i finished this dress a while ago but it really is a more winter season type thing. i was gonna add bell sleeves but the satin i used is really thick and they stuck out kinda like lampshades....

the black tuxedo ruffled shirt underneath i also made. its from a pattern from a japanese gothic lolita bible..

im really proud with how it all turned out. what do you think?

24  chocolate and cherry halloween mice! in Dessert by alli.illektro on: October 25, 2008 03:14:52 PM

i make these little guys usually for christmas. i worked at a little tea house and bakery and we always made white mice (with WHITE chocolate) as part of our nut cracker tea. i thought these might be cute in regular chocolate as part of a halloween spread!

you will need:

- a jar of maraschino cherries WITH STEMS!!
- melting chocolate (either white or regular)
- bag of Hershey's kisses (any variety you like)
- small packet of almond slivers
- mini chocolate chips
- wax paper
- glass bowl big enough to dunk the mice
- spoon
- strainer
- microwave!

sooo.....start by rinsing all the cherries in the strainer and laying them on paper towel to dry, you can pat them a bit but be gentle, you need them intact. you can eat all the ones that have lost their stems Smiley

microwave some of the melting chocolate according to the directions.

unwrap some hershey's kisses and use a dollop of the melting chocolate to glue a kiss to the front of each cherry opposite the stem/tail. (i like the curl in my stems to go up so i make sure they sit like that.) set them on wax paper to dry. they should look like this:

once their stuck on good and cooled pick them up by the stems and dip them in the bowl of melted chocolate! a spoon might help ya out here.

set them back on the wax paper, tail facing up!

while their still wet put too little mini-chocolate chip eyes in their little faces and add the almond sliver ears!

let them dry, arrange them on a plate and TA DA!

they should be eaten by the tail--->

26  ziggy stardust costume *NOW COMPLETE* in Halloween Costumes by alli.illektro on: October 03, 2008 11:31:29 AM
DONE! added shoulder pads. i used stiffened craft felt as an interfacing and just covered it with the same silver as the rest. i did the long arm warmer sleeves so it can also be sleeve-less if the lame gets me to hot....i still need to fix the extra fabric around the collar a bit so it lays better. sorry on the sh*tty makeup- this was just a fast trial run but here ya go!:

so far i made a wig, from 2 long auburn halloween wigs. i thought i'd jsut be able to cut one of the long wigs short (into the trademark bowie mullet) but once i did i discovered that halloween wigs are cheap and have huge gaps between the rows of "hair." so i cut the rows of hair off the mesh cap of another cheapy wig and sewed them in between the rows on the other. looks decent now!

now, about the body suit....i was hoping to make a silver lame bodysuit with a really deep v-neck, like down to my bellybutton (im super flat-chested so this can work with a bit o' tape Wink the only silver i could find that wasnt see-through was a 2-way stretch. its hard to wear because it is SKIN tight. and hottt. but thats ok, im in minneapolis, halloween is COLD. problem- im heasitant to put sleeves on it because it might jsut make it MORE ill fitting an hard to wear...

so craftsters, heres my question....is it ok without sleeves? should i add some sort of shoulder pads? a collar? how can i improve this?

(i WILL be painting the lightening bolt, and i have 4 inch, black, platform boots.)

<----eeee! i just covered my black platform boots in this red glitter foil that has an adhesive back (from joann's, scrapbook section, 99cents a sheet)
cept i couldnt do the buckles, too much hassel. ah well. and the best part is it peels off so i dont have to ruin my boots!

29  wire-work collar/ throat corset in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by alli.illektro on: August 26, 2008 08:33:13 PM
another in my series of pretty things that may not be that practical:

heavy gauge gold wire form the vertical pieces with a thin gauge woven in spider-web style. added iridescent clear beads of random shapes and hanging crystal beads.... i dont like the way the ends of the ties stick out. i think i will have to put beads on the ends to weigh them down...still. i love it.

30  kikirara shoten inspired corset!! (some maybe nudity?) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by alli.illektro on: August 26, 2008 09:09:17 AM
ive been tackling the idea of making a corset for some time but im always intimidated by the pattern. that is until i found this tutorial!! https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=122286.0

its made of this amazing iridescent green/blue ive had around forever and the ruffles and bow are chiffon (purposely frayed) with little crystals *squee!* for the boning i used those cheap flexible plastic cutting boards!! genius! though next time i think i would double layer them because it bends a bit when laced really tight.

i was inspired by this AMAZING japanese designer who does stunning corsets with lots of ruffles and decorations-- Kikirara Shoten ( http://www.kikirarashoten.com/ )

im pretty much in love with this piece. and i was so easy i plan to make lots more!
