1  A Yurt is just a fancy Tent in Needlework: Completed Projects by luckdragon on: October 09, 2017 09:02:03 PM
Since my daughter went off to college, I have been sending her cross stitch hooplas to decorate her dorm.  I try to come up with ones that she will find amusing.

I was recently reminded of a funny (probably only to me and her) story from when she was little.  The Girl Scouts one year were planning to camp in yurts.  She didn't know what a yurt was and, when I described it, she said, "oh, a yurt is just a fancy tent!"  It just struck both of us funny (I know - you had to be there).  Anyway, over the years, any time either of us hears the word "yurt" (which is a funny word anyway), we just look at each other and say "just a fancy tent."

Rambling story over, here's the hoopla:

I embroidered the yurt on fabric, then used heat and bond to attach it to the aida after stitching the letters.

Yay! I'm so glad you like what I came up with, Kittykill!

And you totally went overboard with my package! I can't believe how much stuff you got into a pumpkin!  I had to stand up on a chair to get the whole package in one shot!

Look at all the candy and fun Halloween-y stuff!  Where did you find all of this? There is washi tape, pencils, batty headband, skully glasses, witchy boot decorations, moustache, fake teeth!

And the bunting!  So cute!

And, of course, a fantastic hoopla!

Most of this is going with me to visit my daughter at college this weekend! She's going to be so excited to get all of this! But the hoopla is for me!

Thanks so much for swapping with me kittykill!!

Plus a bonus bracelet and a copper tag with my daughter's name:

And for my daughter, a hunger games inspired bracelet (real or not real)

These were a bit hard to photograph, so Rox if you have better pix, please post!

- If outside the US, understands that a mailing receipt copy is required for this swap: YES[/size]

Here's how it works:
In this swap, you can contact anyone on Craftster and ask them to be your partner. It's almost like a personal swap, but with a group, and a killer gallery! You will have to sign up with your partner. That is, you must contact your potential partner via pm and you both must mutually agree to be partnered together. Once you have a partner, each of you must pm me with your information, and after doing all the necessary double checking, I will post you both together as participants and add this swap to your "In progress" feedback.

Swappers may have two partners this round! However, if you have any instances of 'poor swapping' documented in your feedback (such as 'no communication' 'did not craft in the spirit of the swap') or numerous instances of sending very late, I ask that you only craft for one partner. You may not have more than two partners.  ** New swappers may only have 1 partner**
As partners, you will choose if you want to have a theme, if you want to stalk each other and be surprised, or if you want to request from each other things you have admired in the past. You should also agree on quantity. I would suggest one "large" (time consuming and/or valuable) item, and a couple of "small" (quicker to craft) items that you know your partner will like.  But make sure that you both agree on a size.  Feel free to start crafting for your partner as soon as you are both officially signed up!
If you want to participate, but you are a bit shy of just asking someone, you can PM me and you'll be put on a list of "Potential Partners" in the next post, so people can choose from craftsters that are interested.

Please check into the thread once per week.
swappers will receive temporary negative feedback if:
- it is one week past send-outs and you are out of communication for 2 weeks
- it is two weeks past send-outs and you have not yet sent, regardless of the communication with us and your partner.

Even if you decide with your partner that you are sending late and she/he says its alright, you MUST send by two weeks past the send out date or this will be reflected in negative feedback. Once you do send and your partner has received, your feedback will be changed back to positive.  However, this late sending will be reflected in your feedback comments even if you communicated.

The secret password phrase is: little bunny foo-foo!

ONE NOTE: It is a little scary to ask someone to be your partner. Some people may have someone else already in mind, or they may not have the time or funds to participate right now, or they may just not be interested. We need to remember to be nice if we feel we need to refuse someone, and to not take it personally if someone else turns us down.

So, in summary, here's what you need to do:

1. Contact your partner (make sure they're in good standing, swapwise), and agree to join together
2. Both partners must PM luckdragon and each other with the questionnaire including mailing information.
3. Post in this thread weekly so I can keep up with you!
4. Make sure you can mail on time, and provide organizer with a USPS tracking number for U.S. packages.  If you are shipping internationally, make sure to save your post office receipt.
5. PM your partner and organizer when you receive as well! Your partner CANNOT get feedback unless we know that the package was received. Thank your partner both in a PM and publicly in the gallery. If you are unable to post pictures, please let your partner know before they send to you so that they can make sure to take pictures to post.  We all want to see what you got!
6. Lack of PMs to organizer and your partner will be noted in feedback!!!
7. Have fun!

If you want to participate, information to send to organizer (luckdragon) AND to your partner

6  Re: IYP 28 - Winter Wing Ding GALLERY!! in The Swap Gallery by luckdragon on: March 25, 2016 08:02:54 AM
Edel, I'm so glad you like your package! It was fun to make. Smiley

Thanks everyone for the nice comments!  So the storage boxes have a zipper diagonally across the bottom. When you open the zipper, the pouches can lie flat like this

The bottom can actually fold in as well but this shows the zipper.
This is the tutorial a referenced. I used plastic inside the sides for structure.

And then, just because, here is another picture of the flamingo pouch ( sorry can,t seem to get it in the right direction :/   )

And more flamingos inside

The pouch is marine vinyl. I use a Teflon sewing foot and temporary spray adhesive to hold the appliqu pieces in place for stitching (after much trial and error!)

10  Big Scarf - pinterest inspired in Needlework: Completed Projects by luckdragon on: February 03, 2016 02:45:05 PM
Embroidery/cross stitch of my daughter in her big scarf:

Backstory:I spend way too much time looking through pinterest for crafty inspiration and way too little time actually crafting.  However, sometimes "pinspiration" happens at just the right time for actual craft motivation!

So, I found these fantastic needlework/illustration pieces by Izziyana Suhaimi (blog post: http://elblogdedmc.blogspot.com/2012/01/izziyana-suhaimi-ilustraciones-con.html) and in particular, this one:

So, pinned for future reference...

Not 3 days later, my mom emails me this picture of my daughter from Christmas

Random coincidence or fate?  Either way, it must be made!

I outlined the main parts of the photo with sharpie.  Then I traced the scarf part onto 14 count Aida and cross stitched the scarf.  I was going to use one of those cross stitch chart programs, but then I decided to just wing it.  Once the scarf was done, I cut it out and put some glue around the edges from the back to prevent fraying.  Then I traced the rest of the picture onto plain fabric and just used straight stitches for the outline.  Glasses are of black felt.  Tacked the glasses in place then tacked on the scarf.

I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out Smiley
