper question on: August 01, 2008 10:36:32 AM
I've never worked with zippers before and have only made 2 purses. I'm wondering if it is possible to pull a zipper out of an old dress or something and reusing them in purses. My mom gave me 3 huge boxes of old clothes that don't fit anyone and I'd like to get as much usable zippers, fabric, buttons, etc from them as possible. I just am not sure if zippers are reusable!

Thanks for any advice on this!!
4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / First ever purse...Sha Sha Dream Bag on: July 22, 2008 02:24:43 PM
Hi! I discovered this site about a month ago and spent hours reading posts on this board. I usually spend all my creative energy painting, but I had to go off on a tangent and make this adorable purse!! The tutorial was pretty simple to follow...thanks to those of you who posted the tute and all the discussion on the topic! Everything helped me make this first shot a success!

Here's my little purse...definitely not perfect, but not bad for my first ever purse! Let me know what you think! OH...I almost forgot...I'm going to sew on a button for the ribbon loop for a closure. Hoping to hit JoAnn's for either an apple button or a pig one...

I think my next purse will have a little pocket inside.
5  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Get Product and Website Opinions / Sticking my neck out there.... on: July 15, 2008 12:52:33 PM
Ok...I'm sticking my neck out and asking for opinions...

I paint ceramics and have been giving the Santas away every year to family members as gifts. My family has been pushing me to do this for years...so I made the jump. So far I've only sold pieces to....yep...FAMILY!!! So very discouraging.
I'm working now to get enough finished pieces for a craft fair this fall.

So, what do you all think? Am I charging enough or should I charge more? Do you think people would buy these pieces??

Thanks for any advice or words of wisdom!!
6  Arizona / Arizona: Central / Anyone know of East Valley Craft Fairs Fall '08? on: July 11, 2008 09:30:58 AM
I'm new to the craft circuit...hoping to be successful! I'm looking for craft fairs or boutiques in the East Valley for this Fall and for the Holidays. I live in the Gilbert area, so anything in Gilbert, QC, AJ or East Mesa would work for me! I spent most of the night last night digging on the internet, but didn't find a whole lot...and what I did find had high booth/table prices. Any suggestions?

I hand paint ceramics (mostly Christmas and Halloween). You can see some of my stuff at http://santasnmore.googlepages.com. I still have only sold things to family!!
