332  How to show my love for my daughter! in Valentine's Day by blupaisan on: February 16, 2014 07:23:17 PM
I really have no money, but knew just what would make her happiest for Valentine's Day. I worked on this for a month. It begins with a large package and ends with a tiny but wonderful surprise. I was there as she opened each layer. An unforgettable experience.

First the big box which I hauled into her livingroom...

I cut out dozens of illustrations from one of her childhood favorite books that I got for free at a convenience store of all places, and added cut-out text to create funnies.

There are just too many to show, but each is funnier than the last.
Inside of that is another box 'wrapped' in giant easy-to-read "Who Called Notes" with personal jokes on them.

Inside that....
Paper with footie prints on it...

inside that, a fabric painted pillowcase -

next, a giant map of Greece with a favorite quote from the movie Twister

inside that, a box decorated with owls and funny names I cut out of our local phone book!

Names are stuff like Smart Rob, Sargeant Bruce, Pray Kayla, Patch Marvin, Hellman Joel.
inside that, paper that I french-knotted together, forming an envie.

Inside that, an envie featuring Nature inchies...

inside that, a photo I cut from a How to Drum book, with funnies added

inside that, some cut-outs from an antique How to Draw book... turned into an envie

inside that, an envie made from a Russian WatchTower magazine.

inside that, my rainbow zentangles with personal jokes hidden

inside that, a tiny ATC envie made from a Vermont map

And FINALLY  she gets to open her 'real' gift which is a mere ATC (after all that!!)

but the back announces that I quit smoking a month ago.

I must admit it is the most fun in Hell I have ever had. Instead of lighting up, I have spent the last month crafting this.

334  Re: ONGOING ATC SWAP - FEBRUARY 2014 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by blupaisan on: February 15, 2014 10:41:10 AM

Here are two adorable cards from nisforneville, on my Nature theme.
I love the colorful quality and the 3D effects. Plus, I am mad about owls and it is boderline kitchsy... right up my alley!
the background turquoise is my alltime fave color.
I am obsessed with the foil clouds. I keep looking at them. They make me happy for some reason.
Thank you, nisforneville. It was generous of you to do two! I love 'em!

Got two wonderful cards from KittyHerman! Subjects are 1Surprise, and 2Nature.

"Lucky Skies"

"CloverFly"

I know that it is fun to get cards from different artists with different taste and skills, but in this case I squeed because these are something I would do!!  I love them sooo much! Not only do I love the Natural elements, but I, too, see things that 'could be' other stuff, like the wings of a clover leaf.
Plus, she made gorgeous holders for 'em...

thank you very very much, KH!!  Made my day!

Here is the pterodactyl she had since birth. Isn't he adorable? I love love love how she stitched him as opposed to a drawing. Such a wonderful depiction.

I am so excited to present my first received for February! I have not been able to participate in months and have gone thru serious withdrawal. I am delighted to be back in and getting goodies in my mailbox!
From nisforneville, my puns theme...

I just love these two cards! I have heard the cantelope joke before, but never the hat and tie one. Awesome!!  And check out the little hat's thumb pointing that he will 'go on ahead.'
Thank you, nisforneville. A great job. Really made me smile!!

from vincentvanbuck...
word games

You have to figure out what letter each pic refers to, then put all the letters together. I wanna play all the time now!!
He said if I could not get the answer, I could peek thru to the back of the open windows for a hint. (it is the outline and colors that is the hint.)

I got the answer, based on the awesome drawings and also because vincentvanbuck knew I had just moved, reclaiming my home state. Can you all guess what this 'spells?'
Thank, you, vincentvanbuck. I truly love this card!!!

working on my OWL. beginning to cut and prepare the many many embroidery strings to hang my ATCs. My technique is to put a bit of glue at both ends of the string. After it dries, one end will hang from the thumbtack in the ceiling - no need to tie or loop. I will just have glue-sealed ends and that will allow me to put the tack between the 2 flosses. The other end will attach to the card. After glue dries, I take a needle and separate the 2 strands. I want the strands to be nice and firm and straight, hence the dried glue, then I lay the 2 separated strand ends on the very edge of the top of the card and let it dry. so far so good
