1  Re: Make-a-Friend Round 4: The Gallery in The Swap Gallery by jessarama on: September 08, 2009 09:32:18 PM
Theballandskein is the best swapper in the world! She sent#2 on time, and I waited weeks and weeks to post because life has been way too complicated! I feel like a heel and I beg you all to heap some well deserved love her way!

She sent some(long consumed and delicious!)chocolate and card from her neck of the woods, which is coincidentally one of my favorite places on earth. She also sent some really good tea, and massage oil-

She mailed some hair pins she made, with perfect timing as I just chopped all my hair.

She sent some easy and lovely patterns as befitting my stasus as beginning knitter.

As well as some truly gorgeous hemp yarn. My camera is not doing these rich colors justice, it is beautifully dyed.

She aslo sent some wonderful ephemera for my dollhouses, some of it pictured here. She sent a lacy golden scarf, modeled here by Hammy Harry

I saved my favorite for last! A really wonderful Day of the Dead stuffed doll:

It is really well made and fits my aesthetic to a T! We all loved what you sent, theballandskein!

Prepare Yourselves for most excellent tininess!
I should have posted right when I got this box last week- I have myriad excuses, but I don't want to waste time, what CamOovas made for me was all so wonderful and perfect. It really deserves to be admired and is all hand made! All the miniatures are traditional dollhouse 1" to 1' scale- the detail and craftsmanship is out of this world.

This is my lovely Bunny, so CamOovas made me a wee needle felted version

She made Bunny a little home too, replete with a tiny bag of pine chips and a tiny bag of rabbit poop (for the life of me I couldn't get the bag to photograph- I love the minuscule turds too much to take out and lose!) also a bowl and carrot to munch! The whole box is about the size of a saltine.

She made a tiny wooden jewelry box with working, lined drawers. One drawer had a few bars of soap inside. It is so small! Smaller than a book of matches and much more delicate.

She made a crate, and some grapes

Two loaves of bread, with a purchased knife and plate, and a basket of rolls

And a table for everything to go on!

I took these pictures in my dollhouse scale theater, and I am sorry if they are a little blurry! Everything was wonderful and generous! I hope you enjoy yours, CamOovas and that we can swap some other time!

Songs4Drowning's box arrived a few days ago and I am still heady with delight! She has no monster prejudice- her monsters are both classy and trashy, classic movie, made up and from the animal kingdom.
The box:

The first thing I pulled out was a Tunisian Crocheted tapestry of two vampires...um..sucking face (it is just the lips)

What a cool image.
And who is this monster?

My two year old, Harry in his new towel hoodie!

It is also good for pretending to be a Jedi!
Next is a resin pin, key ring monster thing:

And she used a monster can, also featured in a bracelet, along with the card she made:

She did two very different embroidered towels-
One is sexy Mrs. Frank, labeled "Mama Stein's Sub Shop" (notice the cloth on the bottom)

The other has beads and portrays the adorable and deadly blue ringed octopus

Arthur, I pulled out last:

There was also a short profile describing Arthur's mutilation and loneliness in a jaunty tone

Songs4Drowning, I suspect your personality contains equal parts of cheer and gruesomeness! You were a great swap partner, Thank You!

I received the other day from spicytaco, the queen of the swap, but was too busy playing with my stuff to post right away!
She made these gorgeous chilies modeled in the DH's feets:

And this exquisite embroidery of a sugar skull in a prettyframe. I love this, and every wall in my house is fighting over who gets to hang it:

And last but not least- a Katrina Skull lady, which I really, really wanted. She has her own , homemade little shrine to live in...

although she can come out too, and has already made some friends among my ladies

Spicytaco, thank you for a most wonderful swap- you made me beautiful things! I am totally inspired to make my kitchen a day of the dead kitchen like I always wanted!

Package 1
I received from Theballandskein yesterday and I am so happy! Her package went awry, but still reached me before mine did her! I am so happy she is my partner- we have very similar taste and it felt like Christmas opening everything. There was the sweetest letter, and all this wonderful, useful whimsical stuff!
Her favorite colors in this hemp yarn:

The orange is the exact shade I love!
Her favorite holiday is Christmas:

my favorite holiday is anything involving skulls!
Her favorite hobby is reading Stephanie Plum books

Something reflecting her personal style, she made a beautiful applicaded skull:

On a t-shirt for my son Harry!

Favorite design:silhouettes and vines, she made a matching walllet and wristband:

my ugly carpet doesn't do it justice, but this fabric is BEaUTIFUL!
Favorite Flower is a Gerber daisy, she knit a great skinny scarf modeled here by Harry:

For extras she got me a John Lee Hooker CD (I love the blues), and a pin she had made with a Mark Ryden image

I had never heard of him and now I think I am obsessed!
Here is where the pictures get confusing!
she also listed: Favorite Store- Phat Angle (the magnet)
Something related to yarn- the two skeins of yarn
Something for your hair-ponytail holders
something kept in her purse- robot key chain and pin.
She sent what seemed like piles and piles of tiny wonderful things, which my family kept stealing and I kept having to grab back in order to photograph!

theballandskein is a terrific partner with the best taste!

I got my towels from AndreaDenielll ! I had such a great time opening the box and I was really blown away by the care and attention she put into this; she is a great artist. I told her that we are all book addicts here so she sent a sweet, crocheted "book thong"

And then the first two towels very much reflect my obsession!

I am sorry that this photo is so blurry, I have a lousy camera- If you have a better camera AndreaDeniell you should post it! I hope you can see the beautiful tinting around the stitching.

I love this one because the reader reminds me of my son Harry!
I also told her that I love Mexican art. I was kind of expecting a simple day of the dead thing, but here is what she  sent:

Look at this stitching! I am so blown away by how beautiful it is! Is it adapted from a Diego Rivera painting? I really love it! How did you achieve the tinting on your pieces? Are they safe to wash?
I am now a swapping addict!

(once more)
