1  killer leather and mahogany breakfast nook in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by ravenwitch on: July 17, 2011 03:28:39 PM
I visited my brother for the first time in a couple years.  I sometimes forget how amazingly crafty he is.  My mom was blown away by the leather, snap on cover he made for his truck.  I didn't get a picture of that but I did notice his plain pine breakfast nook had gotten a killer makeover.  He wouldn't post it online but I thought it needed shared.

I don't have a before pic but I am sure most of you have seen the pine, corner tables with benches before.
Here is an after close up.  He sanded it and stained it mahogany.  Then he cut boards that fit into the frame for the seats and back.  He padded them and covered them in leather.  Sweet!

The padded panels are such a perfect fit, they aren't attached at all and can be pulled out (with a bit of effort).

I wish my dining room had that kind of furniture.  I just had to share.  Sadly, I may need my brother to decorate for me.  He has a better eye for design.

2  awesome skull purse in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by ravenwitch on: May 22, 2011 08:36:57 PM
I have a purse that I love the shape of but it is too big.  I don't carry much, so I wanted to make a smaller version with a cool fabric.

Tada!  It turned out exactly as I wanted it.  Shocked

It has a zippered pocket in front and a teeny, tiny one inside, barely big enough for a few cards.
I included the dollar so you can see how big it is.

I even centered the skulls on the straps.

And here it is with the original, that I thought was too big.

I didn't use any kind of pattern.  I just guessed, using the basic shape of the one I liked.  I can't believe how easy it was!
I have never made any kind of purse before, so I am really proud!

3  witch costume for doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by ravenwitch on: August 06, 2010 10:14:52 PM
My neice has wanted a witch costume for her American Girl for a long time but can't find one.

So I made her a pattern.  I sewed one right with her to show her how.

Mine is black and brown and on a Magic Attic Doll.

Hers is black with silver spiderwebs on her Elizabeth doll.

She wanted 3/4 sleeves, a shorter dress and pants.

We should have interfaced the hat brims.

We even made her a little pair of boots!

This is only her second sewing project.  I think she did an awesome job!

4  Stuffed hamster and Pokester? Hamstemon? in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by ravenwitch on: August 06, 2010 10:04:28 PM
My youngest asked me to make him a blue hamster, the same exact size as his Zhu zhu hamster, so it can wear his armor, so I dug out some blue fabric and felt and

I had no idea what I was doing but he's happy!

Then my oldest asks for a Raichu? Hamster ? Huh!
Some kind of pokemon and hamster cross.  With a red lightning bolt.  And a long tail with a lightning bolt at the end.  I put Raichu in the pics for a reference.
 Undecided  I don't know.

The second hamster has a crooked face!  Oops.

But my son thinks he is pretty cute anyway!

5  bridesmaid dress-done enough? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by ravenwitch on: August 06, 2009 12:57:02 PM
The wedding is Saturday morning. I am way out of time!
I have spent all my time making the wedding dress, the cake, the food.
Now my dress is really rushed. Does it look finished?  Does it need straps?  Any thoughts or suggestions?

Ignore the spots, my son has been playing with the camera and the lense is dirty.

6  dragon skirt to...umm dragon skirt:) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by ravenwitch on: May 06, 2009 02:55:31 PM
Last week, my Ex husband bought me a floor length pencil skirt.  (I have no idea why he bought me anything but Undecided)  There was a really cool dragon at the bottom on the back.  I couldn't see it  Sad.  Also, as a mom who chases kids all day, when would I wear a skirt I can't even walk in?  It could be shortened about three inches, not by cuffing but by scrunching it up and using buttons???
So...  I modified it.  Or really, shredded it and pieced it back together.

After -It is tooooooo big!  Oops!

But I did get a shot of my camera shy youngest in the background!
I had to use some really careful cutting to keep the snap closure pockets and to get the dragon and pockets where I wanted them.  You can see that it is too big at the waist here.  Oh well, I love it anyway.  After I took these, I added darts to the back to make it smaller.

I added belt loops, using a seam I cut off the bottom because I liked the grey stitching.

I also put the button on straps that used to short it to mid-calf back on in random places.

7  tie dye dress into infinity shirt in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by ravenwitch on: May 04, 2009 01:59:35 PM
So...I love the infinity dresses everyone makes.  I think it would be so much fun to have a piece of clothing that looked different everytime you wore it.
I decided to try an Infinity shirt, so I can still wear jeans but have fun with the tying.  I also wanted to see what a difference the length of the ties made and how bulky it really got after it was tied... and you know...all those things I wonder when I see a beautiful Infinity dress that I know I would never wear 'cause I am really not a dress wearing kinda woman.
Pics are courtesy of my six year old son.

back (duh Tongue)

Before.  I got this from a friend who didn't wear it because, ummm, it just isn't very flattering and is too hot for Boise summers and not warm enough for winter or fall.

8  Re: Favorite Twirl Pattern? in Clothing for Kids: Discussion and Questions by ravenwitch on: April 13, 2009 10:44:12 PM
This is my favorite.

It is made by sewing a bunch of very fat "J" shaped pieces together.

9  twirly skirts just in time for spring! in Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects by ravenwitch on: April 13, 2009 09:52:12 PM
I have been dying to make these skirts, ever since I saw one a friend of mine owned.  Someone told me they are for toddlers but my friend is over fifty and hers is awesome!  I really want one for myself but decided to make ones for my nieces first as a test, since they are smaller. Cheesy  I did it without a pattern.  The denim one is made out of old jeans so technically it is a recon!  I left the back pockets on two pieces, just to see how it worked.  (Note to self, small girls need smaller pockets than full grown men)

action shot!

I wasn't going to add lace to this but she really wanted it.
