11  Purple Fairy Tree on Tote in Needlework: Completed Projects by echo_brook on: April 16, 2009 09:56:00 PM
Hello Everyone. It's been awhile since I got back to my needle work but for the most recent tree swap I had a chance to do just that. I was inspired by the massive amount of chain stitch contrariwise used on her pillow). but I can't find any of that info at the moment! Argh. If any one has any idea what I'm talking about please let me know! Anyways! (Thanks RedMenace for finding me that info!)I thought the texture would be perfect for a tree and off I went! I also threw some french knots in here because what better to simulate knots and burls in trees than knots? (I know! Bad embroidery pun. Please forgive me.) Anyway, here's my creation!

Thank you for looking! Comments, criticism, and "this rocks" votes appreciated Cheesy

Alright Ladies, get your wisting fingers out! Smiley Here is the spoilage that little green dragonfly bestowed upon me.

Everything in one huge heap.

The LONG necklace and bird's nest pendant. I've been lusting after those bird nests for a -long- time.

Fun little leaf cutouts, Owl journal, and window clings. I was actually looking for a journal earlier that day! Good thing I waited to get one! And those clings are going straight onto my bathroom mirror Smiley Love the snail and the leaf ones.

The cutest little coin purse!

...And now onto my favorite items Smiley

Crocheted/felted snails!!  TOO CUTE! I can give the other snails back now. lol. These are wonderful! At first when I was opening everything I immediately snatched the bigger snail and was just ecstatic. AND he's green and purple. My favorite color combo. Then I opened the coin purse and out popped the absolutely darling junior snail! Thank you so much little green dragonfly! Spot on with these little dudes!

This isn't a very good picture of it, but she crocheted me a scarf inspired from one found on my wists. I think it's awesome! Love it!

Action shot with scarf and snails!

...ignore the kind of psychotic grin. I get that way around mollusks and if you throw trees into the mix, all is lost Tongue

Thank you SO much little green dragonfly! I couldn't have liked your package more!
And thank you also Jenicat and digital misfit! Wonderful swap!!

Oh wow. I want to see that!!

I still haven't sent in my questionnaire cause I can't figure out a fav scientist or molecule.

ps. I love snails. Your pic is great. I actually want to get a tattoo of mine. (I didn't draw it....found it online somewhere.)

Why thank you Smiley I'm not the artist responsible for my avatar, either. My fiance sent me the image because he knows I have mollusk fever. lol.

Okay, without further ado, here is the quilt! Cheesy (Sorry for the crappy pictures, quilts are freaking hard to photo graph!)

Here is the full quilt. It has giant cell monsters on the bottom/floor and on the wall paper there are viruses as patterns. Here's a close up of the "wall paper":

I think it's awesome Smiley I'm going tohave to convince her to teach me to quilt sometime Tongue

pinupmommy forgot to take pics of the beaded strawberry I sent her. But I worked too hard to not show that thing off (haha, sorry), so here it is:

I got my box from mynameis_jinx today!  THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! OMG! The cuteness is ...CUTE!! HAHA Here are the pics:

Partially unwrapped. Love that paper! It will be reused for something Smiley

Then out pops...a pop up purple octopus!! SO CUTE! Made me giggle Tongue The fiance thinks I'm crazy Tongue I think mynameis_jinx rocks!

Stamps! I lsot a huge stamp collection in one of my many moves Sad Thanks for getting me started again!

My favorites amongst the stamps (though hard to pick)

Handcrafted goodies! She did such and awesome job stalking! That nautilus hand carved stamp is to kill for!! Do you have any idea how hard it is to find something like that? And her carving skills are mad crazy awesomeness! The little paper with the nautilus on it is what it looks like when you use it Smiley Also, I heart those earrings! Two of my favorite colors Smiley

Everything else (googly eyes!! YAY!! And bells! Those are going onto holiday earrings). Don't ask me how she got this all in that little box! I'm still trying to repack the thing! lol.
Thank you so much, mynameis_jinx! You nailed my tastes right on!

Sorry it has taken me so long to get pictures up! I got pinupmommy's creations and goodies on Saturday (kind of). Thank you so much pinupmommy! She even spoiled me with a few goodies Tongue
Here's what I found in my mailbox:

The lovely box with the extra leaves she sent me because she new I was in the tree swap. I'll have to see if I can't put them to some good use.

The innards. I love those tiny little leaves and the snowflakes. I'm probably going to end up keeping the mini leaves for myself and making them into little studs to match a pair on dangly oak leaf earrings I have. Thank you!

Everything together.

18  Squid Nativity Scene in Polymer Clay: Completed Projects by echo_brook on: January 17, 2009 10:26:40 AM
Ok, I think this might need a bit of explaining. My fiance and I were racking our brains trying to come up with a holiday present for his parents. They are the kind of people who have everything and are so eccentric that attempting to find something for them is pure torture. He mentioned that they had a tradition of making rather nontraditional nativity scenes to decorate their home (my favorite was their mohawk egg scene). There is also a long running love for cephalopods in our family so I though: Why not make a squid nativity scene for them!? After a few days of messing around with my polymer clay stash my fiance and I came up with this:

close up of squid egg Jesus:

His family really got a kick out of it. I also whipped up a batch of tentacle earrings to send along with the nativity scene for his three sisters:

Comments welcome and thank you for looking!

19  Decorate Sea Monster Pumpkin - Ideas/Advice Please in Halloween Decor and Parties by echo_brook on: October 14, 2008 04:06:46 PM
Hi Craftsters
I volunteer at a local Aquarium and we are having a pumpkin carving contest for our Haunted Aquarium. I LOVE decorating pumpkins and really want to get in on this - I have just one dilemma: We can't carve or puncture the gourds at all!! AHH! What is a pumpkin carving aficionado to do? Well, get on craftster and ask! Wink I want to do something ocean/marine themed that the kids would love. Any ideas? Pointers for painting a pumpkin? Sites that might be useful? Glues that work with gourds?
Ideas I've come up with:
1) Angler fish from the deep (yep, think Finding Nemo). But how on earth to get that little light on there??
2) Painting a kelp forest with glow in the dark paints. But my painting skills are...not great Tongue
3) Vampire Touthus! Probably one of the most evil looking squids EVER. See below

4) Reproducing classic images of Sailors' ideas of sea monsters. But again - painting is not my forte.
Thanks in advance for any advice or ideas you can offer!

OK smittenheart completely spoiled me!  Thank you so much! I am so not worthy. hehe. Check out the loot!!!

Everything together! WHOA!!!

I think that these are resin...it's my first resin encounter if they are. Orange and purple pumpkin magnets and a sprinkle ring. Tooooooo cute!

Some store bought/stash buster items. Except for the card. I think she made the card. Her stuff is too professional! I could only tell crafted from bought by the tags! lol. Smittenheart your work is seriously amazing! And that candle smells amazing!!

Origami box, Halloween tags, and little cut out pumpkins crafted just for me Smiley SPOILED!

And my absolute favorite! A pumpkin orange scarf with little felt bats on the ends. Seen here cuddling with my squid. This is too awesome! I so wore it to work today even though I live in southern California and we so don't need scarves just yet. hehe. Thank you so much smittenheart!
